  1. I have always looked at archery season as something you earn, you have to put time in to become proficient with a vertical bow traditional or compound. That is lost when you allow Xbows in archery. I'm not against Xbows because I believe they are inevitable but I also do not go out of my way to support them. As far as youth, disabled or "elderly" I have no problem with them using them but it will be very difficult to manage. I have always said that "elderly" should be included in the youth season. What age makes you "elderly" I don't know but I have a 95 year old neighbor whom still hunts and I couldn't imagine that any hunter in the world would have a problem with him and others in his position getting "first wack" at getting their deer. 2. I have shot deer and had other deer stay around. I have never had deer smell me and stay around.
  3. Couldn't agree more, deer have no idea what the boom is. They hear them all summer and don't go nocturnal "thunder." People that walking around bumping them and spreading scent all over the woods is a different story. On my farm I walk it all the time deer become accustomed to it just like a 4 wheeler or a tractor.
  4. Done, I am very hopeful that they publish data from this survey. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I think you really hit the nail on the head. Most deer in the big woods are killed within a distance that most any gun can be effective. The most important thing is confidence in your weapon/caliber of choice. Most times in the woods you don't have time to range and get settled before taking your shot so confidence and comfort with your chosen weapon is very important in killing the deer.
  6. 10mm came out before the 40 the 40 was designed as a lighter recoiling 10mm.
  7. If you go with a 10mm glock you can get a 40sw barrel for under 100$ and shoot 40 for practice.
  8. I shoot a biscuit now. I learned the hard way how important it is to keep things simple! I had a qad drop away fail to drop away on a nice buck it wasn't actually the rests fault my serving had loosened on the release string. I now have use my drop away all year until the month or so before season then put the biscuit on for season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I have hunted Ohio and I canceled my lease this year. If I kill a 100"+ buck in the Adirondacks that is a trophy. When I hunted Ohio it was fun having 120- 140" bucks around me daily. I shot the first 140" buck I seen my first time out there and after that I never got excited because it was the norm. I have no one to impress and I know what a "big" buck is in the areas I hunt. If I catch a 30lb king salmon on Lake Ontario it is a trophy to me even tho on the west coast it would be small. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I am somewhat surprised by the support of the 41's. In my opinion there is not a better suited handgun cartridge for deer. The 41 does it all and it does it comfortably. The only reason I have not been using my 41 rem blackhawk is because I love doing something different and hunting with a Glock goes against the grain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. The reason why is very simple. A handgun that will move 180gn projectile at over 1000fps will kill all but a few animals in North America. Elmer Keith knew this along time ago. I enjoy handgun hunting for the simplicity. I like iron sights and hard cast bullets. I only have me to worry about putting the bullet where it needs to be. I don't have to worry about the bullet "performing" or my scope being fogged or my batteries being dead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Other than when I'm in The Adirondacks the only thing I carry is my Glock 20 10mm. It has brought the excitement from bow season into gun season and I really enjoy it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. My daughter started with her BB gun at 2or3 now she is 8 and has a 410 single and a pump, muzzeloader, 44mag Ruger bolt , 357 H&R single, 223 bolt and a 7mm-08 bolt. She shoots them all very well and does a great job with safety. I'm a firm believer in getting them started as early as possible and it becomes 2nd nature. The other thing I have never done is pushed her, if I'm heading out to shoot I ask. Most of the time now I have to wait until she is not home for me to get a chance to shoot but that is a great problem to have. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. When I get good at killing turkeys I only hope to be as good as this guy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I have missed 4 birds and I would say combined distance is less than 20yds. With my style of ambushing birds I often have very close shots. I thought I had it all figured out by going to a full choke but I missed a bird 15minutes into my season this year so I guess not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. FACT! I have tried them every way possible and the outcome is always the same. The only one in my house that will touch them is the dog and isn't crazy about them either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. My daughter is 8 and her favorite gun to shoot is the her front stuffer. I buy 185gn cast 45cal pistol bullets and harvester sabots some blackhorn almost no recoil and very cheap. It's nothing for her to shoot 30-40 shots in an outing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Congrats on the bird! And a double congrats on it being your first!! By the sounds of it you did a lot more to identify the bird that most others would do and I commend you for that as well. I had a "jenny" on my land for a couple years and I was hunting her because I think they are cool as heck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Slow day so far have found a couple lone hens but haven't found a gobler yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I avoid these types of "events" because there is usually a few idiots in the crowd that ruin it for everyone because their ideas are the only ones that matter. I will certainly try to log in and watch but given my experience with the governments use of technology there will be some type of glitch and it won't work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. What a gorgeous morning to be in the woods! Haven't heard a bird. It's time to get on my feet and make something happen Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I have hunted with my father and his friend whom are both way better turkey hunters than I and the 3 of us been successful on many occasions hunting as a team. We have even gotten a triple. 2 or 3 guys that know how to call can be very convincing. Setup is the most important part because you have to be able to conceal all of the bodies. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I hunt differently than most in that I don't call. I move a lot and ambush birds. For me there is no better weather than a hard steady rain. It covers movement and dampens sound. If I was going to call and sit for long periods I would most likely stay home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
