My wifes Grandmother (now deceased) grew up on a farm and was a country girl. She lived out in the woods with a powerline running behind her house maybe 150 yds. About 10 years ago she would swear up and down every couple of weeks that she saw a huge cat. She had two very large dogs, one was a German Shepard and the other was some sort of mix but was just as big and she was always nervous to let them out. That went on for a whole summer and then I never heard about it again. I was always looking out the back when I was there hoping to catch a glimpse of what she was seeing but I never did....I forgot all about it until I read this post....She would have known the difference between a bob cat and a large cat.....

I haven't ridden my bike in.....geez its got to be going on 5 years....maybe more....I got in an accident, totaled the bike and purchased it back from the insurance company. Spent about 6-8 months making it perfect again and after wrecking it never felt comfortable riding it. As soon as my daughter started asking if she could ride with me I stopped riding it all together. I took her for a ride around the neighborhood a few times and she loved it. I could never forgive myself if I took her out and something happened so I stopped riding it all together. Now it sits in the corner of the garage. My wife asks why the heck I still pay insurance and register it every year. I never really have a good answer for that but I always do.....

I am sure I wouldn't get the "come on Dad" if my daughter was able to wear Pink instead of the huge orange vest I put on her that is 3x the size she needs.....along with my orange hat and gloves.....she likes to wear the camo and she loves painting my face in the stand....

I would love one of those some day but it is pretty low on the priority list for me.....I live just outside Saratoga so we rarely lose power for more than an hour or two.....I rarely fish the generator out of the shed, actually can't remember the last time I used it.....I used to go grab it when the power went out and seemed by the time I get it hooked up and started the power is back on...now I just wait....It would sure be nice to have an automatic standby by like I said.....low priority for me at this point...

I wouldn't purchase a used scope off Ebay but I will be very surprised if a forum member sells something to another forum member (especially one like Pygmy who's name I see all the time) that doesn't function...And even if I do get it and it doesn't function I will assume it did when it was removed from his rifle how every long ago that was and he wasn't aware of it.....

10-Year Vegetarian Here That Now Eats Meat...
ApexerER replied to Heraclitus's topic in Introductions
Sorry about you Dad....Thankfully mine is still living but it will be tough when he goes. I lean on him for all my advice. (I wish I did that when I was younger) Did you enjoy being a vegetarian or do you now feel like you were missing out? I don't take care of my body anywhere near as well as I should....I know this but can't seem to make any changes. I can't think of anything better for my mind mentally though than sitting in the woods before first light and watching the woods wake up, or watching the sunset while you are out on the lake fishing....never tried yoga but I can't imagine it is better than those two things.... -
Purchased a scope from Pygmy.....will see how it works..... Thanks Pygmy

My old Bushnell that if I remember right I paid $39.00 for about 20 years ago has finally crapped out. I have had it mounted on my Ruger 10/22 for at least 20 years and was always very happy with it for what it was. I use my .22 mostly for plinking. I used to hunt squirrels with it many years ago and might again if I ever find the time. Anyway the scope has lost focus so it needs to go. Is there any cheap scopes that people are very happy with? and by cheap I mean $100, preferably less......I was very happy with the Bushnell for what it was....

10-Year Vegetarian Here That Now Eats Meat...
ApexerER replied to Heraclitus's topic in Introductions
Welcome to the forum...If you get in the mood for typing I wouldn't mind hearing the story of becoming a vegetarian and what lead you away from it along with wanting to learn how to hunt. Has to be interesting... -
He did say it depends on the tannery so that makes sense. I have never had any work done by him but he came highly recommended by the butcher that does my deer. He said he doesn't take new clients the butcher said he would get me in. When I was there he asked how many deer I had done from him in the past. I said none and he had a puzzled look on his face. That right there could have put me down farther on the list....

I have never had a deer (or anything else) done before. This year I finally got a deer that I had to get mounted. I was aware that it took a long time. I got my deer on 11/21 and it was at the taxi on 11/22. When I asked how long it would take he said quite a while and he would call me. What in the process takes so long? (I am not complaining, just curious) It sounds like several of you guys get your deer back 9 months to a year later. I am chomping at the bit to see my deer again...Any idea when I can expect a call? April? June? Next October? I don't want to call and bother the gentleman that is doing it...Just excited I guess....

