When Does Less Equal More?
Buckmaster7600 replied to wildcat junkie's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
You won't be disappointed! I just bought 2 more of the 2-7x28's for a couple of 760's I recently acquired. Are those leupold rings? -

Haha Pygmy you beat me to it the 3-9x33's are one of my favorite scopes. My only complaint on them is that the eye relief changes a bit when the power is turned up. I agree that the barrel is way to long but it looks too long to me with both scopes. That is some beautiful iron either way! Here is what a 3-9x33 looks like on a bolt carbine Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I own 1 scope that's not a leupold and I hate it. Leupold vx2's are imo the best "value" on the market.

Been out almost every day for bunnies haven't killed many but I've lost 10lbs

I did a lot of research and they have come along way, I saved about 5 oz to my other aluminum uppers. I have a bunch of plastic pistols and they hold up fine. It's not my only ar and will never be a high round count gun but for what I use it for its perfect.

New frontier.

I have built a few AR's that are NY compliant for under 600$ it is very easy to assemble parts on a AR. My favorite coyote gun I have I have is a polymer lower with a fluted lightweight barrel that I built that I use if I'm walking a lot and its under 6lbs and scary accurate.

I shoot aluminums with my recurve but that's it. Went to carbons nearly 20 years ago and don't think I'll be going back any time soon.

I agree, I as well always get involved knowing good and well that I won't change anyone's mind and that there is a very slim chance of anyone changing mine. I have killed deer with a lot of different cartridges from 223 to 450 marlin and all of them did their job if I did mine. But if I had to pick 1 you can bet it would start with 35!

When I was on the farm my 14" 22-250 contender was with me all the time. Honestly I don't know of many farmers that don't have a "tractor" rifle.

Mine was lowered into my basement before the house was there. It won't fit through any doors so they would have a hell of a time getting out with it.

. I understand your apprehension but the big difference between the striker fired handguns and a deer rifle is that a rifle I cocked there is tension holding back a firing pin, not the case on a striker gun.

I agree with the last part I think a cold wet spring hurts way more than a bad winter. Last winter was bad but I saw more birds this year than I have in a few years.

If possible you would try to close in and disrupt his aim and draw, not a good idea if you don't have one in the tube.

I love lacrosse's until it gets cold then I would wear my mickeys now I have a pair of Baffin's and there is nothing in the world like them! I have never had a boot as comfortable and you almost can't make your feet sweat and they are WARM! 3 years ago Ohio late muzzeloader was the first time I tried them a high of 6 with 20 mph wind and I sat all day and never had cold feet that was when I became a believer! -
No, I don't, I would rather BG think I'm unarmed until I need to kill him rather than be struggling to try to get my gun in action that the BG knows I have.

Not having one chambered doesn't make sense to me. Too many variables go into getting the gun into the fight! I think a big factor that hasn't been brought up yet is what is your reasoning for carrying? Is it to protect yourself, is it to stop an attack on someone else etc etc. Everyone has a different reason for me it's for me and mine. If a guy is in a mall with an AK I'm protecting my family I'm not going on the assault and trying to get him or them. That's why I have no problem carrying a 380 for self defense. Realistically If I can't smell the bad guys breath I'm not shooting him.
-
I guess I could be put in the "bow camp" but I would have no problem with that exception.

Just because I have pics of 11 different bucks on cam doesn't mean that 11 bucks live on my land. If I were to guess I would bet that half of them "live" on my land. I don't have any idea how the "pros" estimate a herd but I would be willing to bet that it's not from trail cam pics. A lot of summer scouting is where I base my numbers and I think I saw 6 different bucks regularly.

I carry a Ruger lcp and a lc9 in the the summer. The 9mm has more power but "carryabillity" goes to the 380 most of the time. During the winter when carrying is easier I carry more powerful cartridges. My recomendation would be to shoot a bunch of them in your budget and pick the one that fits you the best and that you shoot the best and don't worry about the caliber.

That was my original intent but I have gotten some good ideas too. My biggest reason for not shooting many deer on my land is that I love hunting the Adirondacks. I might have hunted on my land 5-7 times all year and I took 7 weeks off from work. I don't enjoy sitting in tree stands or blinds and and I dont still hunt my land unless we have fresh snow. As far as food wise I have a lot of standing corn that hasn't been touched apples still on the ground acorns that are still on the ground. I'm sure I could do more but I surely think the herd is very well fed. Like I said before in my area of NZ where there is not big woods it's hard to get any age on a deer 8 weeks of avoiding someone with a gun is a long time for a buck that wants to find a hot doe. I used to put a lot more time into food plots and other things but I have found that 400 acres is not enough to hold a buck during the rut. Most of the nice bucks I have killed on my land were during the first 2 weeks of bow season when they were patternable.

You guys are bringing up good points but our populations are not too high, all of my neighbors keep the populations well within check! I'm far from an expert but the last buck I shot was 4 1/2 and weighed 216 dressed but was only a 6 that might have scored 70" the biggest problem I have with our herd is 8 weeks of gun season! I let a lot of 100" bucks go to get shot on one of the neighbors.

I also like a spare everything. I carry a small folding bench made in my pocket a leather an on my belt and a folding saw in my fanny pack. This is my saw and I think I have owned over 20 in the last 10 years and these are by far the best! I haven't broke one yet but I have bought 5 just incase they stop making them. The sharpest saw I have ever seen! https://www.theprunerwarehouse.com/corona-razor-tooth-folding-saw-8-in-rs-7255.html?gclid=CPWwq57qx8oCFQsjHwodChcDmQ
