  1. No....Yes..? Like others have said, it depends on where you are hunting and how much pressure there is from other variables. Most deer hunters who own land aren't out there stomping around all over the place all year. They know the land, have learned the general routines of deer, have stands set up appropriately, and won't be in there screwing around to far into September. Public land is a whole other creature. If the land has hiking trails all over the place and gets a lot of traffic from other hunters or hikers/bikers/nature lovers/ bird watchers then the deer may not be a jittery as as an area that barely gets any traffic from people. Example: An area about 45 minutes from be is very urban as it's surrounded by houses, main roads, business', and had a huge amount of hiking trails scattered through it. There are some nice deer in the place, but those deer aren't as skittish as deer that are 20 minutes from me that's more forest then a hiking destination, so less pressure. There are places in the Catskills that see little to no traffic, and there are no actual trails so deer in there will be far more wary. They don't see or smell human scent very often. The big woods of the ADK's is a whole other world. I'm not taking the state lands that are just outside a city, I mean the real ADK's where if you get turned around you can be out there for a while and might end up in a very bad way. Deer up there hardly ever see humans and will be much harder to kill, but that just makes filling a tag far more rewarding. There are middle grounds, and exceptions to everything. So if you hunt mainly high pressure/traffic public land, then no, even scouting in the season will have little impact. If you hunt public woods with little to no traffic then yes, be out of the woods by at latest the middle of September.
  2. Maybe the clerk was just tired of your lame come-ons so you've been put on the no serve list? There's only so many times a woman wants to hear "I'm having problems with my pop-up, can you help me out?".
  3. I don't use trails cams, hunt mainly public land, but the tree rats are already knocking down the green nuts in a few areas I have been scouting. If the temps stay on the trend we have around here there's going to plenty on the ground come 10/1.
  4. Ours is all but done. A few tomato plants still producing, especially the cherry tomatoes. Cukes, peppers, zukes, and egg plant have been done for weeks. There is now a very large black and yellow garden spider who has claimed the last jalapeno pepper plant. It can have the pepper.
  5. I drove down to one of the town clerks in my area this morning. Easy peasy in and out, 5 minutes. It's nice to walk into a place and walk out with what you wanted right in the palm of your hand.
  6. If ya gotta $h*^, do it downwind at least 30 yards. You're welcome.
  7. Lock this up please. Item has been sold via my FB ad.
  8. Pattern looks good for a blind or sitting on a tree stump. What happened to the boots? Are you hunting barefoot this year?
  9. The fact that there's a thread about "corn-holing" is sort of disturbing. Corn hole threads, milking machines for sale, music videos, politics gone wild, chest girth charts, a store that doesn't sell anything......... Explain again how this place is different from FaceBook, Instagram, and adult sites?
  10. Need a chart on how to microwave popcorn? I can make that too.
  11. It has zero to do with the election, why make this political since it's not in the political area? Meh, oh well. If we must... POLITICAL -------> It has to do with the surge in far more people buying guns that didn't use to like/have guns. Buy a gun, you need ammo. Lots and lots of ammo! A whole lot of anti-gun people are now gun owners. Yet those same people are still going to vote to take guns away from anyone but them. Wait for it, it's exactly what the left wingers are gonna pull. Crazy People -------> It also has to do with all those tin foil hat wearing SHTF preppers who just busted a nut over recent issues in the world and are stocking up even more ammo to fill all the underground bunkers they have. Common Sense -------> Then there's this: No matter why, right now the demand for ammo and guns is at a huge high, and a lot of manufacturers are still at minimal staff, so supply cannot keep up. If I can only pick 100 apples a day, and the people want 500, I need to grow more trees. Sarcasm -------> Get it? Do I need to make a chart?
  12. I was thinking the same thing. But it seems more and more are doing this stuff and boasting about it. I don't get it, and I'm not sure I want to understand the reason why anymore either. One can't alter the flow of a river, one can divert it in a different direction, and even put a dam to raise levels here and there, but the flow will never change.
  13. Same boat with a place I hint in the ADK's. My wife and I can hunt it anytime we want, just no other guests. So I understand that 100%.
  14. If that's how you feel then I'll proudly be a "Regoinalist"! Gets a little irritating that that area gets to dictate what I can have and do and I don't live down there. LOL, only one of "Those Boys" would call me that. Back on topic. As for predictions, the guys and gals that just get it done every season will get it done. Like I said. Things I'm pulling for are @grampy grandson dropping a nice buck, and @turkeyfeathers daughter filling a tag.
  15. You don't have places you can take him/her hunting? What about the places you hunt? If looking for private land tell your friend to beat get a move on and start knocking on doors to ask for permission. Waiting too long won't allow for time so scout and see what's what on the land or get stands in place. If looking for public land to hunt the DEC website it the best place to look up areas, and they will tell you if there are specific rules for a specific state forest or park.
  16. Actually, if you read what those boys from SENY write, I'm pretty sure they think that.
  17. One of the best axe players of all time! May he have jam sessions with all his brothers and sisters who went before him that sound like thunder in the sky.
  18. I predict some will fill many tags and others will not. I predict some dandy bucks taken and some very nice does. Many freezers will be filled. I also predict the "Live From" thread will have too much chat from office chairs and hot tubs. Season's almost here folks, best of luck to everyone this year.
  19. Those are a couple dandy bucks. Hope you get a picture standing with one you harvested.
  20. When did @Chef become such a political troll? WTF! A few leave and 10 take over the BS, even if it is the opposite side.
