  1. Lets not forget about Rand Paul, a serious contender if the media doesn't tear him apart and promote a complete buffoon like they did for Obama.
  2. It's never too early to hang cams and get a general idea where they are and what size deer you are looking at when it comes hunting season. One thing mentioned which is a good point is to consider hanging it high in the tree pointing down. Most people won't look up. Look online on the forums and find some DIY tree mounts. I've made a mount that works well. You need two eye bolts, one with the lag bolt end (pointed and threaded) the other the size to screw in the pre threaded hole on your trail cam if it has one(usually on back or bottom) then run a bolt through those two eyelets and use three washers, one in between the two eyes and the other two on either side of the bolt. Use a nut at the end and tighten when you get the angle on the tree right and screw the lag bolt end into the tree. It's easier if you bring a drill in the woods and pre drill a hole. Hope you can visualize what I was describing. It just keeps the cam up and out of sight, and will get you some awesome pictures too!<br />Best of luck.
  3. It will be right now for whitetail hunting here in ny. Not sure where. I want to find a place with lots of land so I can really get in deep, hopefully where some big deer are. It will be any time of the hunting season here. I was thinking about spending the money on a badlands 2200 or 2800. They seem worth the money.
  4. I plan on going on a hunting trip this year, spending two to three days in the woods. I just want to try new things this year and a longer hunting trip is one of them. I would love to hear what you guys have to recommend. I am on a limited budget as I am a full time college student and work full time to stay afloat. Biggest areas of concern is what kind of tent is best, and what size/kind of pack would you use?
  5. Nice rack potential there!
  6. I always attempt to find a spot that I think no one goes to in public land. There is a place rit near my house which is a very popular place to walk your dogs, that bing said not many people, like to hunt it because they say everyone scares the deer away. I've found dense thick spots where deer love to hide and travel, placing my cams there I've seen some nice ones. I just always hang them with a cable lock and hope no one finds them. Best of luck!
  7. Nice size you got there... Definitely have more time to grow too! You should have a wack at a great buck
  8. Hilary has the blood of the Benghazi victims on her hands and mystically gets a concussion... Don't like her one bit. Another corrupt politician if you ask me.
  9. Never too much of a round in my opinion. .300 win is a fantastic round. Please look at a .300wsm instead, as it is better in my opinion and highly recommended by a local popular gun smith. Also seriously consider the weatherby vanguard 2 in .300wsm. I've seen one that shoots dime size groups. Amazing combo right there. Great price too, you can find a rifle in synthetic stock and blue barrel for only $550 online.
  10. I strap the deer right to the rack on the back of the wheeler. And if there is two deer, I tie a collar around its neck and tie the other end to the wheeler and they slide nice on the snow and leaves they always slide on their side so leaves stay out of the field dressed area. It sounds and looks barbaric but it works and I quite frankly don't care as it is effective.
  11. I have like 10lbs of ground venison which was frozen, put it in the fridge which is set at 38 degrees. I put it in the fridge Monday, today is Friday. Is it too late to make chili with it?
  12. Look these up and see which one fits what you need. Obviously it depends on your uses... Time length spent in the woods, if you carry in. Climber on your back I like the Alps bag. All very affordable and seem like they will work. Hope this helps. I was in search of buying some new gear as I plan on making a 2 day camping/hunting trip
  13. Welcome being new to the sport, keep your eye on Craigslist to find some good deals once in a while, as getting started can always be an expensive thing.
  14. To be honest I can not remember the specifics. I just was amazed to find the slug all in tact and not mushroomed at all. I should have loaded it in a ML sabot and shot it
  15. Oh the thoughts of posting up on a section of power lines and looking at a buck cross through my Nikon buck master optics on the .308 >
  16. No doubt the 30-06 is superior at distances where the 556 doesn't pack the punch, but it is tried and true to be successful. I wouldn't mind a 7.62 M4 platform to use, I don't know anyone who takes their rifle off of semi in a fire fight, burst is nearly impossible to control, and you can put more rounds on target down range on semi than you'd think. There standard issue m4 and AR platform rifle over seas doesn't have a full auto fire selection. Unlike call of duty makes it seem, it's safe, semi, and burst.
  17. Then maybe Onondaga county will pass it If only...
  18. I have a hard enough time hunting them during the season, they could open it up year round and I'd still be lucky to call a couple in a year.
  19. Good read thanks. I laughed at the comment about #5 being a "pea shooter" and not effective in war. He must have never been shot at or shot at someone with a 5.56 because they are beyond effective in war.
  20. Well I was planning on using it to access land normally "off limits" by water or deep marsh. But then again I definitely wouldn't think twice if I saw one while paddling away
  21. Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. I have already started looking for some to buy. Can't wait to land a monster this fall, or at least give it a try and check it off my list
  22. Your welcome Spending money on hunting items is a major problem I have. At least I should be able to get my own food if I ever need.
  23. The .50 bottle opener is what I really want. I'll be the talk of the party pullin out a .50 round and poppin bottles
  24. Yeah I'd definitely be wearing one. I know if it tipped it would be cold and with all my gear I'd be trying to swim with an extra 50 pounds soaking wet and mucks filled. I already sink like a rock being as lean as I am. I'll make sure I keep ya updated on when I find one and post some pics of the DIY canoe stabilizer I male
  25. Thanks ants. I just now need to find a couple spots to go to. Off the top of my head I'm thinking there may be a honey hole somewhere in montezuma public land. Looks like I need to get goin on google earth
