I tend to agree... getting them in the woods a couple times isn't the problem... keeping them in the woods could be a different story all together. But I suppose no exposure to hunting at all would be far worse.

I often wonder why some individuals get all cranked up about a special weekend for youth hunting or fishing... does one weekend really disrupt your life all that much where you just can't handle it? Are you maybe afraid a kid might just kill a bird, deer or catch a fish that you already labeled as "yours". Relax... it's just kids getting a weekend to themselves without selfish adults mucking it all up for them... I promise there is no apocalypse coming because of it.

I have tracked and killed bucks with a cigar in my mouth... I don't recommend it, but it increases the challenge.

I'm surprised you never tried flu-flus at a foam Frisbee... my buddy and I do that a lot... one guy throws the other shoots. We also do rabbit hunts with blunt tips... running rabbits at close range is a trip!! I won't discuss our success rate... but man is it fun!! -
I had two on me last muzzleloader season in Stratford, NY area... southern ADKS.

The "compromise" does not change the fact that a certain number of whitetails must be taken each year to stay ahead of the increase in whitetail populations each year. A one buck rule compromise does nothing to serve that purpose with the amount of doe tags already given out in most DMU's across NY and certainly does nothing for the areas with low or no antlerless tags being issued. The answer is to do anything necessary to combat the loss of hunter numbers... a one buck rule would do nothing for that cause in my opinion, nor would a mandated small buck protection program. Those two ideas may be great for overall herd health with already properly controlled populations vs. given habitat.. but that is something we currently don't have in NY. -
I just heard it again

I am a product of immigrant grandparents that held dear their Italian background yet were adamant about assimilating and teaching their children to assimilate to the ways of America. They worked hard to learn English and fit into society, but never forgot their culture. They were hardworking and had a love for the new country that gave them opportunity... never giving up spaghetti and meatballs with a big slab of fresh Italian bread. -

A one buck rule would simply reduce the already very low number of hunters taking 2 bucks and have little to do with overall herd management or buck populations. The reality is that most hunter conceived ideas have more to do with trying to produce bigger bucks than any kind of logical deer herd management. Somehow some genius mentioned a "one buck rule" one day and all the sheep jumped on the bandwagon with the idea that this was the end all, be all deer management plan... I promise you it isn't. -
Actually the record books were not created for hunter recognition. Hench the reason why the B&C system is not based on total inches of antler, but rather focuses primarily on symmetry. If not for record keeping, most of the largest and best examples of whitetails would never have been seen by most hunters. Record keeping is a great way to preserve the history of exceptional North American whitetails taken by hunters. Only the self centered hunters treat the record books as some kind of hunter prowess recognition... or log of the worlds greatest hunters. The truth is that most of the biggest and best whitetails in the record books have been killed by chance and good luck than skill. There should be no shame in entering a buck into the record book for future generations of hunters to enjoy.

Who does it alone camping weekends? Logging trail snow tires
nyantler replied to sailinghudson25's topic in Big Woods Hunting
My personal recommendation is, if you haven't experienced deep deep woods in the ADK's then you might want to limit your overnight to a couple miles in if you're going alone. Camping in the deep woods isn't like pitching a tent in an ADK campground. Just walking in a few miles can be grueling for an extremely fit person. Getting a deer out by yourself even more so. I always pack lightly... no 50 lb. pack in for me. I always plan my way in and out before leaving. When I was youngerI made some trips without telling anyone exactly where I was going and when I planned on being out. That was stupid! I was lucky nothing happened because no one would have been able to find me. Plan well... don't take the ADK's lightly... there has been many a "good woodsman" that never made it back out after going in. -
Couldn't have said it better myself... my position exactly.

What difference does it make? He still is the 45th President of the US... Doesn't matter who showed up, how many showed up, who protested, who didn't like it or how much liberal snowflakes cried. He rallied enough Americans to elect him President and the fact that you snowflakes are having such a hard time with it makes the victory that much sweeter.
