He and his buddies can turn your yard into a cultivated, seed-ready food plot over night if they feel like it. They're also pretty good at breaking up parties when you least expect it if it you have a clueless guest who says, "Heeere kitty, kitty, kitty!" ;-]

Downy woodpeckers at hummingbird feeder
philoshop replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
I'm sure the drought this year has something to do with it. My folks have a bunch of of hummer-feeders that are regularly being raided by various birds, squirrels, and even deer! My Mom's b-day is next weekend, and I bought her a nice bird bath for their yard. -
Searching for dirt on Trump
philoshop replied to fasteddie's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Obama: "Trump doesn't fundamentally understand the intricacies of foreign policy and negotiation..." I think Trump understands completely that U.S. foreign policy shouldn't be run like Chicago politics. Next question. -
I suppose this could be taken as a joke, but when the winds/thermals start to swirl around while I'm in an otherwise good spot I generally just shift my attention and focus upwind to accommodate the change.

Wise words on Trump
philoshop replied to Uptown Redneck's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Perhaps 'wise' in the collectivist mindset. The anti-globalist individualists among us consider those words extremely foolish. -
Keep in mind that everything changes in October and early November. Wind patterns, thermals, deer movement, preferred foods, water sources, bedding locations... And they can change almost over night.

I didn't realize you had info from the previous owner. That's a BIG deal, and you should absolutely use it. You might consider putting some flagging material like pieces of surveyor's tape or VHS tape on a stake somewhere in view of your cam shots as we get close to the season. Set them far enough away to not trigger the cam, but still be visible in the photo. Knowing the wind direction at the precise time a deer triggers the cam from a specific direction is valuable.

I'll give you another line of thought on this. Since you're new to the property, you really don't know for sure yet where the deer will be coming from or where they'll be going to once the season rolls around. In the places I hunt the travel routes are well defined, but the directions of travel change dramatically depending on the time of year, especially during daylight.

Trump campaign in turmoil
philoshop replied to diplomat019's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
You're beginning to show your true colors. -
The modern harvesters/combines don't leave much in the field as far as corn and soybeans. Using computer-controlled planting and harvesting and GPS/SatNav technology there's usually more left on the ground around the haulers being filled than there is in the fields. OTOH, if you know where the haulers are stopping on their routes through the fields during harvest, that's probably where the deer will be. Water is a huge issue this year as well. A lot of ponds, small streams, drainage ditches, and swamps are absolutely bone dry. Finding a spring-fed water source is going to be critical this season. JMHO

Trump campaign in turmoil
philoshop replied to diplomat019's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
You've been drinking way too much MSM Kool-Ade, my friend, if you believe any of this. It's nothing more than today's anti-Trump talking points and propaganda. -
It's called "paying it forward". It's a good thing, and it keeps the traditions going.

Monster Buck- Best Wildlife Pic I Ever Took
philoshop replied to blackradio's topic in Hunting Related Pictures
Great shot!! The big boys survive by 'hiding in plain sight'. Two months from now you'd have to literally step on him to make him poke his head out for a photo. -
If people aren't convinced that they're being oppressed by someone, the socialist narrative doesn't work. This is why we see the onslaught of SJW activism. It's the life-blood of the leftist agenda, and they can't survive without it. It's the 'grievance' industry. Our current POTUS was considered a 'community organizer' in Chicago before entering DC politics. He was, and still is, in fact, a resentment organizer. He's spent the last 7 1/2 years making sure that the people of this country are in opposition to one another, and he's been very successful at it. The blatant lack of patriotism at the convention is entirely intentional. (I have chicken breasts on the grill, I'll be back)

Not a sports fan, but that's probably a memory you two will share for many years. Congratulations!

Bernie's Message
philoshop replied to fasteddie's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Bernie's speech at the D-Con was oddly similar to Comey's presser and testimony regarding the e-mails a few weeks ago. Hmm. -
