I am by no means making excuses for anybody and I hope this officer recovers fully and quickly. I have read another study like the one below. Maybe it was in Outdoor Life years ago. Anyhow this should be a must read. It is very interesting material for sure and I would love to see more research done to possibly help stop this from happening. http://www.huntersafetylab.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/mistaken-for-game-hunting-accidents-a-human-factors-review1.pdf

All is quiet on the central front as well! Too quiet! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I guess I can't get the AR logic that their way is the only way so all must abide? How are you more important than the guy/gal who hunts a few days a year and is tickled pink with any deer. Yup you are a more dedicated hunter but really who cares. That person may have other things that matter more. The DEC Biologists have already stated their is no herd health benefit. As well as no majority in favor. You already have the option to not shoot a small buck. We all know there are already quite a few big bucks around just you need to work for them. It is 100% someone else killed a buck that now you can't shoot later is all it is. News alert they are not your deer. Things I would like to see is mandatory check ins. A later shorter gun season. A very quiet walk in. Taking a long time to get light this morning. Just a touch of snow left here and there. A bit of fog as well. 41 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Very true. My deer are tight to the houses and scrub. Only traveling under the stars. Eating shrubs and ornamentals...... -
You lose the complete reason hunting started, to feed us! You will continue to alienate non hunters who now support hunting for people who hunt for food. The general public does not support trophy hunting. You will continue to lose hunters. This weakens us all and possibly to the extent we are seen as not managing the population and they find other ways to do it. You lose the phases that most hunters go through were it is first about getting deer, and then eventually more of a challenge..It slays me how many supporters have shot bucks, and plenty of them, earlier in their careers that were below the minimums they ask to put on future hunters. You also possibly lower the overall quality of bucks by highgrading because AR's are the poorest form of herd management. By the way I am for mandatory check in's and no I do not know how at this moment. .

I checked the tower stand and yup opening morning had a nice doe walk by at 7:45am. We were of course 40 miles away and saw two running deer all day! pffft

I have enough respect for Gods critters to wait for an ethical shot and if not presented pass. First off, way too many things can go wrong with this shot leading to a suffering deer as well as screwing up a lot of meat. Can it kill the deer? Yup. So can't a shot between the eyes. I won't take that either. We are taught to shoot for the boiler room for a reason it has a bigger lethal target and margin for error. Like that twig you did not see and nip, your slight overpull on the trigger or your weapons moa. I finished off a doe years ago that someone shot at the ass end and was a bit low. Tore that deer open and guts hanging out. That deer had lived quite some time before it happened upon my salvation.

Running outa time gotta head to work. Could fill a basket with squirrels but not hide nor hair of a deer. Of course when I squirrel hunt here I can't find one lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Our group has taken a few over the years. As others said weights can vary a lot. Dressed weight 40-90 pounds. My nephew killed one opening day that went 86 pounds. That's bigger than FL mature deer lol. I weighed it on my scales so I'm sure of it give take a pound. I grilled some me up oh my was it ever good!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It sure was a quiet walk in! Hopefully my rifle gets noisy soon. Took yesterday off for a recharge. Have not seen a deer in days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
The deer here start to show once in a great while after spring arrives! Once the first week of gun hits it's lights out for any decent hunitng. I see few deer on stand so it is just sit forever and hope to get lucky. The one exclusion is storms, if you can play a good storm right you can see some daytime action. The majority of deer I see is while I am still hunting this time of year or pushed. Those opportunities result in fewer shots. The properties I hunt are small so still hunting is not a great option. So onto state land which has its' disadvantages already. It gets depressing for sure! I spent two hours this morning online looking at out of state late season muzzleloader hunts to possibly get a chance for the kid to get a shot at a deer this year!! lol

Just awesome!! Congratz to all of you. This is my son's first year in the deer woods at 14 and we are trying to get him his first. Well done!

11/27 Had one fresh track just before house that was not there when I went in. The son and I sat the outer hole stand tonight. Nada. My Bil was out here yesterday and said there was a gut pile out across from that stand from opening weekend. Someone from the other side musta got one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks Zem! A bit of an update as I sit in stand with nothing going on lol. Got out a few times behind the house during the week. Wednesday we hit end of legal and took to steps and one was coming over ridge right at us. If we had got up in tower woulda had a shot in light. We were late so chose not to. Turkey day we slept in. We got out after dinner and we're late because the boy could not miss pie! That put us back 45 min. When we came over the crest to tower a deer was right beside it and busted us. The next morning sat for 3 hours. He got cold so he went to house. I went to walk to far line to check tracks. I go 200 yards and walk into two bedded. I coulda shot the one at 80 but small. I think the doe and button again. Sat in State in Tully did 5 miles+ no sighting. Home for last watch nothing. This morn the youngster wouldn't get outa warm bed so I'm out in the far stand out back. There are tracks from night every day no day movement. Quite a few shots off in distance but nothing real close. I miss bow season lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Snow is so awesome for spotting deer. But when you can see a mile all around you and there's no deer. Well now there's no deer within a mile of me[emoji45] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
