  1. Good Luck this is only my second year ML and it is quite peacefull I feel. Not as many people out in the woods and the deer seem to move a little more during the daylight!!!
  2. Alright thanks guys. I was just wondering because where I normally hunt I can always get an atv to where the deer dies. However I was thinking of hitting up some state land during ML hoping there wouldn't be many people. If I end up getting something way back in I really don't feel like dragging the whole thing out LOL!!!
  3. That is funny because its like they are teasing you to do something wrong. My buddy works at Bass Pro and he said that B Pro argued that it is illegal to use but not sell thats how they found a way to put it on selves I guess. Making money is more important then the law? Also there is a lot of people who work at B pro that arn't even hunters and if you asked them about the baiting things they wouldn't even know it was illegal. Even if you were talking to someone who knows its illegal I doubt there gonna tell you that because they want you to buy it. Its there job to sell things ya know, there just doing business. I watched people who work there sit there and tell a consumer what is the best one and how to use it LOL!!!
  4. yea i know it would be gone but is there any laws saying you can't leave a deer carcass assuming the rest of the deer is tagged properly. Also if you just hung it from a tree it would be the same as hanging it in a garage or swingset or something.
  5. Ok I got a question now. What if you are on state land and your maybe a couple miles from your vehicle. If you skin it and quarter it right there is it ok to leave what you don't take for meat there or do you have to take that with you? I usually hunt private property and just dispose of it there. Is there any laws saying what your suppose to do with your non deer meat even if hunting private property?
  6. If it was that difficult to where I didn't think I could drag it out and there was no atv access I would hang the deer from a tree and then skin it and quarter it right there. Really isn't to bad. A freshly killed deer also skins much easier then a frozen one that may have been hanging for a few days.
  7. Wow that really stinks. Hope you get permission and can at least have the opportunity to put forth the effort to finding the deer!!! Good Luck!!!!
  8. Probably hit it in the liver if it was still giving out blood. Thats were my buddy hit his and we followed blood forever and ever. It didn't stop. Once we jumped it the second time it never bedded down again (even after giving it another hour) and who knows how far it would have gone. It was actually good we chaised it to another guy because we might not have caught up to it.
  9. I usually like to have a good feeling on the people around me. Who hunts what and how many people maybe hunting an area if any at all. To me its safer that way and easier to get permission to track a deer. Heck one guy granted me and my buddy permission to hunt his property just because we asked to track a deer and didn't just go do it. Asking permission is the right thing to do and it actually would have killed some time and your deer may have died before it got to the other hunter. On the other hand someone could have told you no and then there would have been no hope for the deer. If your not carrying your weapon though I could see people being alot more understanding and believing of your situation then if you were. Loosing your first is a tough apple to swallow but as stated above do you really want to have a debate over your first deer? Good Luck in your future!!!
  10. +1 if the guy took the deer legally then it was ok. Same thing happened to me and my buddy on opening day. He shot a 4 point and we jumped it the first time after waiting 30 mins . The next time we found it we thought it was dead. upon walking up to it it got up and ran. Gave it another hour and got permission to track it on the property where it went. We chaised it right to another hunter who shot it. They took the deer but gave us permission to hunt there property. Its disapointing but if the deer goes right by the guys stand you can't blame him for shooting it. You def. should have waited a while after spooking him the first time. But it was a lesson learned I'm sure. Good luck and I hope you next one is a 10 pt.
  11. I would try sneaking in there also. There def. gonna be bedded down with rain or high winds. Also the wind and rain will def. make your approach a lot quieter. right before the storm hits will probably be the best time to try to catch something sneaking in.
  12. Where are you that there is ice already?
  13. To keep my bow in check. I shot it before the season and it was doing fine and I was right on. However I hadn't had it inspected by a pro or someone of that sense. My bow took a complete dump this year right in the middle of the season. I will now take it somewhere every year before the season starts. Tracking deer. This is the first year I've had to actually do some tracking on a deer. Spooked one up because we want after it to fast. Ended up pushing it to another hunter who shot it. I really got a much better idea on what a blood trail should look like when a good hit is made that doesn't drop the deer. Also that deer pop up out of no where.
  14. If only it was legal to shoot out of my appt. window at college. ??? I had a package of apples laying around in my appt. that had gone bad. Earlier today I threw them out my back window. Well just about 5 minutes ago I looked out and there are two deer feeding on them. They were literally about 5 yards from me even though I was inside lol!!! They didn't even spook until my buddy came over to the window.
  15. Personally I think its a rabbit. But if it is a deer its a dandy .
  16. I don't eat the hearts but I know a guy who does. He says he pickles them. I don't know the recipe but he loves it and eats them on Super Bowl Sunday!!!
  17. Sad story but great job. Maybe he will let you hunt his property after all
  18. HaHa my buddy sent this to me as a text message the other day. Looks like it has been edited somewhere along the line for the site though lol!!!
  19. I agree with culver. What you do 20ft is fine I think.
  20. My hunting season has been luck. I was lucky enough to have one day with good luck lol. After opening day I didn't see one deer until my dad pushed one my way. I got it but it was the first and last deer I've seen since opening day of gun.
  21. Thats awesome!!! Great deer!!!
  22. ^^^^^ I guess they gotta move at some point in time LOL
