  1. Made out good! I'll give Frank's Gun Shop a 4 out of 5 star rating! They had everything I was looking for. Prices were reasonable. Friendly service. Besides the powder and bullets I needed. I also picked up a better primer hole cleaner, fire hole cleaner, another case holder. And a half dozen ice fishing jigs. Was also eying a K Tec? AR in 223 for a predator rig, for $625. I thought that was a good price. I may go back for that? Might check with my WNY buddy and see what he has first. Overall, it's a nice place. I'll be back!
  2. Zoe pronounced.... Zo...wee Or STELLA!!!!
  3. Happy Birthday John! Hope your special day is filled with all the best stuff! And for the coming year too.
  4. What a night!!! Congratulations again Brian!!! Way ta go you's two!!!! Ya make a great team! If possible, give us a quick rundown of you rig, which is awesome by the way. And calling sequence. Along with set up scenario. We could learn a bunch from you and Andrew. Besides the getting stinky part!
  5. Beauty of an Illinois buck Leland!!! I too have found success in fence and hedgerows. Where bucks use them, instead of crossing open fields. Also a creek bottom crossing that connects two woodlots. With multiple trails converging to the crossing, is always a hot spot for rutting bucks.
  6. Yes! Right off Rt.30 in Amsterdam!
  7. I can be at Frank's in 30-40 minutes. Not too bad at all. I called them today, and they have all I'm looking for in stock. So I'll go check them out tomorrow. The reloading bench will then be restocked and ready to go. With the same 270 recipe that worked so well, with mine and my hunting partners bucks this year. And while I'm there, no doubt something else is bound to catch my eye too!! As I'm just a mere mortal, with low resistance, in a well stocked Gun Shop!!!
  8. Yeah.....I imagine he's gotta have a pretty tough, and thick hyde putting up with all of us the way he does ......hehehe.
  9. I have done business with them for a while now. And at first all was good! But lately anytime I stop in for something, they never have what I want. Called to see if they had any H4831 powder for reloading 270. This is a very popular powder for that caliber. No! And no Nosler BT's either! Well....could you order it for me? No! Won't make another order for a " month or so". Told them I could order it online myself quicker than that. Yeah whatever, was the response I got!!! I do try to support local businesses, every chance I can. But NY Shooters Supply stopped supporting me. So I'll take my business elsewhere. The owner isn't so bad. But the kid that works there is f'n useless!
  10. Yes, I go to the Gunsmoke store in Rotterdam. Good guys there. And very knowledgeable. Prices are reasonable too. But they don't carry much for reloading supplies. Will definitely stop in to check out Zack's too, next time I'm up that way. Thanks!
  11. Great team! Good chance a stankdog or two will no longer be barking at the moon!!! Hope the ranges are 100ish or closer. Good luck guys!
  12. Don't think so Larry, that's the 'other' Frank's........
  13. Was hoping you'd chime in!! My hunting partner told me Runnings is nice. He's been there a couple times.. I've never been there either. May take your advice, and check that out too. Thanks!!!
  14. I need to restock some powder, bullets and a couple other things for winter reloading. After finding NY Shooter Supply doesn't supply much anymore. I won't be going back there!! So I'm looking for a new place, somewhat local to shop. Had a couple guys recommend Frank's Gun Shop on Rt 30 past Amsterdam. Called them, and they have everything I'm looking for!! So guess I'll take a ride up tomorrow. Any of you northern NY, or Capital region guys been there? If so, whataya think??? I'll give a review, after I stop in.
  15. I toted a shotgun for over 40 years in the deer woods. Killed a pile of deer with em too. Most successfully, with an Ithaca Deerslayer 2, in 12g. using Remington Copper Sabots. That gun would shoot two inch groups at 100 yards. And I'm sure even tighter, from a better marksman than myself. Still have it. May even kill one more deer with it??? But after WMU 4H went to rifle a few years back, so did I. And I am hooked on rifles now!! I enjoy the longer range, though this years buck at 175 is by far the longest shot taken. Most are from 60 yards or less. And the mild recoil from my 270 and 7mm-08, is so much better than the teeth chattering recoil of a 12 g. slug gun!
  16. This is what the rules are on the public state park land, that borders our property. Good find! But leaving any stand on public land, risks someone stealing it! We have had a couple ladder stands stolen from from our property. So not only were the scumbags trespassers, they were thieves as well! A climber, or hang on, carried in and out with you, is in my opinion the best option.
  17. Years back, I made this exact shot on a mature 8pt. and lost him. We even tracked him with a dog for miles! I ended up shooting him in gun season that year. And could plainly see where the fixed 3 blade thunderhead went through the upper chest cavity, and healed up!!! To this day, I don't know how he survived that hit? The lungs were destroyed from the bullet, but I saw no sign of scarring from the broadhead. I will see if I can find the old 35mm pic's. I have also made this same shot one other time, and recovered the deer within 100 yards! Taking out the top of both lungs. During my days with DeerSearch, I have seen it go both ways many times.
  18. That would have scared the crap outta me!!! We have the C7s on ours now. Will change over to the LED's next year! How many Christmas tree fires do you remember from your FF career Larry? mowin........ that needle drop is just nuts!!! Never saw one drop that bad! Mrs. grampy would have flipped out with all that mess on her floor!!!
  19. Congratulations my friend!! Way to go, on a late season doe!!! (will I get a higher grade for rhyming, teach)?? Letting her hang till Sunday will be fine. Some fine eating ya got there!
  20. Welcome! Nice to have you join us here! Good to have another capitol region guy too!! Looking forward to hearing more from ya! Sounds like you have much to share. Just pull up a seat and, jump right in anytime!!
  21. Man, you do beautiful work!! You have the touch that "brings em back to life"!! Outstanding buck too. I hope 2020 will be the year I shoot something big enough to bring to you!!!
  22. Happy Birthday Matt ! You're the best of the best my friend! Woolybear sends you Birthday wishes too!!
  23. Merry Christmas to all of ya's!! And a Happy New Year too!
