I don't know a lot about crossbows but I assume the reason they make compound crossbows is because they can make them a lot more narrow and still shoot a fast FPS.

I don't do it. I think it is a good idea but I lease land with a group of guys. We post it well etc but none of us live there. I am 100% positive that at the very least there are people 4 wheeling on the property when we are not there and probably trespassing during hunting season. I don't want to leave a marked path to my treestands and trail camera's making them an easy mark to be swiped by trespassers.

Wife's co-worker fell out of a tree yesterday setting up a stand
ApexerER replied to Core's topic in General Hunting
I am guilty of not always wearing a harness. It depends on the stand for me which I guess is stupid. When i sit in my Double stand alone with a platform that goes all the way back to the tree I usually don't wear my harness. If i sit in a stand that is just a small seat and platform then i do...When we set up a ladder stand we do it with three guys. We attach a rope to each side of the top of the stand and one guys stands pulling the ropes holding the stand against the tree. Then one guy on the ladder and one guy climbs. I put 5 ratchet straps on my ladder stand I just put up and my buddies were making fun of me. I said I want to know that if my ladder is ripped off for some reason I will be sitting here like it is a hang on.... -
Well I ended up ordering it from Cabela's. A friend gave me a $20 off coupon and I remembered I had a $100 gift card so it only cost me a little less than $150 out of pocket. I am still not 100% sold on this thing but I can live with a $150 mistake if it turns out to be one. I will post my honest review for those interested and update thru out the season...

I am not even sure why I am posting this because I am expecting a lot of criticism along with the post that it is snake oil, just hunt the wind, I am not a woodsman etc. I have been intrigued about it for several years now. I have read everything I can find on it and the overwhelming majority of the people that own it swears it works. When it was $500, I wouldn't spend the $$...at $400 still wasn't able to make myself commit. Cabela's has it onsale for $299 so I called Field and Stream and they said they will match the price. I figured what the heck. I am going to run and pick it up on lunch tomorrow. I figured if someone told me my Car, Boat, Snowmobile, 4 wheeler would be better/Faster for $300 I would spend it in a nano second so why not spend $300 and see if my hunting experience is better....

My wife purchased that crossbow for me for Christmas last year. I haven't hunted with it yet but I have shot it and I like it. Hopefully I won't be wishing I spent more money on one in the future but as of now I am happy with it. Good luck with it....

When I started hunting with my dad, where we hunted was shotgun only. My Dad purchased a Remington 870 12GA for me with a smooth slug barrel and a bird barrel. I don't want to sound like I wasn't thankful for that shotgun but I always hated it. I still do....It fit me terrible and never felt natural in my hands at all. I can't tell you the last time it was out of my gun cabinet. When it changed to rifle my father gave me his old Remington 600 bolt action .308. I really liked that gun, it was very accurate and looked like it was brand new since my Dad never got to hunt with it since it was shotgun only. I hunted with that rifle for several years. Everytime I went into a gun shop I would handle the Browning BAR and I loved that rifle. Just something about the weight, balance and the way it felt when I shouldered it...I felt like it fit me like a glove. I never felt like I would have the extra $$ to spend on a $1000 rifle though. Well one day a a couple of years ago a buddy of mine and I were at Cabela's in PA and they had a beautiful BAR there with a wood stock in .308. The exact gun I wanted. The one I was told would take my local gun store at least 6 months to get if I were to order it. I purchased that gun and that is what I always carry now. I love the gun and the way it feels but it isn't as accurate as my 45-50 year old Remington 600. That is a little disappointing to me but I still love it.

I googled it after I asked what it was. Pretty cool product but not what I am looking to do....

What is phone skope?
-
Core, I appreciate you taking the time to post those links. I had looked at those but they seem to only be for the bow. I would like something I can use on the crossbow and rifle as well. I started looking at bike/motorcycle mounts. I can't tell without ordering one if I could mount one to my stabilizer and also to my scope on the crossbow and rifle. They look a lot more sturdy. I was thinking at the worst I could mount it to the shooting rail on my tree stand and have nice steady video off of that but I am sure if I do that the deer will start coming in from behind me. None of them cost very much so I will probably just make a decision and order one and see if I can make it work.

