Freeze proof dirt for trapping
stoneam2006 replied to Water Rat's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
Yea peat moss will freeze if gets wet but it wicks moisture pretty well. I just couldn't get over the amt of weight the dirt was to carry with me. Now I carry peat moss and a gallon jug of rock salt which helps too. Another thing I was doing with the trap beds last year was digging a "ditch" under pan so water could escape and not freeze from bottom up. I had 1 peat set freeze last year and that was only because the whole field was under water lol. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk -

I tried wax dirt and peat moss for first time last year...will never do wax dirt again it's way to inconvienent. Peat moss weights next to nothing and is 100 percent freeze proof. Peat moss for me it is... Awesome on the wax dirt looks like it came out sweet. Some guys use a cement mixer and torch to heat it while mixing works good too. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk -
I sit all day anytime I can. Doesn't matter to me if October first or last day of late season. If I don't have anything going on nothing beats sitting in the tree Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

I am by no means a elite archery hunter and love my xbow rifles muzzleloaders and anything else they will allow me to hunt with but 30 yards isn't giving the new gear enough credit. I personally think a competent compound shooter will out shoot a xbow day after day. Also think most new gear has the ability to out shoot the shooter shooting it. I am extremely comfortable to 40 and many guys are way past me. Out west many guys don't get many shots less then that. Not trying to start an argument here just staying personal beliefs Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

Pigeon hill wilderness area and am lucky to see 1 guy a year normally waking in or out. Have only ever had one guy walk in on me while sitting. Even tho I have been unsuccessful hunting up there it is my favorite place to be. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

For me it was really just a more time in the woods excuse. But then I realized the best hunting is last 2 weeks of Oct to the first 2 of November...the leaves the smell the sounds the cool mornings with perfect daytime temps....and then there's the non skittish deer as mentioned above. Some areas are worse than others for me. O yea and the rut. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

Hope you heal fast. It's a shame some people don't know how to keep there pets under control. Unfortunate for the dog that the owner is irresponsible Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
