  1. That is not a definition. It is a description of what is required should a standing army of citizens be required for national defense. That actually may happen again some day. The Second Amendment is about the right of the citizen to be prepared to defend themselves (as individuals) and their nation (as a group) should the need arise. All arguments against the Second Amendment start with one premise: The individual is not a sovereign entity but is merely part of a collective, and therefore subject to the collective will. That's pure BS.
  2. Don't cut from a ladder. Period.
  3. "Kentucky Fried Movie" was one of my favorites when everything was VHS. That and maybe "Amazon Women on the Moon", or "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes".
  4. Unfortunately there are a lot of those videos. Equally unfortunate is that there are a lot of widows and fatherless children because people who buy chainsaws automatically think they know what they're doing. They don't.
  5. People who know about tree work never cut from ladders. That's how we grow up to be people who know about tree work.
  6. The U.S. Constitution does not provide a definition for "well regulated militia". The U.S.constitution sets forth what "unalienable" rights may not be taken away, the right to be armed for self-preservation is 2nd on the list.
  7. To be clear, 'The D.C. Establishment' hates Trump. R or D doesn't really matter. Trump's taking their food dish away and making them work for a living, and a lot of them don't like that idea.
  8. ...but the drone was cleverly disguised as a mourning dove, which everyone knows is not currently legal to shoot. It was allowed to escape. It was tracked to a site where it was found hidden inside...a whooping crane. Meanwhile, the squirrel got away... Paula's dogs were very unhappy, and Wooly's dog really wanted another beer...Bizzaro showed up with a six-pack, but nobody had a bottle opener....or ammo for the Weatherby....
  9. I can't go quite that far Papist. All due respect. But thanks for the reply. My friend's wealth and business has been created over the last decades by selling out Main Street America to Wall Street and helping to create this "service economy" that Wall Street desires and requires for their own prosperity. Trump is threatening that norm, and they're fighting back. My friend is going to have re-evaluate all of his positions for all of his millionaire clients and he doesn't like that. It's a lot of work. I get it. When he calls back I will suggest that he remove his clients' money from China and put it into the U.S. because WE'RE BACK BABY!
  10. He asked me what I was writing about. I told him. He then came unglued for over ten minutes on the phone. It was weird. He's a very smart and level-headed guy who owns part of a lucrative wealth management firm. Do you think it would have been better if I lied to him and told him I was writing a cookbook? I hated Obama as President, but I didn't destroy life-long friendships over it. I hated the thought of Hillary being president, but I didn't feel it was necessary to vilify those who supported her. Something has changed, and it's not good.
  11. " A well-schooled electorate, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and read books, shall not be infringed." Does this mean that only "well-schooled" people have the right to books? https://www.billwhittle.com/firewall/your-second-amendment
  12. No calls from my friends in LE, and no storm troopers at my door. I'm assuming all is well. I "re-certified" at 11:49 AM on Jan 31 and have paperwork to prove it. I was a "clogger" as well. Wolverines!!
  13. This is way outta my wheelhouse regarding expertise, but I think a rider on the homeowner policy should cover it at home. Just like things such as guns and jewelry. If you're operating it off the property it will likely be considered a commercial liability requiring a separate policy. Especially if you have a trailer to transport it. They're nosy, and they want to know what you're doing with your tractor. A lot of it depends on where you live. WNY answered before me.
  14. Lots of regrets over the years. That's what happens when you rack up the years, I guess.
  15. I sold an SKB in the early 1980's. One of the worst decisions I've ever made.
  16. I spoke with his mother shortly after the exchange, who I actually keep more in touch with these days. We're more politically aligned I guess, and her office is in his house. She's wicked smart and a good writer/blogger, so I lean on her a bit. She said the same thing, that it may be some other issue. She didn't elaborate on that but advised me to expect an apology shortly. I'll gladly accept it. I get beat up on websites every day for my political views. It's part of what I do and it comes with the territory of writing political commentary. They don't know me, or anything about me, so I don't really care. But when the hatred for Trump is transferred to hatred for a long-time friend for political reasons, it's really unnerving. This is a recent phenomenon. Thanks for listening/reading.
  17. He also asked what I was up to and I told him I was writing a book about the scandals and failures of the Obama administration. He asked, and I replied. He then vented for ten minutes using some pretty nasty language and vitriol against me, personally, and everything Conservative and/or Republican, before he slammed down his phone. To be clear, he asked me, and then became angry at my answer. We've been friends for 45 years. And we lived and worked construction together throughout young adulthood. We've always been on opposite sides of the political spectrum, but this phone call was over the edge. Has anyone else witnessed, personally, this level of hatred for the President?
  18. Thanks everybody. I'm out of likes for now but I'll get back to you. Interesting fact (at least to me): I was born in 1959 and I'm now 59 years old. I hope there's a bit of Zen in that somewhere!! Thanks for the birthday wishes. You guys are like family I've never met.
  19. ...And then, out of nowhere, a caped figure came out of the sky with an Excalibur sword made of antlers. It was Wooly. With Dinsdale and Airedale heavily armed to support him from the tree-line, Wooly approached the officer and demanded that he "hand over that beer, my dog's thirsty"... there was little resistance at that point...
  20. Excellent! Thanks for sharing, and welcome to the site.
  21. Thanks! No special plans other trying to get some firewood into the house before it rains.
  22. So very true, Doc. That could also be applied to the term "mental illness" with regard to background checks. "Keep it open-ended, because if we ever get legislation requiring a test for 'mental illness' before a gun purchase we need to be able to deny that right to everyone equally."
  23. ...And out of the inky shadows came the man who actually knows what happened. He knew all about the tractor troubles, and even the semi-warm Genny lite being carried as contraband on that romp. He'd known all along but kept it hidden from the HNY website. A staunch Columbo-like figure was needed. It was Pygmy... ...to be continued... Sorry guys. I do write for a living, and sometimes it's just a lot of fun playing with fiction. ETA: No offense, mea culpa. We had one of these threads go on for several pages on another site, and it was hilarious keeping the storyline going. Everyone got poked and poked back. Someone eventually got really angry and shut it down.
