  1. They also don't have a cow every time someone farts.
  2. I don't think most of Canada is as hunting crazy as we are in the US. Also, don't you have to jump through a bunch of hoops in Canada to even buy a long gun? You have to take a course, then get approved for a gun license to be able to buy a fire arm or ammo. I think that's the process, eh.
  3. I started getting some things packed up today. It seemed really odd to take my arm guard and release out of my pack, along with the bow string wax and spare broad heads. I have taken one of the rifles up the past two years to be out there for the regular season opener, but my bow was my compadre for these trips. I guess it's the start of a new era. I always try and not get to stoked up for these trips, or at least as far as even seeing a deer. It's the ADK's and public land. No tree stands, no blinds, no apple orchards or food plots- hell two of the areas there isn't all that much in the line of nuts as mast either, and no major goals except to be out there. Still not feeling even close to 100%, so my plan has already had to change to probably trying to sit more then I walk around. I'll be out there Monday having a look around and see if there's any sign in the areas I feel sitting might be productive. If I have to stay this route the whole week at least those areas do have food, water, and some think nasty stuff that could be bedding. Over all it is what it is and will be, I'm going to enjoy each hunt watching the sun come up in the ADK's.
  4. Enjoy your trip and I hope you fill a tag or two next week.
  5. You mentioned that processor to me before, that's over two hours from where I'll be. No processors around Indian Lake ( that I have found anyway ) so I'll be cutting it up on the picnic table outside the cabin. I can see what you mean on this one. I would imagine the black fur would be like a black shirt or jacket and draw in the heat.
  6. Dr. said this takes 17 days to run it's course, I forget what he called it. I said so this takes longer to go away then covid seeing that's now supposed to only be a 10 day quarantine, he stuttered for a minute and said no but...... whomp-lah-blah-whomp. The whole video chat would have been comical if I wasn't a little sick of being sick.
  7. You could also set up a brush blind opposed to a factory made blind. It allows a wee bit more options as to where you set it up and how big you make it. Piling up some sticks and small logs can be less noticeable to deer them a nylon tent, and they already smell like the surrounding area. The last one I put up wasn't even finished and I had chipmunks running across it and through it.
  8. Prescribed some inhaling thingamajig. It seems to help, but it tastes like $u*&.
  9. Bear meat is OK at best. I've now had it 7-8 times, and only 5 are worth remembering. It has to be cooked properly. Stew as good, straps weren't bad, and a couple times steaks were good. The rest was extremely forgettable. My #1 reason for not targeting them as a goal is I know I can take or leave eating the meat so I know my wife will not care for it.
  10. I don't think this down time has been good. I'm outdoors doing something almost daily, even during non hunting times. So I have been looking at a bunch of stuff I have been thinking of upgrading during this time. New broad heads, a new cot for camping, knife making stuff, at some point I really want a fire arm with a wood stock, scopes, scope lens covers, trucks, houses, and a bunch more items I'll probably never buy.
  11. If you have the money and can get the stuff now I would go that route. You never know what next year will bring. You can use the ML during the regular season.
  12. Hardcore hunters don't open candy bars, they shove the whole thing in their face and chew.
  13. At this point I'm hoping they give the Z Pack, and something for the fever blister that showed up even though I don't have a fever. I'm not giving up my hunting trip next week even if it kills me.
  14. I caved and called my general Dr. a few minutes ago. It was getting better then it started to get worse again. Because I have a cough they won't allow me into the office so I have to do a virtual visit. Really? I guess at least I don't have to drop trow and hack up a lung for them.
  15. Sorry to hear about the back issues guys. I know how that one goes. I hope you both heal up fast.
  16. A lot of people think the vaccine doesn't work or help, so is this really something to worry about? I'm waiting for the anti vaccers to chime in on how bad this will be so I can laugh.
  17. I guess he didn't want crossbows in the entire archery season. Some guys take this stuff pretty serious.
  18. What about the place in Hannicroix? Berkshire View Custom Meat? Heard a few people say they do good work and prices are competitive.
  19. Wow. I took that picture after getting the CVA dialed in, it was raining pretty good but there was some nice colors starting to come through. Maybe due to the valley not much color going on? Driving up to Indian Lake in 2019 and 2020 the trees along the Northway weren't coloring the same as once we got on the back roads and started gaining altitude. Thank you for the reply.
  20. I took this in Saratoga county on 10/3. Where abouts were you that there wasn't much to see? Sincere question, no chop busting intended.
  21. Happy Birthday! I hope the day is great and you fill a PA tag today.
  22. Anything for North and West? I'll be up there hunting all next week and I'm sort of hoping a large share of the leaves are down, but I'm guessing it will be like the past two years and the leaves will be hitting the ground keeping my head on a swivel even while doing any still hunting.
