  1. Honestly Doc .. I'd love to meet you..and shake your hand.. you're a hoot!
  2. Likewise.. I've always said.. if they had a hammer season, I'd be hunting with a hammmer..
  3. What I meant was. guys use having only a few days to hunt as an excuse for why we should or should have doe tags, why we shouldn't have AR, etc. Everytime a new idea for a new regulation, or a management concept is discussed that answer comes up as an excuse for why we shouldn't do something... It comes up for why they don't like some regulation that already exsists... the fact that a small minority of hunters only have a few days to hunt is not a reason to do what the majority might think ought to happen... so, if those hunters can't "get with the program" they might want to try another hobby... maybe they'll be a little more happy
  4. How did I know that Doc would have a problem with the harvest report?..lol I'm sure if they had said that the harvest was down.. you'd be saying I told ya so... you make me laugh so predictable, but entertaining none the less
  5. I got wore down a long time ago... but for the record.. we have compound bows, recurve bows, longbows, and now crossbows... unless they make me buy an extra crossbow license and give me an extra buck tag for crossbow .. it's just another bow during archery season and just another bow during the regular season.
  6. What? Feeders? Now I've heard everything... maybe we could just change the name from hunting to shooting...Sitting around a feeder has absolutely nothing to do with hunting! If you want to feed the deer then feed the deer..if you want to hunt get you butt out and hunt.
  7. OH GREAT! my camp is in the 20-25 inch range... ???
  8. Poor GENE POOL??? If they grow like that all the time.. I'll take that gene pool
  9. It looks alive because it LOOKS ALIVE!..lol and it is more about the postion than the eyes.. although it doesn't have that glazed over look that a dead dear has
  10. Fried venison heart Yield: 4 servings 1 Venison heart 1 med Onion, sliced 1 tsp Prepared mustard 1 tsp Pickling spice 1 tsp Salt 3 tsp Wine vinegar 1 cup Red wine Flour 2 tsp Butter Procedures Split heart in half. Remove all vents and ducts. Misx onion, mustard, pickling spice, salt, wine vinegar, and wine in large glass bowl. Soak heart in marinade overnight. Dredge pieces in flour and fry in butter over high heat. When both sides are browned reduce heat and continue to cook 5 to 10 minutes longer
  11. I'm all for bringing in anything new to add the arsenal... be another first getting a nice buck with a crossbow.
  12. If you think of a deer as the bonus to a good hunt... instead of a necessity for a good hunt.. deerhunting is a lot less stressful..lol
  13. I am all for getting proficient with ones weapon. I myself sure know that I don't practice nearly as much as I used to, yet I can still put a deer down when I see one and haven't wounded one for a good many years now. I think many hunters are in the same boat as me. Time to devote to actual hunting is limited for most. In your book does that mean these guys shouldn't be allowed to hunt at all if a few days is all they can devote to it? You are one of the guys here who keep saying that hunters should pass up smaller deer and let them grow, so you probably wouldn't mind having these hunters not hunt at all? They might let the little ones grow up for you to shoot a year or two down the road. LOL I didn't say anything about me caring if they hunt or not.. I just think it's a lame excuse that lots of guys use whenever they don't like a new rule, regulation or idea that has to do with deerhunting. If they don't have time to get with the program then they should find another hobby and stop complaining how bad their deer season is.. Guys killing small bucks has never made any difference to me when it come to me hunting bigger bucks or how much fun I have doing it. But! My OPINION is that I am for guys passing on them.
  14. Have a great season every year Buck or not. I actually missed a chippy shot at a beauty 8-pointer this year..that I saw on the first snow. 40 yards walking broadside.. a little brushy, but no excuses... I just flat out missed! ... First time in 30 years that I've miised a buck with the 870... maybe its the eyesight, not getting any younger... he should have been in the freezer, but oh well.. it wasn't meant to be. While I was on his track making sure I didn't wound him I spotted a 4-pointer walking ahead of me and got to watch him for a few minutes. Just love being in the woods
  15. Appendix? OUCH! Get well soon!
  16. If a guy doesn't have the time to devote to hunting he can't be devoting time to practice.. which means he is less proficient with the weapon he's using... which mean to me that he is probably missing more often or wounding more often. I don't get the argument that guys just don't have time to devote to hunting, they only get out one or two times a year... maybe they should take up another hobby that doesn't involve using a weapon.
  17. definitely have a point there Culver..who doesn't like a good nap in the woods? And true about smaller parcels... it wouldn't take long to walk 25 acres... probably better off sitting there.
  18. It's absolutely how many deer you see..if you see no deer, then you can be the best shot in the world and you are not going to kill a deer
  19. Take a look at the deers body in the truck.. there is no way that deer weights 437 lbs.. I saw an alberta buck that weight 305 in person and you wouldn't have been able to put him in that truck :-\
