  1. "All politics is local." --Tip O'neill Politics is a big part of life. It will be used to either support the things we love, or to do away with those things. Ignoring political issues is not an option on any internet discussion board, especially when the issues of hunting and firearms are involved. HNY is a 'local' board, and I find it useful to see what members (neighbors) think on a variety of issues. All of it matters in the end, including the fact that some would like to have politics removed.
  2. De-funding stupid legislation is a viable means of fighting it. It's an ugly means of governance, but it works.
  3. And very few people even care that funding for the SAFE act has effectively been shut down for the near future. Absolutely incredible news, but a lot of folks just don't get it.
  4. This is much bigger than you guys are thinking: the MOU (memorandum of understanding) basically de-funded the administration's push for further gun control, and halted the implementation of some of the existing SAFE act in it's tracks. Without funding for the programs, this administration can't move forward to carry out their intentions, whatever they may be. It's not cast-in-stone law, but it's a big step considering the number of agreeable Democrats in the legislature. A handful of lawmakers have stood up, gathered bipartisan support, and said, "We're not going to allow you to use the tax money of our constituents against their wishes." I can't honestly imagine a bigger success at this point.
  5. The difficulty here is that the problems of illegality in this country are being met with proposals to 'just make it legal'. Appeasement of the masses. I'm not certain this will get any better before it gets really ugly.
  6. Double post...from the department of redundancy department.
  7. One gun?...that I don't own? A Savage over/under... a .223 barrel on top of a 12 gauge barrel. Nice, but pricey! Born, you'll need a whole different 'excuse' profile for that one.
  8. The 17 Mach IV is a necked-down 221 Fireball that's been around since the early 1960's. And the 17 Remington came out in the early 70's. Nasty medicine for varmints under 150 yards, but you don't see many of them around any more. Unless there's basically muzzle contact with the animal, you'd be a fool to even attempt to kill a deer with a .17 diameter bullet, legal or not. At most it's a 25 grain bullet. No matter how fast you're able to push it, it's still just a piece of rice flying through the air.
  9. "Hope and change". And "fundamentally changing what America is...and what it means to be an American...". They absolutely were not kidding when they established that platform.
  10. Magicians and wizards. Curtain-twitchers all. Reality does not extend past the noses of those in power in the world. They have theirs, and to hell with the rest of us.
  11. As of 11:30 this morning I'm one year smoke-free!
  12. People who 'might hunt' and 'might buy hunting licenses' are leaving the state. Only the government could be surprised that hunting license revenue would be down. Create an environment where gun-owners are essentially demonized, make it illegal to hunt with other weapons except in certain circumstances, and then complain because no one is buying hunting licenses? What color is the sky in their world?
  13. Still lookin' at the green side! I'm only 56 yo but the work in construction has taken a toll over the years. I quit smoking so that I can be a pita for years to come. A little payback. "Get offa my lawn!"
  14. Happiest of Birthday celebrations to you, who shall remain nameless!
  15. I've never even tried anything else in an effort to quit, Paula. The patches and gums and inhalers were going to cost me more than smoking cigarettes, and I had no proclivity towards a drug that might cause me to want to kill myself. I vape now. I don't smoke. Life is a lot better.
  16. Congrats to you!!!! How many cameras, lenses, filters, tripods have you gotten in trade for the smokes you've given up? ;-) I'm two days away from my own one-year quit date buddy. 7/8 is the marker. Thanks for the nudge in this direction my friend! I would have done it anyway, but somehow you gave me the kick in the butt that I desperately needed a year ago. Smoke-free for 363 days!! Life is so much better.
  17. I haven't owned a tv in almost twenty years, and I don't go out of my way to watch it. I was recently faced with the option of drive home drunk and hungry or stay for dinner and watch women's soccer and spend the night. They beat Germany, dinner was good, and the bed was comfy.
  18. I found it...right out in the woods...it was just sitting next to that new chainsaw too...and not too far away was that nice Nikon telephoto lens... People should be more careful about 'losing' stuff in the woods.
  19. There was a space in the rack between the 38" long gun and the 39" long gun. This one that's 38 1/2" long will fit right in there.
  20. I'll need some time to put together a list of what you're asking for because it's scattered far and wide throughout my computer. In the meantime, do you have an answer to my question? What, if anything, would you consider improper with respect to government regulation?
  21. It seems there are a fair number of folks here who believe government regulation is 'a solution'. Let's set the fracking issue aside for a moment while I ask a question: Is there anything, at all, that you believe should not be regulated?
  22. The corporate thieves and rapists are using the federal regulatory system to further their plunder by reducing or eliminating competition from the market. The government loves the system because they get lots and lots of money to play that game. The plunderers love the system because, well, it eliminates any free-market competition and they can focus on making money rather than earning it. The label of hate today is "crony capitalism". It's actually crony socialism, and the government regulation that makes it work so effectively today makes it "Crony Fascism". This is the face of government regulation in the US today. It's how the game is played. I won't apologize for advocating against that kind of tyranny. I don't see anyone here advocating for anarchy. But the allowance of a little free-market capitalism would be a nice change of pace at this point. Smart people fix problems. Smart people don't often work in government.
  23. Government has became a big business, and it exists today without any competition.
  24. I opened the back door and the front door and just let the water run through the house last night. Took out part of my driveway too. It's been a long night. Saved the guns and the computer though;-) The only place I have that's dry enough to even catch a nap right now is the front seat of my truck. I'm headed there.
