I never purchase lumber from HD or Lowes... real low quality stuff... but I do love them for many other things. Lumber yards usually have far better quality lumber... especially framing lumber.

I love how a guy will piss and moan about bowhunters taking all the deer first... and then in the next sentence says how he would love to hunt year round... yet he has chosen not to become a bowhunter and is missing out on the entended hunting time you get when you bow and gun hunt. It isn't like he doesn't have the option to bowhunt as well... he just chooses not to... and somehow that is the bowhunters fault..lol.. and I can promise him that I haven't been the one taking all the deer before gun season..

I have to admit that the competitive part is also part of what drives me to hunt. Trying to outsmart an animal in it's own element is very challenging... as I have gotten better at it I have changed the rules to make it a bit more difficult and increase the challenge. The whole shooting bigger antlered bucks is much more about creating more of a challenge than anything for me... the harder I make it on myself to take a buck the higher it blows my skirt up and the greater the reward when I'm successful.

Yeah I'dd say that is PRETTY COOL!

Took me 9 years to kill my first buck... I have respect for those that stick with deer hunting even though they don't get the bonus of killing one... it shows that its the experience for them... and we all know how much more excitement it is when you finally put your first tag on one... maybe even more exciting for a guy that has waited 30 years to do so...

My answer would be none of the above... hunting is all about experiencing the outdoors and the glory of nature... killing a deer is simply a bonus for me... I would still hunt if I never killed a deer... it wasn't always that way maybe, but my appreciation for all the things God has given me has given me a new perspective on how lucky I am to be able to experience all the great things that the outdoors has to offer. I can't imagine life without it.

Don't Waste Those Gobbler Thighs!!
nyantler replied to Uncle Nicky's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
Although you could drive nails with a roasted wild turkey thigh... the thighs are great for turkey soup... few hours in the crock pot and the meat is very tender. -
We aren't necessarily supporting the man, just his message... which as far as the 2nd Amendment is concerned is... right on.

Here is where our taxes go for Education
nyantler replied to Dave's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
If you truly care about the kids and continue putting them before your union and the selfish ways of the teachers union.. I'm sure the public will have no problem funding education.. People aren't upset with their money going to better education ... they are upset with teachers and teachers unions taking more and more taxpayer dollars for their own benefit and bureaucracy... with little spent in the way of producing more educated children. It's just that simple. -
I think this pretty much sums it up...Doc

Thats probably how I'd have answered that question..lol.. I didn't see any problem with it what so ever. I like when someone speaks how they feel... whether I like what they have to say or not... I don't agree with everything that Ted says, but I REALLY love how he says it!!

Has anyone built a ground level deck? If so any pointers?
nyantler replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
Looks great John.. much better than a wooden deck built on the ground... very very nice job... I'm sure you'll enjoy it for many years. -

You need to make sure you have stable virgin ground to pour on or make sure it is tamped...and use fiber concrete and mesh.. then cut expansion joints in the slab with a concrete blade in your circular saw. My patio is 7 years old and is still in great shape. -
I always check... and always find it fascinating when I find a crop full of perfectly shelled beechnuts that look like you could eat them right out of the crop. Also opened a couple stuffed full of grasshoppers which don't look so tasty.

I've had one already... you can bet they are getting worse and this years weather should give them another boost...

Glad you understand and agree.

Nice rack paula.. um .. I mean... nevermind.
-
Congrats everyone.. nice birds!

Absolutely true Steve! The relationship between deer and turkey populations and coyotes is anecdotal at best... 1 million deer.. 20-30 thousand coyotes.. do the math... it just doesn't add up. I'd be more concerned about habitat loss when it comes to animal populations in NY... and in the Adirondacks available food sources because of overgrown and under logged forests.

MTG was a customer!! It was the same relationship as a store owner and someone using or buying a product... they weren't doing a joint business venture... MTG had been using their services for 12 years and were cut off because they got into the gun selling business... it's that simple.. much, like the grocery store customer having to find a new store, mtg has to now go elsewhere for their banking needs. That would be "refusing to serve a customer"... so it is exactly the same thing.. before you start what you call "considering all factors" you should first consider reading all the facts!
