Live From The Woods 2019 Turkey Edition
Buckmaster7600 replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Turkey Hunting
Doing something I rarely do, getting in the woods before daylight. Everyday the birds have been getting in a big green field and staying all morning in the middle. This morning I’m going to be within 20yds of where they’re roosted an hr before they wake up. Here goes nothing! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

pouring but I just went for a ride around the block and found a nice Tom. I got a couple mile run to get around him and hope he keeps this heading! Late morning in rain are conditions that I’ve killed a lot of birds in! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Way different! I’ve never had a smoked wild turkey I liked but the ones that are better than others have a ton of seasoning injected in them. In my opinion wild turkeys just don’t have enough fat to be smoked but give it a whirl and see what you think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Ever smoked one before? Inject as much juice and flavors as you want into meat before smoking because they get dry quick! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The bitchiest hen I have ever saw in my life, every time I call she runs at me trying to fight. I want to move on the gobbler that gobbling his head off but she is too entertaining Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I got a 350 legend, as a tote gun wouldn’t be my first choice. I’m a 35cal nut and had to have one and it’s a neat round balistically a twin to the old 357maximum and right on the heels of a 35rem. It will be a hell of a deer cartridge and super cheap to shoot if you reload. It’s not near as perfect as it could have been because Winchester wanted to make everything a little different so you have to buy from them. It has a .355 bore instead of 357 and they didn’t use 223 brass as the parent cartridge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anyone use modified choke in a 12 gauge for turkey ?

It’s taken 10 years to learn to use the camera on an iPhone, a GoPro isn’t in my future. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Probably not, it’s a handful shooting with the tss handloads let alone shooting 1 handed while trying to video. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

And there’s 334 days between turkey seasons so that’s not a very good excuse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I would hope you were planning on shooting it before bringing it hunting with whatever choke you were going to use? To answer your question I’ve killed a bunch of turkeys with modified chokes/barrels with both 12 and 20ga. Usually max range is around 15-20yds but you’ll have to shoot it and see. Will the 2019 Season Timing Be Right?
Buckmaster7600 replied to Five Seasons's topic in Turkey Hunting
I don’t know about you but I’ve never had much problem killing birds in May, I’m sure hunting them in April would be good as well but I’ve never thought I needed April to make the hunting easier/better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Yet another reason I live in the country. My only neighbor close enough for my mower to bother has his horse pastured on my property for free so I’m sure it doesn’t bother him at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

33deg and cloudy tomorrow, was hoping for a little rain but I’ll make do. Good luck everyone, keep your head down and enjoy the scenery! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Biology speaking hens breading season and a toms breading season aren’t the same. Just because birds are strutting doesn’t mean they’re breading. Just like bucks will start chasing does making scrapes and rubs before the first doe comes into estrus. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Because I have way better things to do during the daylight hours than waste time mowing grass. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m not yet sold on the stock, it’s heavier than it needs to be and I don’t like the long reach to the safety. I have a full length standard stock on the way so we will see. Originally my plan was to put a slip on butt pad on the factory youth stock but with 2 recoil pads it gave it a very awkward spongy feel when shouldered. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Every shell I shot yesterday was over a crono and every shot was within 38fps of advertised velocity. Shotgun barrel lengths vary for balance and swing not “accuracy” or velocity. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
