Any ever do a DIY colorado elk hunt?
Trial153 replied to Gencountyzeek's topic in Out of New York Hunting
Yep, I have hunted elk in CO three times all on OTC tags while built points up in other states. Lots of information out there if you research it. -
They (the DEC) can take an inventory and then eliminate DMP use in the units. They should also not allow either sex tags to be used in the areas. Hunters can also manage themselves, by not using DMPS and only harvesting mature bucks till there is a noticeable up tick in the population.... That said neither will happen. The DEC will do nothing and NY hunters will fill every tag they can indiscriminately and the situation will be Exacerbated.

Two or three times a week outside. Maybe 30 shots. Every night, a handful of shots in my basement

Not even close to the same feel against your nose, i have served in nocks and also used dloop material. The nose button weights so little its of no consequence, less then a D loop... as for the cost, its a non-issue as well. 16cents or 16 bucks makes no difference to me.

Bomar is a douche bag. His nose button is solid, very repeatable and instant feed back. Very well thought out. A 1/4 peep gives a lot of play and more consistent anchor will clear up some left right drift.
-
Easy for people that never seen it first hand or experienced it to down play it. Till it hits your area.... especially if the local hunters treat it like non issue and then hunting season comes along and they kill off the remaining deer as usual.

Never seen them even look at them.

There will be too many dead to bother testing. Only saving grace is it a happened late in year. It might cool off and kill them off. In a bad year its nothing to for EHD to wipe out half a farms deer, and almost all the mature bucks. For some reason mature deer sub-come to it more often. Bad part is in NY guys wont lay off the young bucks even with EHD hitting....so you get screwed for 4 or 5 years

Asian themed moose meat pies, szechuan pepper, fine ground moose, a little ginger..and oil&soy green onion dipping sauce

Seen this on the two farms I have hunted in Iowa of over the last 15 years, nothing to knock the population back by half. And when deer management isnt adjusted for it, like it wont be in NY, expect a 4-5 year rebound period.

I been amazed at stupidity that has spouted from his pie hole and Twitter feeds the last four years. I wouldn't put this past him at all. I have to admit I was duped. I honestly believed a lot of the instagating and stir the pot comments from trump would tone down after his election. Not only was I wrong, it has gotten worse. He won't get my vote again. -
I have heard good and bad from people that have guided Shockey and outfitted hunts for him...so who knows

Do too the location we where hunting, the distance was making it logistical hard to take a direct super cub flight in. As such we got ferried to a NFS air strip just off the Yukon river. It was repurposed from a Gold mine. It was a really cool place. There is still some gold mining taking place on an Individual level and as such some cabins being using near the original sight. After a meat load was flown out time Constraints necessitated that we overnight at the air strip, instead of setting up camp we hiked to mining settlement and used a public use cabin...it was a welcome change from sleeping in kifaru on ground for the pass week. The next morning while waiting on the Cesessna we explore a bit, some great history still there and the dredge is still down closer to Yukon....enjoy the pictures.
