  1. Firewood is year 'round. It's either cutting/splitting season, or it's burning season. Hunting just happens to conveniently fall in between the peaks.
  2. March 25th is the registration/affiliation deadline! April 19th is the NY primary! The only excuse for not voting, is not caring.
  3. Knowledge of firearms. I'm not going to edit the post.
  4. This brings up an interesting discussion: I have boxes of metal parts that I've accumulated over the last forty years that could be easily turned into guns. I also have the know-how and the tools to do so. A good friend of mine was a US military armorer in the late 60's and 70's and has a full gunsmithing shop in his garage. Short of drilling a rifled barrel, there is nothing gun-related he can't do, or a part he can't make. He still tinkers with guns, but he spends most of his time voluntarily working with mentally retarded children. When will the gun discussion in NYS turn from the guns themselves, and various 'parts' of guns, to the 'knowledge' of guns? If the aim is to eliminate guns entirely, and I'm certain that is in fact the aim, will they come after people with knowledge of guns? Will WildcatJunkie be considered a threat because of his knowledge, regardless of political position? Serious question.
  5. My target gun has to be assembled for competition, generally held in a public venue, so I had to make the gun legal. Boxes of gun parts, on the other hand, are not illegal until they're assembled into an operational firearm. I'm doing nothing illegal.
  6. It's not about "staying illegal". There is little sense in chasing the whims of the State lawmakers with regard to 'compliance'. The only one I did 'bend' on was my 10/22 target gun because I take it to public events. I had to swap out the thumb-hole stock.
  7. If all you have is that tomorrow is March 15th, your argument is weak. And when you cut-and-paste a calendar showing that yesterday was March 13th, it's only because your original argument was that today is the 14th. It is, in fact, March 14th. Just stop talking about it...
  8. I always pick out these little things, everywhere I go. But I've been building since 1977, and I've learned to let some things go, especially when it comes to remodeling.
  9. Simplest option: Choose a fairly wide 3-lamp fixture that has an 'ornate' feel to it and mount it normally on the box. Then, move the mirror over a bit to 'split the difference'. Very few people will even notice it, and if someone busts your chops over it tell them there's another bathroom they can use. I've done this several times when a customer makes a last-minute vanity change or something. Even after I clearly point out both the problem and the solution, they generally have a hard time even seeing the 'problem'. Don't sweat it, the bath looks great.
  10. That's probably not quite the right fixture for what you're talking about, but I agree with the idea. Something a little bigger and more ornate would give more wiggle room.
  11. Joe Hessney is a good guy with an excellent reputation. I've worked with him on several deals involving coins over the years. Best of luck.
  12. My DIY headaches are generally considered contractor screw-ups. It's what I do. The contractor thing, not the screw-ups. Setting a 1500 gallon concrete septic tank 8" too low, into wet clay, in a hole filled with water, in February, would rank right up there. Imagine trying to pull an 8' x 5' boot out of the mud!! Not a fun day. What happened with the tile Lawdwaz? Up and down or spacing? As long as it's not loose It may not be as bad as you think. Sometimes they just look a bit wonky before they're grouted.
  13. Seneca Lake is 200 yards to the east of my shack house. I don't really have much of a lake view, but between the sunrise and the look of the lake I can get a good idea of what the weather is going to be like that day. Beats looking at the internet.
  14. Joyful about the event. The US flag is lying on the ground. A big smile from the guy with his foot on the flag, even if it wasn't directly intentional. Stomping or not, it's definitely disrespectful. How do you see it?
  15. Mostly Bernouts as it turns out. I've read several first-person accounts of the event and many commented on the lack of Hillary signs among the 'social warriors'. To Sanders' credit he's not really happy about the behavior of his supporters last night.
  16. Using one's fundamental right to free speech, as protected by the 1st Amendment, is honorable. Using that right for the sole purpose of preventing another citizen from exercising that same right is supposed to be a crime. Look very closely at the organization of last night's activities. It's going to be a long summer.
  17. Very nice photos!! Loooong lens, or a bit of stalking involved?
  18. I didn't say I supported it or agreed with it, just that it seems to be the most likely course given the current political wind direction. ;-]
  19. I'll add to my post above: The US Department of Education currently exists to indoctrinate children as voters, rather than to teach them to think independently as citizens. Unless this issue is addressed immediately it's likely we'll soon be in a hole so deep that we'll never see the return of our Republic. That makes it a critical issue. Possibly THE critical issue of the day. Immigration, national defense, national debt, the growth of the central government, and the encroachment on individual liberties...all need to be addressed, but if the next generation of voters trades it all way again for the idea of "free stuff", nothing will have been accomplished.
  20. Trump has apparently been talking with Dr. Carson about the US public education system, because Carson knows a lot about it and Trump doesn't. Head of the US Department of Education would be my guess, because they both agree that it's currently a disaster and a waste of money, and Carson has specific ideas about how to temporarily fix it until it can be completely abolished, and it's authority and power returned to the individual States where it belongs. If I was a betting man, I'd say that Christie will be Trump's running mate. He's a pitbull with experience in the political world who would easily fend off Trump's detractors so that 'the boss' can focus on the reality of the big picture. JMO.
  21. My six-pack abs quickly turned into twelve pack abs, and I'm rapidly approaching quarter-keg abs. DOH! Best of luck to you both this year.
  22. I bought about a dozen child-size camo bibs maybe 20 years ago for hunting in some very nasty swamp thickets. They were on sale for like $10 or $12 each, and I'm about 5 1/2' tall so they fit. I shredded most of them in about a week of hunting, but if that size would fit her I'll look around for any that might be left. From that experience I found that children's hunting gear, even at that price, isn't really worth it. It's just not very well made and the pockets were so shallow that I kept losing stuff like ammo, calls, and sandwiches. Maybe things have changed, and it probably wouldn't be so bad sitting in a turkey blind. Just friendly advice, but I think you both might be better off with some real gear, even if it has to modified a little bit for the next couple of years or carried in and worn only when sitting. Edit: I was deer hunting and crawling on my elbows, hands, and knees. Just thought I should clarify regarding the actual conditions.
  23. One thing that bothers me about the deliberate attempt by the GOP establishment to sabotage Trump's candidacy is the 'gaslighting' that's going on. The insiders are creating alternate realities in order to make voters question their own positions. Case in point, the "poll" that was released earlier this week claiming that Trump cannot possibly win a general election against Hillary. This "poll" was not done by someone specializing in polling, but was in fact done by two PR firms who probably have no idea about how to construct, deliver, and analyze a legitimate poll. It was released as knowledge-backed 'truth' when it's actually nothing more than an opinion piece meant to 'gaslight' the public.
  24. Worked on my grandparent's farm. If I did good they fed me. If I did really good they gave me some toilet paper in the morning.
  25. The pledge does not require allegiance to God, or even acknowledgement of "a God". The reference to God in the pledge has to do with the rights that are presumed to be 'unalienable', rather than "granted by government". Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are rights that we are born with, and that no government can take away. The allegiance being pledged is to the country that recognizes and supports those 'unalienable' rights.
