I zig, they zag. I zag, they flip me off. In and ready before light. Sat until around 9 and didn't see or hear anything. While checking the area I found two piles of fresh scat, one behind the blind I made yesterday, and one right next to it. Also found another scrape that wasn't there yesterday. On the way out I decided to skirt the opposite side of the field from my normal route. I turn a corner and come face to face with a deer. Bow in hand and release in my pack strapped on my back. It takes off, following the trail, not through the woods, down the frikin' hiking trail. I get out my phone and start recording. I catch it through some shrubs licking it's 4$$. I keep walking, turn another corner and it bounds off. I know I know, I should have gotten my release out of my pack instead of grabbing the phone, shoulda-woulda-coulda. I listen and hear it going through the leaves and decide to get the release out and try a stalk. It went into some nasty stuff and I couldn't follow. If I was sitting in the spot I had been early in the season I would have filled my bow tag. I'm pretty sure it was a doe, but did have some odd brown coloring in it's head between the ears. At this point it would not have mattered to me. I just want something in the freezer! The image below was pulled from the video I shot. Back out tomorrow morning and then up North with the wife for Sunday. -

"Here I go again on my own. Sitting in that man made blind you never know.". Filling the thermos then out the door. -

Interesting sit. While not perfect, I had the wind in my favor, blowing SSW. So I thought... I watch the sky brighten, see the sun start to break through the tress.... Then I hear blowing, behind me. Two does came in, busted me and trotted off. Flags weren't at full mast, but they had seen or winded me for sure. I sat for another hour hemming, hawing, and running a million "what if's" around my head. I put a bunch more brush between the three trees that were at my back to make that blind better. Then I proceeded to build another one facing the one I made yesterday about 30 yards away. So I have now seen deer three days in a row in that area, and they seem to be coming up out of the marsh and into the thick brushy stuff. At this point, I'm not sure how to go forward. It's public land and gets hit hard for the gun season. Not sure if I should hunt the piss out of it or be nice and not hunt the area much harder to be respectful to the gun hunters. I do know I'll be back there in the morning. I'm seeing deer and that has the blood pumping. -

Heading out in 10. Going to hunt a new brush blind I made yesterday after finding a fresh scrape that wasn't there on Tuesday. Jumped 4 deer in the last two days in that spot, so I'm giving it a shot. Wind isn't perfect, so I may end up sitting where I was yesterday morning. Only have a couple hours. Possible bear scat ( a lot of it ) in the area as well, if I arrow a bear I'll be coming here to ask for help getting it out of the woods. -
Um, I've been putting the lawn of for weeks now. If I don't mow it I'll be sending you a PM because I'll need a place to live. Biz has a separate freezer for grass, he just doesn't want to tell anyone. OOF! Sounds like fun, dragging a bear out alone. LOL.

What ever happens, happens. Pissing and moaning about it isn't going to help or change anything. Both sides are acting like cry babies at this point! It sort of sickening really. I found this great way to take my mind off all this political trash, it's called hunting! That's what were all here for, to talk about hunting right? Oh wait..... Never mind...........
-
So you're saying not to ruin a perfectly good carbon arrow and broadhead by shooting the poop? Roger That! I though bear as well, but most bear scat I've come across looks like piled mush. If it is bear, there's either a lot of them, or that bear shits a lot! I came across at least 10 piles like the one in the pic. And it's/they are roaming the suburbs of Voorheesville. I wasn't planning to hunt tomorrow, I have a crap load of things to get done. My frikin' lawn needs to be mowed among them, it's November for cripes sake. I guess I'll squeeze in a couple hours in the AM.

During this mornings hunt the wind shifted on me, so I decided to move from where I was to reset for the wind. In doing so I jumped 3 deer in the same place I jumped a buck in yesterday. After looking around a bit I found a fresh scrape in the middle of a hiking trail. I decided to set up a brush blind away from the trail over looking a deer trail about 50 yards away. Question #1: Would you leave the brush blind to settle for a few days or hunt it the next day? Question #2: WTF scat is this? It looks like something was eating whole pine cones and crapping them back out.

Headed out shortly. 31* with just a slight SSE wind at 3MPH. Perfect weather to hunt the local mountain I've not hunted yet this season. -

34* out, sky was/is pissing yet again, mumbled a lot of obscenities and turned on the TV. Supposed to clear up later so who knows......... Get it done all you crazy MFR's out there in the rain and cold. -
But those shows have ads for the best products you don't need! You're missing out @Pygmy. I just bought a "Whumper Thugga Boom Rattlr" that guaranteed me a huge buck. All it brought in was three questionable "does" from about 15 miles away. I sent them downstate towards those NYC area fellows.

Nope. ML and bow tags are only good during the respective seasons. Not valid during the regular season even if you use said weapon to kill a deer. Do you need another DMP? I could probably sign you over one for 4B.

Define famous? I didn't think @Lawdwaz, @moog5050, @turkeyfeathers, or @grampy were in any sort of trouble.

Nice list, thank you for posting that. I notice there none listed for Hamilton Co. . Even asking the locals a year ago they said there weren't any that they knew of near Indian Lake. Heck, the closest gun shop;s to there are either Franks in Perth or another small place south of North Creek.

Ready for southern zone opener next Saturday.

To each their own I suppose. I think hunting over a food plot is baiting deer, but that's just my opinion. That's the great thing about an opinion, we are all entitled to our own. -
Was anyone on here hunting the south area of the Albany Pine Bush in a climber in view of the Thruway around 11:30AM? If you were, I tipped my hat and silently wished you good luck.

Why hunt SZ with that contraption, when you can hunt the NZ with a real gun? Kidding, sort of.......... Good luck wolc123. -

Congrats to those who got it done so far today. Wind wasn't right for the marsh, so I set my wife up looking down a shallow gully that leads around a-fore mentioned marsh. She had a decent doe milling around her for some time, and she managed to get it on video. She sends me a text, "Do you see it?". My reply- "No. See what? I'm 120 yards away facing the other direction.". All I saw was a red fox not long after Sun-up. Good day to me, wife had her first deer encounter without spooking the deer. -

Thermos' are filled, car's warming up, back up north this morning. Unlucky hunt #13 for me, #1 for the wife. Hunters moon, but clouds rolling in and rain for the afternoon, so hoping either the 7mm-08 or the 25-06 get to bark this morning. I won't know where we're sitting until we get up there and get a wind check, but I'm hoping to over look a creek that runs into a small marsh the deer bed in. If not, opposite side of the marsh. Congrats to the recent hunters who had success! Good luck out there today everyone. -
That sucks. Is there anyway you can sew a patch in the area for some added wear time? Even on new ones?
-
Eat pizza and hot wings the night before, then grab a Stewart's egg and sausage sandwich on the way to your spot. When you let one rip you'll know if the wind is right. If you smell it for more then 10 seconds the thermals are not in your favor.

You haven't been out once yet? Stop following Hong Kong Phooey and the political threads and get out there! Hell man, I hate hunting in the rain and I've now done it 4 times. One doe. Jumped her in a patch of spruce trees near a swamp, she damn near scared the $%#@ outta me. She waved bye and never looked back. Another day of wet clothes and chilled. They said rain after 10AM. Pfffftttt! It was raining by 8. Outer layers need a retreat of Sawyers and it looks like it will have to be Saturday after a morning hunt. -

Heading out in a bit to do some still hunting. All I have dry is medium weather clothing so I figure a slow walk will help keep the twigs and berries from freezing to my leg. Slacking this season, this is only hunt #12. Good luck out there everyone.
