You would be surprised, I've been one to empty a clip and have had more than a couple hanging with 8-10 holes in them. That being said most every one was killed on the first shot but if they are moving I'm still shooting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sat until 7:45, still hunted through the swamp and through 2 of my neighbors. I have seen 11 deer so far with 2 small bucks. Sat for a while and going to still hunt back home on the other side of this valley. Been a good wet hunt so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Shoot young bucks to let older ones mature

The fact is a deer needs age, I have yet to see a 130" 1 1/2yr old buck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I know I don't hear the 5 shot volleys I used to hear when it was shotgun only. In my opinion rifle makes it safer. Way less shooting and most everyone has a scope on them. As I have said before the only way to make hunting NY safer is to have separate seasons for antlerless and antlered deer. That would eliminate the shooting at tails or movement, well at least for the hunters with a brain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Spent Friday-Sunday "bear hunting" I covered a ton of country trying to help a few college kids that are in the camp down the road onto some deer. We found some deer but didn't connect on a buck but I hope they had fun. All in all it was a successful season the gps says I did 86 miles and a saw a bunch of beautiful country. It's a 308 necked up to 35cal. It's a factory cartridge but can be hard to find. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a half dozen of them 270,7mm-08,35rem,358win,44mag, 45-70. The best bang for your buck in a fire arm great triggers and all shoot great the worst one I have is the 44mag and it shoots an 1 1/2" group with a few different factory loads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Diet and age are big factors in taste as well as how it was prepared and butchered. How it died also has a lot to do with flavor. Anyone who says venison is better than beef I would have to question if they have ever had good beef. I would put a steak from one of my black Angus against any venison steak. Jesus, counting my rifle I don't think I carry 11lbs of gear maybe 20 if I'm carrying my stand and 5 steps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes I have, I raise pure bred black angus. True grass fed can taste great but it depends on what grasses they are eating and how long the meat has aged. I like a pastured beef that's getting plenty of corn and grain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree there is an difference between the taste of a deer based on diet, deer I shoot around my house have a much more palatable taste than an old bark eating ADK buck. To the point that my wife won't eat adk deer. I have to laugh when I hear people say that there is no better meet than venison. I don't care what a deer is eating or how young or old it is a deer will never taste like properly fed and properly aged beef. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If a doe was equal size of a nice buck it would be an old doe most likely older than the buck so your scenario doesn't really work. I'll say this, although hunting mature bucks in the big woods is what I live for the fact is they taste like sh!t. I still eat them because I killed them but I have yet to eat one that tastes even close to a young doe. That being said I am not someone whom hunts for the meat. Although I eat every deer I kill venison doesn't hold a candle to the grass fed black Angus I raise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
