And New Yorkers sit back and take it. Why? Either greater than half agree with them on enough things to support them, or most of the people that disagree are too lazy, ignorant and/or apathetic to drag their carcass out and do something about it. Either way it makes me think that I belong somewhere else now. If things like the overnight pushing through of the criminalization of lawful gunowners act and his recent comments don't motivate people then there's no hope. We do, after all, get the Government that we deserve.

But I have a great spot on my 50 acres that's about 250' from my neighbors house. 50' of that is mature spruce so they can't see into my land and I can't see into theirs from my spot. I can sit there and shoot into my land completely safely and they'd never even know it. My current neighbors are hunters themselves so they don't care, but if they were to move and the new neighbors didn't give me permission it would stop me from hunting there. Plus it's not just hunting, it's discharging a gun or bow within 500'. That means you can't legally target shoot with your bow if your neighbors are closer than that and object.

Nope. Work in a refrigerated warehouse so it's 33* - 38* year round anyway.

Been like that in England for a long time now.

He mentioned moving in his NYON column a few issues ago. Next weekend there's a little one day show in Oneida I hope to hit on my way to work.

Durrr, it's right in the first sentence of the OP: "down the road from camp."

Plus is it an African or European swallow?

What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Do you normally give an "exit survey" so to speak of why people are moving, or does it normally just come up? Just curious, not being argumentative. Be interesting to see if it just hasn't made it down the pipeline yet and in the next few years you start to see more people moving due to the politics. I know that several people in my family have started seriously researching and working towards leaving, it's just going to take us a couple years to make our plans final because we want to do it right and not rush in half-cocked. I have to believe we're not the only ones.

Right; what are we supposed to do? Social Security (without significant changes) will collapse long before guys like us are old enough to draw from it so we're pretty much on our own. If we don't accept some risk and put away for our own retirement no one else is going to.

Tax breaks for renters?
covert replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Except that the landlord pays the same property taxes when the apartment is vacant as when it's rented. It's not like his tax burden changes whether it's rented or not. -

I'm pretty sure it was an abandoned hanger in New Mexico. -

Man, between all of the Steves and the WNYBuckHunters and WNYBowhunters and NY(thisguy) and NY(thatguy)I can never keep track of who I agree with and who I don't. Great, now I can't even remember what we were fighting about this time! -

2013 muzzleloader buck Have pics of this guy for 4 years and he got bigger (more points) each one. I shot at him with my recurve in 2009 but he jumped the string and that was the last year I saw him.

I am willing to take one for the team and look at any and all that you are willing to show me.

As far climate, weather, hunting I think we have THE best spot without a doubt. Problem is that the politics affect all of that. We built our house in 2006 and since then we have paid ~$60,000 in property taxes. It's not some big fancy mansion either. Not near a village so no water, sewer, sidewalks etc. That's school, fire and county. We could go out West and have a comparable house for 1/5th of that. Pick the right state and knock sales and income taxes right off the top. I'm about ready to take off and watch NY collapse under it's own weight from afar. I'll feel a bit bad for the decent people who get stuck footing the bill, but in the end, we all have a choice to stay or go.
-
Sometimes I think that too, but you know, then I think about the direction this state keeps creeping and obviously it is tipping further and further in the other direction all the time. I have two young sons now and I'm still young enough that I can move them somewhere where they'll have more opportunity for a better future now before it's too late. I don't mean too late like the razor wire is going up around the border, I mean before they get too entrenched with school and friends and such. Why shouldn't I pack up my family and move to a place where most of the people share our values? You get tired of losing all the damn time. I'm ok with winning some and losing some but being a conservative in NYS you begin to understand how Sisyphus felt.
-
On one hand I was already working on a plan to get out and watch the state collapse from afar, but on the other I want to stay just to spit in his face. Why should I leave? *Insert rated R rant about Cuomo's family history here* I can't understand how anyone on our side can possibly be gullible enough to believe that someone like this snake is giving advice to try and help the other party gain more power.

I've always been pro-crossbow but I also think we'll look pretty silly with no noses. p.s. The only thing I'll ever thank Coomo for is ingesting a large glass of poison to which there is no antidote. -
Hodgdon IMR & Winchester powders have been all the same company for years. Hodgdon bought IMR in 2003 and licensed Winchester powders in 2006.

Went for a little walk today and found 1 Titleist. Dad saw a buck yesterday that still had both horns and I think I saw the same one today.
