  1. I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was.
  2. Holy crap, I hate the concept of safe spaces! Get it?????
  3. I've seen many of those studies too, Doc. Almost all of them involve people who have never really practiced and developed the required skill. It's not that difficult to train yourself to accurately assess measurements, but it does require continuous practice/affirmation. Before rangefinders became available and relatively inexpensive I spent a lot of time walking the woods shooting judo points at leaves, twigs, pinecones, etc. I didn't care about the actual distance, only that I was able to hit the target consistently with the arrow. It was short-range stuff, but I got to be pretty good at it. Transitioning to longer-range varmint shooting was a matter of studying misses and adjusting accordingly. And thinking, "How many foot-ball fields, or fifty-yard shooting ranges". It's a learn-able discipline. A gunsmith friend of mine can immediately tell you whether a piece of metal, or a gap, is 0.004" or 0.005". And my land surveyor, 'chuck-hunting friend is able to immediately see the difference between 275 yards and 300 yards without even thinking about it. It's a skill.
  4. A crossbow is an ancient archery implement. As long as it doesn't go bang and scare the he!! outta everything around, I don't see why it shouldn't be included in the archery season.
  5. budsgunshop.com has the promag for $15.70.
  6. It's a good learning tool while walking around. Stop, take a guess, verify with the rangefinder. It's a skill-builder, and it's amazing how quickly someone can learn to accurately judge short distances if they work at it.. Establishing known distances, pre-season, from a stand to certain landmarks is very helpful if you keep notes and remember the ranges and landmarks. The only living critters I've ever lasered are woodchucks out beyond 300 yards or so.
  7. Hillary railed yesterday that without an(other) Obama appointment to the SC that Progressivism in the US would be set back. She said it like that would be a bad thing. WTF.
  8. Climate catastrophe predictors have upped their game.
  9. Very cool! Not to rain doom on your ingenuity here, but be very careful with certain woods as food prep surfaces. Walnut and white oak contain a lot of tannic acid. Not good for food prep. Red oak is very porous and extremely difficult to clean. Also not good for food prep. There's a good reason why butcher blocks and cutting boards are usually made of hard maple. Just tryin' to keep you safe my friend. And BTW, good old-fashioned mineral oil is the best way to treat any wood that comes into contact with food; blocks, boards, or knife handles.
  10. I'm hoping for full inclusion of crossbows during archery season. I can't physically draw a bow any more, and I miss being in the woods with a weapon during that magical time of year.
  11. It's about removing officers and senior NCO's from the command structure who won't blindly obey orders. Even stupid and unconstitutional orders. The Obama administration has been very effective at dismantling the US military in this regard.
  12. Happy Easter everyone! Big family feast at the folks' house 'cause it's also my bday. Lasagna, beer, and probably bocce!
  13. Welcome aboard! I spent a year in LA (1979) shuttling between Slidell and NO. I didn't do any hunting outside the French Quarter though. ;-] Had a lot of fun just the same.
  14. Bill Whittle definitely has a knack for getting to the heart of an issue.
  15. Bill Whittle recently called Air Force 1 "the world's most expensive golf cart".
  16. When you transition from the thinking that everyone is a friend, to thinking that everyone should be excused for their behavior because we would like them to be a friend, there's a problem. How many times do you need to be punched in the nose?
  17. I admire your passion Mr. Rossi, but I won't apologize for the fact that my passion is more national and global. I work damned hard to make people aware of issues at all levels, and to support politicians who I think 'get it'. . Hunting website or not, my lack of enthusiasm for dove hunting should not be equated with political indifference.
  18. Hmmm. From someone who managed to avoid background checks before becoming president...
  19. "Fear mongering hate filled bigots". PC bullsh** buddy. Open your eyes. "Defend all amendments to the Constitution". It's called being a Patriot. I agree that it's not really about religion, but that's only because I agree completely with Geert Wilders' assessment of Islam: "Islam, rather than a Religion, is primarily a totalitarian political ideology aiming for world domination." A Muslim adheres to Islam. The Islamic text, the Kuran, is the only widely accepted 'religious' text on this planet that explicitly instructs it's adherents to kill all non-believers, and encourages lying and other duplicitous action in order to infiltrate and achieve that goal. This makes those adherents extremely dangerous to American values and the American way of life. We tend to be an accepting group of people. Oftentimes stupidly so. The open-borders policy of the professional politicians and the establishment elites around the world meshes quite well with the 'domination' theme of Islam because of their globalist, New World Order aspirations. "Succumb to Dominion" is the mantra. "Let the Islamofascists do the initial heavy-lifting" has been the strategy. It's been working, and it sucks for Western civilization. But don't think for a moment that Muslims won't be crushed underfoot alongside Christians in the end. Fortunately, many free Western citizens are becoming aware of this, and are proactively working to stop it. Trump is a serious player in the US, Merkel will be gone from Germany, Brexit will happen, Le Pen is gaining support in France, Wilders is coming on in Holland... Belo, you're far too young to have your head that firmly buried in the sand. Kasich is a good man with many honorable qualities and I admire him, but he's been swallowed by the system that has pushed everything to the left of center over the years. Go along to get along is not going to help save the people who desire freedom.