I couldn't find a shed if my life depended on it....
ApexerER replied to ApexerER's topic in Deer Hunting
I don't disagree with this thought but the snow just melted this week enough that you can no longer see foot prints and deer tracks. My daughter and I are the only footprints off the trail I have seen in all our trampsing around. So while I would say someone would probably pick up a shed if it was left in the middle of a trail, but I haven't seen any evidence of people walking off the trail in this park ever.... -
So the last couple of years I have stepped up my shed hunting. My hunting property is 45 min from my house so I have taken to the nature preserve about 5 min away. Every day my daughter and I along with my Golden (Milo) have been walking all over this nature preserve. Now people walk the trails but I have never seen anyone walk off the trail while i am there. My daughter and i have found numerous trails, beds, poop, rubs etc. I feel like i have nailed down pretty well where the deer are traveling (away from the people) and we have walked and grid searched pretty large area's of the preserve off the trails where it is my belief that nobody goes. There are never any footprints when there is snow off the trails. I can't imagine what i am doing wrong. Now my daughter is 11 so she probably isn't looking as hard as i am when we are searching and i am enjoying every minute in the woods with her pointing out sign etc but man. I am on a mission now to find a shed....for now i am hoping it is just a bit to early.....

Hillary's server and files
ApexerER replied to fasteddie's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I don't get why that is a joke to some people....If she becomes President and low and behold, Putin or just about anybody else has all the information on her server and blackmails her....Imagine what will happen to this country. I don't understand why people don't see this as a serious matter.... -
I know a lot of you guys don't like AR's for hunting but I really wish I could get an AR 10 for deer. I should have purchased one a long time ago but never had the $$ to spend. I am so worried with my BAR in the woods. It bouncing off the tree stand ladder while I am pulling it up etc. It would be so nice to have a woods gun that I loved that I didn't care if it hit the tree stand ladder or got layed on the ground or slid in the back of my truck....

When Anti-Gun Isn't 100% Anti-Gun
ApexerER replied to DirtTime's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I agree, rational is out the window....Scary times....my daughter is 11 and I have a couple of younger nephews. The world they grow up in is going to be a lot different and from what I am seeing...it won't be better... -
When Anti-Gun Isn't 100% Anti-Gun
ApexerER replied to DirtTime's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I understand it can happen (the thought scares the poop out of me) but that is how I start every gun control argument....Quite frankly if we keep going in the direction we are going, I wouldn't be surprised if it is repealed in my lifetime....It is already treaded on pretty directly....With Scalia no longer on the supreme court....it may get treaded on even worse... -
That is awesome and I love seeing the older generation with passionate hobbies. I wish my father would get into something....anything quite frankly. He gets up at noon, reads the paper till 3....sits on the porch with the dogs and throws the a ball for them....Then its dinner and TV till bed everyday.....It kills me to watch and I get on him about it....He seems happy though so who am I to judge....

When Anti-Gun Isn't 100% Anti-Gun
ApexerER replied to DirtTime's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I get so wound up talking gun control. Now I don't really have any conversations with people that outright want guns taken away but more with people that don't understand. The first thing I tell them is it doesn't matter what they think because we are a republic and not a democracy. So if 99% of the people wanted guns eliminated it can't happen because the 2nd amendment protects our rights to keep and bear arms. To me it can't be stated any more clearly then "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". Most of the time they say well people should have background checks. And I say, I agree, and you can't purchase a gun without a background check unless you purchase from a criminal. Most of the time they don't know this because it is pounded into their head that anyone can just go purchase a gun. I let them know that isn't the case and that the government wants to create a data base of gun owners.....Why would they want to do that? I just had this conversation with my best friends dad and it was pretty heated. He said well if we can save just one childs life...I said you got that quote from our douch president and his oh so passionate speech on gun control where he had to wipe the tears....I said why doesn't he have that same passion with say illegals....You know if we rounded them all up we would save a childs life or two....Why doesn't he feel that way about terrorists? You know if we went after them, kept surveys on them, didn't let them in our country we would save a childs life....ask yourself why guns....why not the bad guys. Then I remind them that I walk around in the woods with 20 guys all with loaded firearms...Nobody gets shot...I don't even think about it...To me it is such common sense, when someone else doesn't see it that I way I get all fired up....I really get mad when someone says they see the need for the safe act. I break out my Ruger 10/22 that is now unthankfully back to its stock form. I then grab my other stock that used to be on it and ask them why they are safer because I don't have this stock on my gun. Its the same freaking firearm...I tell them people that don't know anything about guns shouldn't be making up gun laws.....Most of the time I think they see my point... -
I took the survey. So after reading your statement I assume this is something you made up yourself? Thank you, hopefully you will get it into the right hands to be read.

For a long time it seemed like I would see an EOC officer at least once during the hunting season. They were always very nice and respectful. Never did they come onto the lease and interrupt our hunt. They always knew where we would all meet in a field for lunch or after the day and they would stop in, check our license, ask what we were seeing etc. Haven't seen them in a few years. I assume after a few years of checking on us they decided we were ok and moved on to more problem places.
