send letters for crossbows in NY

I knew you would Now the all important question Arrow.. would you hunt during that crossbow season with a crossbow? -
I would like to see proof of that. I tried googling the percentage of Texas ranches that are fenced and really couldn't come up with anything significant, however it has become common knowledge to just about anyone who knows anything about hunting that there is MORE fenced off deer habitat in Texas than anywhere else in this country. In fairness Steve.. you are correct that much of Texas range is high fenced and the property is managed for whitetails.. and there is hunting on these ranches.. my contention is that this is not true QDM and not the type of QDM that is talked about among the average hunter... I can understand the bad taste Texas hunting and what you see on TV has left in the hunting community when it comes to deer management for the hunter and the deer... it doesn't sit well with me either.

First of all.. a fenced area would not be considered qdm.. no where in the QDM plan does it offer up any plan for any area that is not considered fair chase... fenced area management would be deer farming.. not QDM.. so in fact there are NO QDM programs going on in fenced areas... and when we talk fenced areas we are talking about high fence areas where deer can't come and go when they please... a barb wire fence does not constitute a fenced in area

For my own purposes I think crossbows should have their own season... I would be more apt to buy one then... I personally would not give up the trad bow for a compound during the bow season... But inclusion during the bow season wouldn't bother me at all.... well except for all the dead bodies laying around because of how unsafe I have heard the crossbow would be -
You really don't get it Rocket and I'm pretty sure you never will.. just keep doin' what you're doin' .. doesn't really matter to me.

Funny how you forgot to include in that response what happened in those states? Hum, wonder why? Sorry Sky.. we should have told you that not responding or proving points is Arrowflingers M.O.... -
Not true.. most QDM in Texas is run on huge ranches that are not fenced... but having corrected that.. i agree that many who practice what they call qdm have that "deer belong to me" attitude... you guys are confusing what people are calling QDM with the actual concept... if you don't believe in the concept of deer management then attack it as to how it doesn't work .. don't use bad examples to make points that have no validity. With your rational.. we could say that all hunting is bad because there are some bad hunters

You assume wrong.. and I was in no way suggesting that you were jobless.. just pointing out that working would be a better way to feed the family... you're getting a bit paranoid now Rocket... stop letting your imagination run wild and you won't get so offended

Has anyone EVER seen a good sale at BPS.?. I haven't

I was only making an observation from the statement that you said about spending $300 and only getting one deer... you don;t have to defend yourself.. if you want to hunt for meat there is nothing wrong with that, just didn't seem too economical to me is all... if you really need food that bad just let me know and I'll kill a doe and give it to you next year.

a crow call has always worked well for me...

I never said you had to believe me.. just do some homework...find me some data that says that an actual "qdm" program hasn't worked... and remember AR is NOT qdm. And for the record... the idea of the world being flat wasn't from study.. it was an assumption... once the actual studing of the earth came about is when they realized it ws round.

I'm not so sure about that, I guess if you included the price of gear and really were to total it up maybe, but keep in mind the average American consumes about 200 pounds of meat each year. Multiply that by an average family size of four and you are up to 800 pounds of meat, now lets take say 200 pounds off and dedicate that to venison. Ok so we are going to guess the average cost of that venison is $300 as you sugested, that works out to $1.50 a pound providing you cut it and package it all yourself as I do. Now lets guess the average price per pound of beef, ground goes for @$$3-4 a pound and choice cuts of steak can be $18-20 a pound..suddenly venison sounds cheaper then beef does it not? At my house we do not eat beef untill the venison is gone, and we rarely eat beef the rest of the year, so by my logic hunting for venison is still cheaper than shopping for beef. That would be true if you could be gauranteed 200 lbs of venison each year.. but Rocket said he spent $300 and only got one deer... just didn't seem like an economical way to feed your family to me... a job works much better

If you want to act like an elitist by thinking that bowhunting somehow trumps all other types of hunting... then don't get upset when someone calls you just that... and for the record I actually agree with your first paragraph although none of it I believe has anything to do with someone wanting to use a crossbow... What I believe is that certain hunters have been brainwashed to believe that the crossbow is an "evil" weapon. I just don't understand why... I understand the whole idea of wanting to stay with tradition.. thats why I shoot a trad bow and hunt with a primitive muzzleloader.. and will continue to, but I don't see how inclusion of crossbow into either bow or muzzleloader season would disrupt my hunting in the least. If its just about the principal thats fine... but even on principal the crossbow isn't that much superior to be so threatening that it makes grown men refer to it as a crossgun -

Uh oh he's is baaack... hail to the elitist bowhunter : -
If you're feeding your family by hunting and you pay $300 a year to hunt.. you might want to do the math... it would be cheaper to by meat at the grocery store...

I picked up a nice Bear 45# recurve off Ebay a couple years back for $75.. I bought my Martin 60# for $150 used ...both are beauties and shoots like champs... Like anything else you're right... you get what you pay for, having to buy just a bow and some arrows.. without all the other gadgets can bring the price down considerably. I use a $10.00 glove for shooting finger... I made a map tube quiver, which is my favorite quiver I have ever owned, for under $20. the most expensive thing I have purchased are my cedar arrows which cost me $125/doz... but you can buy much cheaper arrows and broadheads that work just fine.
