Weird. We don't usually get threads like these until after deer season.

I'd love to go hunt wolves.

Runnings has a Dewalt heated jacket too. I was looking at it the other day but I don't know, $225 buys a lot of HotHands.

I went to school with a guy who hit a house when we were still shotgun only and a house down my road was hit when we were still shotgun only. Dumazzes is dumazzes no matter what they are using.

One thing I noticed in my area was that after they legalized rifles the number of shots declined on opening weekend. Where before I'd hear 4-5 in a row now I hear 1-2.

It is a pain. The way I have done it (with an ATV) the hardest part was getting the rope up. Tie to the deer, tie a loop near the other end. Tie loose end to vehicle, drive ahead to pull deer up. Tie rope from loop to tree so deer stays suspended, untie vehicle and back under deer. Lower deer onto roof, tie down, go sip whiskey.

I just brought one home on the roof of my Subaru last week. It wasn't bad getting him up there with three of us but I wouldn't have wanted to do it alone. If I had to I would've thrown a rope up over a branch, pulled him up and backed the car up under him.

I like that cool left horn.

I've spent at least 48 hours a week in a refrigerated warehouse for the last 15 years. Being cold's overrated. I'm hunting not trying to do some sort of penance, if some gadget will keep me warmer longer I'm all for it. When I'm hunting (bow or gun) Southern tier anyway. When I'm up in the Adirondacks I'm constantly moving so it's easier to stay warm.

I've found that if I move out in the dark all I accomplish is bugging deer and freezing my delicate bits. I leave the house or car to head to my stand when it's just barely light enough to walk without tripping. Where my stands are I generally have just enough time to get in them before it gets light.

Smith & Wesson 25-5 in .45 Colt.

I find it hard to believe they'd be wearing orange. They won't even use normal rad/orange SMV emblems on their buggies.

My first time I stood there with my shotgun in my hands and watched, mouth agape, as an 11pt ran across the mowed trail 15 yards from where I was standing. Never even crossed my mind to shoot.
-
Apparently. Nice to hear from you.

I just like the wide-eyed, open mouthed look in the first pic!

My Stormy Kromer. I bought it this summer and have seen more game than ever before. I've seen deer every time I went out which has never happened, have seen several bucks and killed two, limited out on geese every time I've gone out, turkeys everywhere; I even got a squirrel with my bow!

Basically what I was getting at. Some State (or County) land is mobbed and some it is very strange to see another person. I don't think the OP mentioned a particular area unless I missed it.

2014 Hunting NY Gun Season Harvest Thread
covert replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Adirondack 6pt. Saturday afternoon in 5H about 100 yds with my Winchester 100 in .284 Winchester. 139gr Hornady Interlock BTSP with Varget. 1 shot in the neck dropped him like he was hit by a freight train. Not a good picture of his rack though.- 45 replies

I love hunting with a full moon, it saves the batteries in my spotlight. I am kidding.
-
Depends on the State Land, you can't make a blanket statement like that. Where we hunt in 5H I have seen 4 other hunters in 21 years, two of them this year and two in 2007.

My wife has an Uncle who works on the Thruway East of Syracuse who said last week they started picking up one buck a day average.

I'm not so sure we can even rely on NY Republicans. They sure put the screws to us already once. Best I think we can hope for is they slow things down a little. On the other hand for the amount of money spent and the name recognition, ol' Andy really didn't do too hot. Maybe that'll help the Senate find their balls and stand up to that rotten little thug.

Center punched that heart. Nice shot. Two reasons for me: 1) That's how Dad did it so that's how we've always done it. 2) That's where their hangers (horns) are!

Well would you look at that; turns out I know two people who shoot deer with a .375 H&H. I may try a Remington rolling block .50-70 this year just for kicks too.
