  1. Where I work the truck drivers have to come in the office to sign in and out. When they are at the window the (unlocked and marked) bathroom door is literally 10" off their right shoulder. I wish I could forget how many times we have caught them unrinating randomly around the parking lot and how many times we've found fast food bags laying around that they've "used" and thrown on the ground. Animals. Then the decent drivers wonder why so many people think truckers are scumbags.
  2. Look at the body on that thing! What you can see of it anyway.
  3. Maybe they had a good pic of his tosticals?
  4. Don't get me wrong Cusehunter; it's great to get input from others who may have more experience or different perspectives, and I'm not just directing my "read the book" comments at you, I just hate to see people rely on sometimes questionable or flat out incorrect information when there is a free official source readily available.
  5. That's what I was going to ask. Head still there? Too bad but at least you might be able to keep the rack.
  6. That's kind of what I'm getting at. Would you be better served by looking at the rule book that is put out by the very people who are going to bust you for not following it, or by a bunch of strangers on the Interwebs with different interpretations and ideas on the rules?
  7. I don't know when you took your course but I know a lot has changed in the 24 years since I took mine. Heck, there have been a lot of things that changed since last year. The way this reads, you could stand to peruse the syllabus. You just said that you didn't know it needed to be filled out immediately and that you'd been doing it incorrectly in the past.
  8. I can never understand how there can be so much confusion regarding things like when and how to tag deer, what type and capacity of handgun is legal, when to report your kill etc. All these things and more are spelled out in black and white right in the syllabus. So many people can post from their smartphone pictures and details from their treestand and such, but can't pop on the DEC website to make sure they're tagging their deer correctly?
  9. I have that problem too. Instead of messing with my dates though I place a Claymore mine inside the camera door so if someone opens it...BLAMMO!
  10. I've actually heard less shooting the last 3-4 years than I used to. For a stretch there I quit hunting on opening day due to the amount of shooting.
  11. $$ aside, I like handloading because you can try bullet that you can't get in factory ammo. For example I load a 150gr Woodleigh Weldcore FP in my .30-30 which I used to take a buck up in 5H. Why would I even want to bother when there are so many good, cheap factory loads available for the .30-30? Because how many people do you know who've killed deer with a Woodleigh Weldcore in a .30-30? One, that's how many! I also load a 250gr Barnes TSX in my .450 Marlin. With my Marlin 1895M Guide Gun with an 18 1/2" barrel, XS ghost ring sights and handloaded 250 grain Barnes bullets I can hold dead on, and consistently hit, a soccer ball size target at 200 yds offhand! The right load and bullet can turn a short handy lever action "brush gun" into a viable longer range rifle.
  12. No, I shoot most days from the end of deer season until the start of the next one anyway. Helps when you can shoot from your deck.
  13. / \ l l l Where did you get my trail camera?
  14. Not sure but it looks like he's trying to quit smoking.
  15. When I'm up in the Adirondacks I don't because I already have enough s--t to carry. I do in the Southern Zone because the woods are so widdle that there's not that much walking I can possibly do so the weight isn't an issue (and I really really want to get one with it). When I do it's usually a Smith 25-5 .45 Colt.
  16. We really need a "Beating a dead horse" smiley.
  17. I used the same stuff up until last year. All the stuff to put together that setup is readily available.
  18. Didn't know they still did deer check stations. When I was a kid there was always one at the school on Rte 28 in Forestport but I haven't seen it in probably almost 20 years. As I recall they just had a sign on the road asking deer hunters to pull in. Dad never stopped because we never had one.

    Rifle Hunting

Yes on the first as long I was sure (within reason) that there was no one behind. No on the second due to the hill.
  20. I've been all for legalizing casino gambling since waaay back when they let the Indians build Turning Stone. I think it would be a good source of jobs and revenue if handled correctly. That being said, we will be voting NO on Prop 1 as a thank you to Emporer Coomo for the SAFE Act. I have been encouraging all of the registered voters I know to do the same.
