First time I ever heard

It's the same rejection of communism that's taken place over the last 100 years. Rulers like it, citizens don't. -

The entire EU thing is even more screwed up than US politics. It's also more blatant, but the citizens are generally more cowed, (they are all basically 'Socialist' States) so it's become a matter of sheer propaganda and herding sheep. Thankfully some of the 'sheep' are fighting back. I have no familial ties to Great Britain whatsoever, and no particular favoritism one way or the other, but I've been watching the Brexit discussion closely because it is important on a global scale. The European Union is a global Communist construct which I adamantly oppose. I'll support anyone who stands against it. The TPP and TTIP are US buy-ins for that global poker game. I say. f*** them too. -

The Obama administration's 'political correctness' put those guns in the hands of the Orlando shooter, and facilitated the eventual carnage. The FBI was twice told to stand down from it's investigations. The laws that could have stopped the guy from purchasing guns were/are already in place, and they were ignored. The fact is, quite simply, the leftists have no desire to stop the carnage. They only want to control it to suit their ends. -

The NRA's position on arming terrorists

It's all about who gets to define the phrase 'common sense'. -

Therein lies the slippery slope, Doc. The entire issue is dependent on some definition of: assault weapon, common sense, greater good, personal liberty, constitutional authority, etc. Who exactly is to do the defining? -

You don't need a gun

I'm starting to think about a same-caliber rifle-pistol combination. Toss me some ideas for a handy and durable rifle in .44 mag. -
If this is someone's vision of 'the new American man' we have a serious problem. On the other hand, I've been laughing hysterically about it all day in between muttering obscenities. A prescription for 'growaset' and a few weeks in 'man-camp' are in order.

Dip sticks have a very useful purpose. Please don't malign dip sticks like that.

I got a good laugh out of this: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2016/06/a_seriously_sissified_shooting_story.html

The very concept of personal happiness is contrary to the teachings of Islam. Subservience and personal misery are the cornerstones of the entire ideology. In an odd sense, the 'paradise' they seek to enter by blowing the hell outta innocent people is readily available in Las Vegas, and death is not a prerequisite. That's what they're angry about: that people can be free and happy without having to die for it.

Expressing need for garage/man-space in 3-2-1... Joking! Congratulations, and I wish you all the best!

I'd be willing to wager this guy wasn't here looking for legal citizenship, or even an under-the-table job. He was likely here, in our neighborhood, to find a 'soft' target for his next crime(s). "Police officers in Leroy, New York, stopped Juan Rivas-Silva, 42, for a traffic violation on Monday, June 6. He presented a passport and an expired driver’s license... [snip] The police officers called for Border Patrol agents to come to the scene and review the status of the foreign national. Agents conducted a background investigation from the scene and determined that Rivas-Silva, a Mexican citizen, had illegally re-entered the U.S. after having been previously deported. He was arrested and taken to the Border Patrol station for processing. A further search into the illegal alien’s background revealed the man had a violent criminal history. His crimes, including felonies, were listed as burglary, domestic violence, assault and battery, and driving under the influence. Rivas-Silva admitted he illegally entered the U.S. in 1998 through California." http://www.breitbart.com/texas/2016/06/10/previously-deported-illegal-alien-arrested-re-entering-u-s-new-york/ ETA: Kudos to the Leroy police and the local Border Patrol. Nicely done folks.

Sorry to hear it Growalot. I wish you all the best. Sincerely! I didn't want to "like" the post, but it's an important point for many of us. I hate to say it, but at some some point we all have to slow down a bit because physical limitations change and pure determination won't alter that fact. It sucks in the worst way, I know, but "it is what it is".

Congratulations on winning the prize! Others with much more experience will provide details, but you can generally expect some big fish and some excitement.

'Dilbert' cartoonist Scott Adams has laid out a very compelling, although entirely satirical, argument. Think carefully about what he's saying here. http://blog.dilbert.com/post/145456082991/my-endorsement-for-president-of-the-united-states
