NY DEC Finalizes Rule Changes for CrossBow Hunting
stoneam2006 replied to burmjohn's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
Idk WNY the local shop down here has some complete parker xbow set ups for 425 bolts and all....seems like a quality xbow tho I haven't had the chance to get down there and shoot it yet. But to get a parker vertical bow is 700 plus. -
O hunt both every year sence I started as has my oldman....both our biggest bucks came off of public land as has the majority of the deer we see. Private land has a big disadvantage to public and it's the lack of pressure it gets. More pressure causes the deer to move more witch IMO means you should see more. Doesn't mean you will get a shot tho

NY DEC Finalizes Rule Changes for CrossBow Hunting
stoneam2006 replied to burmjohn's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
IMO archery season will still be quiet compared to gun season. As to take a moving animal with a arrow would take a very very lucky shot. So drives and group hunters will not be the way majority hunt. My thing with xbows is that they are cheaper not everyone can drop 500 or better to get a quality vertical bow set up. A good xbow is half that or better. I'm all for xbows and some of the naysayers should at least give it a chance again I'm sure a lot of guys against rifle hunting now use a rifle also. -
Not bad for a budget rifle

Never shot a deer with it but I like the fusions for when I go bear hunting up north....again never actually seen it in flesh just know they seem to shoot the best...all grains seem to be about the same -

I have savage axis 270 syn camp stock...love it shoots great and I don't know if you can beat for price -
As I am a walker if I bump into someone sitting I will make an effort to swing far enough out around to potentially kick something from in between us toward them....I've had it happen several times and even had guys leave thank you notes on my truck. One guy few yrs ago shot a nice 8 pt on state land I jumped toward him outta some pines....actually talked to that guy literally walked in ontop of him

Damn gonna have to look them up...wonder if any local shop has one to shoot?
-
What's the budget? I've seen some Parkers at local gun shop for around 4....seems decent I'm actually looking for a good cheap one to...be a good thread to watch

I live in olean right down road couple cousins have gone and are doing good with there education. ..and grandmother retired from there some years ago

Buddy had to do it filled his loader bucket with ice water and dumped over his and wife's head

When i hunt the adk it's nothing to put over 5 miles on easy....the drag out would suck but be worth it....I've hunted smaller parcels locally and I'll go as far as i can basic ly get away from everyone else....i drug my deer for 2 hours last year....was in quite aways.....look at topo and sat maps they are very helpful on unfamiliar lands
-
I personally don't scout the state land much bc of time but when I'm in there I'm always looking for scat rubs and food....look at topo maps and sat maps online to that helps a lot to show clearings and possible bedding areas deep in the woods.... that most average guys won't know about
-
Good advise....i hunt lots of state land don't be afraid to go deep off the beaten trail....I'm not huge on going in before dark just because I don't know all the guys in there and want thwm to see me....plus if I jump one I wanna be able to shoot if it stops....i generally walk in at first light get off trail a bit and then walk deeper and deeper very very slowly till I find where I wanna be...but I never end up sitting to long....
-
Yea ik there's a few down here with openings I've been trying to get my cousin to take one....i did see some on the weekends too if that would make it easier also... little valley Salamanca olean portville were all areas I was looking....good luck finding something that will work
-

Lol ....yea my old man use to get pretty mad about it when I was a kid....now I just sit on my pack so I never lose it.
-
O always sit on a log to try and get off the ground so I'm comfortable. ..and as said above those cheap hot seats work good....but I've lost many of them walking
-
O by the way there's 3 bear in the first pic If you can see them....mom and 3 cubs walked by 2 seasons ago....was pretty cool
