  1. I use 80 gr of Goex FF black powder... .490 ball and hand punched pillow ticking patch soaked in a special mixture of Murphy's Oil and denatured alcohol. Keeps the barrel cleaner after each shot so I can throw a new load in with ease. Hawken is peep sighted.
  2. If you need me I will be high on a mountain in the southern Adirondacks with my Hawken, powder, patch and roundball... and probably no phone service!

I'm more of a glass half full kinda guy....I'm all for getting them out at an early age to experience it then let them make up their own mind.

The greatest worry is not that the young hunters will get a false sense of hunting because they are out in October with a gun and are seeing better deer... the greatest worry is that the youngsters will never hunt at all. Any chance to get young hunters in the woods is a positive for future of hunting and conservation. Killing the buck of a lifetime on their first sit might just be the thing that keeps them in the woods for a lifetime.
  5. The real reason Republicans have a problem with Trump is because the brakes will start to come on the gravy train in Washington if Trump gets elected. They are scared to death of losing their lifetime job and Cadillac benefits. They are ok with Hillary because they really want the status quo and that's what you'll get with her.
  6. The buck in the photo posted is going to be in contention for the NYS Non-Typical Archery record... could be 200"
  7. Yes it would. But they come in too sporadically and not all counties are represented. It would be a logistic nightmare based on how the pages are built.
  8. Check out both places for some of the 2016 harvests so far... http://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/2016-new-york-whitetails.html https://www.facebook.com/newyorkantleroutdoors/
  9. Anyone that thinks they know everything about whitetails... doesn't know much about whitetails.
  10. That's the only way I bow hunt... the hardest part for me is not getting close, but rather when I get close finding a window between me and the deer to fit an arrow. The secret to getting close is using as much cover as possible and moving like a snail. The bigger bucks are much harder because they tend to travel in denser cover. Last year I put myself within 15 yards of a 120 class eight point only to have to watch him walk away because there was no window to fit an arrow for a good shot on the vitals. Frustrating yes... but still exciting.
  11. Every weapon except a hammer... which I hope they will make a season for soon! I would be all for a nail gun season as well.
  12. I love still hunting in the rain with a gun. It's great for masking noise and reducing scent. I would love to do the same with bow, but I won't take the chance of possible losing a blood trail if I happen to put an arrow in one. It can be hard enough tracking a wounded animal let alone one that has it's blood trail washed away by a good rain. Plus, wooden arrow don't take kindly to getting soaked.
  13. The Henry is really nice, but a bit heavy. Especially if you are carrying it in the ADK's all day.
  14. The new Snickers bars are much bigger than the old ones... no need to carry a bunch of small ones anymore.. a couple big ones is enough!
  15. It is an annual thing for me and it comes off if or when I get a buck, or on the last day of the season... whichever comes fist
  16. A late season 200 lb. buck in NY is an absolute giant... those of you that have actually seen a 200 pounder or above know what I'm talking about, but many of the big racker's can be 150 and up depending on what part of the season it is. A 165 lb buck in late Nov. or Dec. could have been 200 when the season started. I'm sure some of you have seen a late season buck that you have a hard time hanging in the garage without his nose still rubbing the concrete floor, yet he only weighs in at 160. Probably a buck that lost much of his body weigh chasing the ladies the last few months.
  17. Usually pockets, I like to carry light.
  18. none taken.. just different philosophies for hunting big bucks... I'm all for whatever makes it fun for the hunter.
