I actually thought everyone would have said deer or turkey at the top. Nice to see some waterfowl and small game up there too.

I enjoy the challenge of deer and turkey. Squirrel was a pre deer season ritual we did so we could actually hunt while scouting in the fall. Rabbit was snowy days when I was a kid and I was the dog. Spring turkey then fishing. Squirrel is relaxing, you can just go sit and wait for them or you can casually walk the woods looking for them.

When do you know you have coyote problem?
DirtTime replied to GR HUNTER's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/28272-bear-kills-dog-candor-ny/ AHAH! The plot thickens! I knew there was a thread where Curmudgeon had made a comment about predators getting to close! Hypocrisy at it's best! I can't quote that thread into this one, but I do know how to snap a screen shot and then add that image as an attachment! So here you have it folks, the pot calling the kettle black and getting busted! See image below! -
This has probably been asked, But I am curious. What do you like to hunt the most that we can hunt in New York State? Deer, rabbit, turkey, grouse, squirrel, duck, geese, pheasant, bears, coyote, or add to this list if you want. #1 for me is deer. #2 is turkey.

The attachment is a pic of the current tent in use. It's a 9x9 with CH of 6'. That tent was $60 and it has actually endured some tough weather. Torrential downpours and 30-40mph winds during a week long camping trip. It has been used a lot in the three Summers I have owned it. This is my tent for camping mainly at my buddies land. But I have let him and others use it when we were at an actual camp ground. When the g/f goes we have a huge 10x14 tent for just her and I. I didn't expect the tent to even last this long for the price. It is a Texsport, same as my backpacking pup-tent. They are good but not great. I always buy my own water repellent and seam sealer and do the whole tent and fly, seam sealer inside and out. I am of the be prepared type, so trusting the factory waterproofing isn't in my vocabulary. Been there done that! Coleman isn't the company it used to be. I have been using Ozark Trails for many years for my main camp tent and they have always been great at half the cost. Thanks for the input Two Track. Appreciated.

They are not in NY, not sure where it was filmed, I do not know the laws from every state, county, city, etc. I know Ultimate Outdoors TV hijacked the vid and are posting it all over FaceBook. I laughed when the fist dude with the came that comment.

Question. Do you have a days when you just hunt squirrel, and other days just rabbits? When I small game hunt I stay on the lookout for rabbit, squirrel, grouse. and other game in season at the same time. Hence why I prefer a shotgun of at least 20ga. A Shotgun is universal.

In NY it's only 6 months. October - March....I don't live in ME, can we try to keep topics from NY'ers about NY actually about NY? -
If this was posed before I apologize for reposting it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0xlzmd7SA4 "He don't know he gonna be a sandwich one day!" LOL Classic!

I would vote for grow. Her no BS tell it like it is way of getting things done will be a great change. All I ask is that when she wins she passes a law that anyone after here cannot undo what she did. I check my profile about once a week to see who's been peeking at me.

Nope. I would not kill one off season unless I thought I was in serious danger. I think we need an all year season. Think about it, how many people actually hunt them? -

Here's some science: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/03/nyregion/03coyotes.html?_r=0 http://www.myfoxny.com/story/22453169/hudson-valley-residents-frustrated-by-aggressive-coyotes http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/21/nyregion/coyote-attack-in-new-jersey-is-second-this-month.html http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/24/nyregion/coyotes-create-dangers-and-divisions-in-new-york-suburbs.html http://whiteplains.dailyvoice.com/news/coyote-conflicts-pets-police-people-rise-westchester Notice the pattern here? No links from hearsay or wildlife protection groups. All from factual news sources. OK, it may not actually be science, but you can't deny facts. -

You didn't really answer my question curmudgeon, if they came into your camp what would you do? If you love them much get one as a pet. You can say science bla bla bla.. But you can't see past your nose so I think you need to stop and agree that you disagree. Kill all coyotes!!! All hail the he man coyote haters club! Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk -
Not to impede on grows thread, but if you are on the main index page, and you scroll down to users online, if you hold your mouse over a username it will tell you where a user is. When i just looked at law he was peeking on my profile, not growys. LOL Edit: He's been n my profile for almost an hour now. When does the line between viewing and stalking become an issue?

You are popular growy. Everyone likes you. Either that or they are hoping to see you in your knickers. J/K grow.

I am not a big fan of the .22. Rabbits run and so will squirrels. I agree with using a shotgun. A 20ga is great, but a 12 will be fine. Use #6 or #5 shot.

Poison isn't a good option for getting rid of a nuisance. With that said, you had to didn't you greg? You just had too...... Time to watch this get out of hand.....LOL

No bow this year. The more I mull it over I am OK with that. I still get to hunt. That's the big thing. I am trying to look at it like I will just do some fall hunting I never really did in the past. I never actually hunted turkey in the fall, so I will use this year to gain a perspective on why so many are upset with the changes. I always liked squirrel hunting. Duck or goose might me a challenge, no boat and no dog to retrieve, so I would have to hunt fields for them if I decide to hunt them. I will also hunt some coyotes. The big thing on my mind is hunting public land for small game when there might be bow hunters deer hunting. As someone who really enjoys bow hunting, I know how this could tick me off. Some guy walking through the woods hunting small game and shooting squirrels or a turkey with a shotgun. But I also have to try and keep in mind, I have as much right to hunt public land for small game as they have a right to be hunting deer.

Looking good so far. Base looks super solid and should hold a lot of fire wood with no problems.

So I am sitting here browsing ladder stands on the web and grumbling that I need to buy and get my stand up in the three weeks at minimum to start hunting 10/1. I was that 'this needs to get done that needs to get done, running out of time' mode. When my g/f chimes in from the living room, "You don't have a bow this year.". I sat here for a few seconds, then I started laughing at myself out loud. I don't get to start deer hunting until 10/24. I have almost three months to wait! The good thing is now I don't feel so rushed. More time to scout some public land. Decided to apply for a DMP after all. Guess I will be doing some small game hunting and will even hunt turkey this fall. Maybe even some duck hunting. Next season I will have a bow again!

Does anyone here have or has used one? Looking for some feedback on them. My camo tent we use at camp is starting to show signs of wear, poles are getting a little flimsy and seeing a little fray on the stitching around the windows. It might make it a few more trips, but won't make it more then that. Looking at this as a replacement: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Bushnell-Shield-Series-6-Person-Dome-Tent/41737126

Mudbugs & Grilled Salmon, It's What's For Dinner
DirtTime replied to DirtTime's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
I will have to try splitting them next time. Thanks for posting that pic I would have thought of doing that. The beer?...I tried it a few years ago. Didn't do it for me. I only had 4 and the next day I had a nasty headache. I get the same thing with Sam Adams. Only a couple and the next day is painful. They are the only two that do that. -
The little lady is in the kitchen finishing up pickling 6 jars of garlic dills. She's been doing this for a few years now, but she would buy the cucs. This year she grew them I asked her how it felt to grow the cucs and pickle them. She said it felt great to do it all herself. The look of pride on her face said more then the words though. I will make a country girl out of her yet! All I need is the country. LOL

Used to hunt in Summit, but never Richmondville. that whole area has some really good bucks, and some great does as well. Its been some years but the farmers sued to be pretty open to allowing hunters on their land, but time has changed. Just do some knocking. If you are OK hunting on public land Mallet Pond isn't to far from there. There are a few others but I do not remember the names right now, Rossman something and if I remember right that borders Mallet. Also, not close to Richmondville but closer to Fultonville/Fonda is Charleston State Forest and Lost Valley.