I agree with you, I don't want to post on youtube. Maybe I would post it here if I wound up with really cool footage. Mostly I just think I would be really cool to have. I have lots of pics and videos on my phone of deer from the stand but always after I decided I wasn' t going to shoot. I don't have any pics or video of deer I have harvested and I think that would be awesome to have. Do you have a link of a good one that has a good review. The only one I saw was a bow mount only that had very good reviews, but I would like to be able to use it for everything.

I have always wanted to film my hunts but have never had the equipment to do so. My new phone has an 8x zoom and shoots video in HD so I am thinking it might work well. I have been looking at phone mounts but most of them have pretty poor reviews. Anyone using one that they really like?

So sorry for your loss, that's awful. Prayers to you and your family!

I don't ever remember shark week being on in the winter. I have been watching it for as long as I remember. When I was a kid it was on like the last week of August. I was always torn between looking forward to shark week and knowing that when it came summer was over and it was basically back to school.

Looking for a 4x4 four wheeler
ApexerER replied to Rockspek's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
I agree with Craigslist. You have to troll it though when you are looking for something and pounce when you think you might be interested in it. I have gotten several things I thought were a steal. I purchased an 07 Kawi Brute Force 750 at least 4 years ago maybe more for a little over 2k. It was a little banged up (broken plastic and headlight) but I didn't care at all. It ran great and still does. (and looks worse than it did when I got it) If you use a 4 wheeler it is impossible to keep it looking perfect anyways. I wouldn't want something so nice I was worried about running it through the woods, over stumps and through the mud. I guess what I am saying is...look for something that runs good and don't care what it looks like. Broken plastic on a 4wheeler that is used is a given.... -
Trail cam tips.... Help me out.
ApexerER replied to zeus1gdsm's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
Like others have said, I wouldn't worry about the trail cam. I have two trail cams and they are the cheapest ones I could find. One is a Moultrie, I think the other is wild game innovations but I am not positive. Both have been out in the rain, snow, heat and cold and I haven't had a problem with either, other than someone stealing my SD card. Probably because the were trespassing. -
Damn..I hung him crooked

Got my first ever wall hanger back from the taxi. Super excited to have him.

Why do you find turkey more exciting or as exciting than deer hunting?
ApexerER replied to Bowguy 1's topic in Turkey Hunting
Thinking about it after I already posted in the other thread. I think the reason why Turkeys don't excite me that much is because I never heard about it when I was a child. My father and grandfather would go to deer camp and I would beg to go. ( I got too a few times before I was old enough) I couldn't wait to hear their stories of what they saw. Making magnificent picture in my head as my Father or Grandfather told a story about seeing/getting deer. It made me passionate about deer hunting before I could even hold up a gun. I never got that with turkeys. There just weren't any around back then and nobody at camp hunted them so they never became a passion for me. -
I have tried it a few times with a buddy of mine. I did have a gobbler come in one time. I didn't get that feeling I get when I see a deer. (you know the feeling) Getting up at 4am to get eaten by bugs when there are so many other things to get done this time of year and not get a huge thrill out of it when I do actually see one. I guess it just isn't for me.

Def let me know. My Grandmother just sold her house in Charlton. Big gray one right next to the old town hall. Sad for me to see it leave the family....I love Charlton...

People can be d*cks.....especially on the internet. What I don't understand is, how can you let some idiot, sitting behind a keyboard that you have never met dictate how you feel. I enjoy coming on here, reading everyones posts, seeing the pictures hearing the stories, getting comments on my posts and advice etc. Someone could straight up call me an a**hole on here and isn't going to make any difference to me at all. Why let it bother you? I don't get it.....I can see a family member, neighbor, coworker etc getting under your skin for sure...Letting a person bother you on the internet, I will never understand.....

Thank you for the replies guys....I think I am going to give it a shot...can't hurt...
