You can never stop the abuse.However you can stop the needless wounding due to lack of ability or skill. I could buy a crossbow at noon sight it in and feel 100% confident with it to go in a stand tonight. If I was to by a new compound I would not hunt with it until next deer season because I would not feel proficient with it. I will not give up my compounds until I can no longer draw one back "hell I'm shooting my wives bow this year as I have a torn rotator cuff." One can not deny the pick up and hunt capabilities of a Xbow.

I agree that an accurate shot is only part of the battle but it's a BIG part, I don't know how they are including them in the course's. Why not make a 3rd course it could be a good refresher for some!

Not to go off topic or steal the tread but if your not shooting blackhorn you are REALLY missing out. I consider one of the few "game changers" in this industry in the past 10 years.

I used to hate the ideas of XBOWS being allowed during archery seasons. After the amount of deer that I have hear of being wounded lately both on this sight and among friends with verticle bows. I feel that XBOWS could have changed this. It takes little to no practise to kill an animal with one. I think we as outdoorsman we owe it to the animal we are trying to kill to utilize the most efficient method available. I'm sure some will disagree as I would have a few months ago. But it is hard to argue that to become proficient with a verticle bow it takes shooting thousands of arrows annually, and some are not willing or able to do that. Now I know some will argue that mistakes will happen and I totally agree but I also know that the archers who shoot year round and shoot thousands of arrows a year are far less likely to wound an animal.

Yes a large muscle hit will bleed more than most othe hits. Don't know what broadheads you are using but most mechanicals will close on there way out.

If you think you hit in the guts or ass DO NOT TRACK IT! give it at least 4 hrs. Trust me you cannot jump a dead deer but a mortally wounded deer will cover a lot of ground if pushed!

Cva wolf, with a budget in mind they are the best bang for your buck! Can be had with a scope for under 300$ and around 2 without.

I was one of the ones giving you flack and I agree with you 100%. The only thing worse than tracking a poorly hit deer is having two poorly hit deer to track!

One of my neighbors and I have stands 10 feet from each other and we both usually sit them for opening morning of gun because the deer follow the hedge row when pushed off other neighbors property. For years we had stands 200yds apart but were always worried of shooting towards each other so we agreed on this set up a while back and it has worked great. He shoots the first buck he sees so it usually doesn't take long and me being right there keeps him honest and not shooting one on my side.

The tax map from the town a compass and a gps is all you need. Dont be surprised if you see land marks like "big oak with a crotch, or 3rd fence post on hill etc." as land marks.

I have been shooting my wife's bow since July after I tore my rotator cuff"doc said I wouldnt be recovered by oct so I waited." It hurts but pulling 53lbs is way more enjoyable than my bow. I'm looking foreword to my January surgery!

Not trying to be an A hole but you have missed 2 and wounded 1 in the last 24hrs the last place you need to be is in a stand.

With a one lung hit and traveling that far most of the bleeding will be internal and with no holes low in her body it won't come out. The blood you are seeing is from her nose/mouth she will keep going after "bleeding out, or in in this case" but much like an engine with no oil they will run but not far!

I would bet u hit lung! Your getting a good amount of blood from a very high would that most likely means the blood is coming from her mouth.

Was the entry on the near side or far side of spine?
