  1. PETA has infiltrated! Should try harder to scare me from hunting because the fresh back straps off a harvested deer just taste heavenly. Nothing's better than organic omnivore venison.
  2. In the past I have used climber stands that were already set up at the base of trees (API's) and loved them. With that being said, now that I bought one I hate it. Do you guys find that they are just bulky, and too damn noisy to carry in? Also it takes me like 10 minutes to set up in the dark once I find a tree that will work just right (another process). On top of that, I made the cable as tight as I could but this darn tree started out wide and 15' up decreased the circumference by Atleast 12" so I felt like I was sliding out of the stand as it leaned down. I just left beyond unsafe and prefer the ground... So is it me or do you guys prefer the ground or a fixed stand to packing in a climber?
  3. I think it's the inner man in me who just likes making something useful out of something I don't use.
  4. I didn't want the pine needles poking me in the tush when they get all over my underclothes.
  5. I didn't see anything but chipmunks. Had an overall miserable day. My luck with climbers are not good. I'm sticking to the ground for a while till I get good with the climber I have
  6. Not the best way to start. Used a climber for the first time. Couldn't get the damn pin in the cable. Ended up jumping a deer 30 yards away from where I was planned to climb into the tree. Ended up finding a log to sit on.
  7. thanks, best of luck tomorrow. Hopefully you see a monster, but that would just take the fun out of the rest of the season
  8. Why can't I sleep! Still wide awake, like a kid on Christmas eve
  9. I have never hunted in early October. Last year was my first bow season and didn't get to the woods until first week in November. So with that being said, what do you guys do with a deer if you get one? Normally I hang it upside down with the pully and put a bag of ice and let it hang and drain for a couple days then butcher it. With this warmer temps I cant see how it would be a good idea to let it hang.
  10. Just thought about having to buy a skoal green apple tin this week. I tried kicking the habit but somehow am back at it. Only one lip a day though.
  11. how about some inner loins from a fresh doe you'll get October 1st...
  12. Well I have a new stand that is in a great spot in a pine tree, so I wanted to put pine branches and needles in my tote bin that I store my clothes in. With that being said, I didn't want needles getting everywhere and getting pricked wearing my gear. My solution... I had an old swim suit laying around that no longer fit me. Cut out the mesh lining. Brought over that lining and used the sewing machine to make a couple mesh bags. I left a small (~4 inch) opening at one end. stuffed it full of some springs from a pine tree Used a pin and folded over and pinned the opening shut. It works great, the mesh from the trunks is perfect because the holes are super small, the needles can't even get out. Defintiely a nice addition to my scent control, was easy, and FREE.
  13. I just bought the gorilla g30 safety harness and the quality and ease of use is amazing. Really impressed, 100% trust that thing. Got it in eBay too new, $78
  14. I say they force you to use arrows attached to string like a fishing bow to force those people to shoot within 20 yards
  15. Best of luck. I know I've smoked a bunch of ecigs as that's the thing for my age group. Some taste damn good but I think the vapor may smell, not 100% sure though. I'd stick to snuz or pouches
  16. I just quit dipping this week. Just thought about the chance of getting cancer and losing my smile or life because of a buzz isn't worth it. But to answer your question, I have seen my fair share of deer while having a lip in, and wintergreen long cut sure as hell isn't scent free. I just didn't care and enjoyed my time in the woods.
  17. Someone had caught a nasty case if buck fever. He probably wet himself as he had the rack in his sights.
  18. I went to long branch park in Syracuse and was frightened watching the groups some of these guys were shooting. Even at 30 yards they couldn't group 6" with 3 arrows. Yet they still went to 40 and acted like pros. I think they lost more arrows in the grass then what they pulled out of the target.
  19. In reply to people saying there is no logging on state land. My best friend and hunting partner owns a logging company/ tree removal business and does lots of logging on state land. He told me about the process which I was interested in how this happens. He said something about a bidding process where they take in offers and then contract it out. I'm specifically referring to the area near truxton / DeRuyter
  20. There are some decent state lands near the big city from what some of the guys on here hint towards, don't know if it's necessary to go to Albany. Ithaca region I know has good deer population, and state land near there is available.
  21. I'd definitely say someone who is from the area as they obviously knew where the stands were from driving past or venturing the woods (depending where the field is located)
  22. It's sad to see scum like that ruining the sport. Too bad we can't all respect the sport and other peoples property. One can only hope they put them up in their woods, as I suspect they are locals to you and a neighbor of theirs wonders on their land to find your name inscribed on the stand. Sorry about the bad luck.
  23. I fell for the mechanical head hype last year, and was beyond disappointed by the lack of penetration I got from them. (Spitfire maxx). I switched over to slick trick magnums because they seem to be the most tried and true deer slaying broad heads. Many people rave on AT about them. I personally can't validate their effectiveness but will be able to after this season. I bought a pack for only like $22 on eBay.
  24. Hoyt turbohawk 28" draw, 63lbs Beman ICS camo hunter arrows Slick trick magnums 100gr (haven't shot yet) Qad ultra rest HD Spot Hogg wise guy release (love it, new purchase) I would upload pic but from the app it says it is disabled...
