  1. Bow is my passion, and has been for decades now. But for how much longer I don't know? My shoulders are getting kinda bad at 64. Though my athlete grandson has me doing a bit better this year, working out. But I do actually enjoy each phase of the NY deer season. Bow, crossbow, rifle, smoke pole.
  2. I don't have, or have ever had Facebook. So it being down, means nothing to me. But I'm sure there is a multitude of folks out there wringing their hands!
  3. Not that a deer can't be killed in warm weather, it certainly can, and does happen. But hunting in it is not as fun for me. We have some work planned to do up at the farm for the next couple of weeks Also a long weekend coming up! I may try the last hour or so in the evening here or there. Will save all the "good" spots for later, when things pick up. Got some vacation time to use in November!!
  4. Welcome. Will you be hunting in NY???
  5. Cynthia, please revise your pick for this week. I may get out for a brief hunt this coming weekend? But.....we have a bunch of work to get done on the farm the next couple of weeks. After that, it's on for hunting!!!
  6. No, never. And most times get an exit hole too. I don't over push them either. Chrono about 2900fps with these loads. Shot quite a few deer with BT's . Most drop where they stood, or only go a few steps. Tried most everything over the years. I prefer the BT's now. If I do my part, they do theirs.
  7. I'd like to revise my pick for week #2. Since Moho81 won't be hunting, my official for this week is...... UpStateRedNeck. C'mon Paul!!!!
  8. I'm just happy to have stocked up well, long before the shortages hit. Should be good to reload anything I have for a few years.
  9. Was a good day to get down on the bench, to load up 270 bullets for this season. Half for me. Half for my hunting partner. -Once fired cases from his Rem 700 and my Sako -140 g. Nosler BT -59 grains H 4831 This recipe has been great for both of our rifles. And really bad medicine for deer.
  10. Coyote. 100% Final answer.
  11. As long as I know, that a target buck is on the property, that's all the incentive I need. Just because he doesn't show up on one of my cameras, doesn't mean I won't see him, if I do my part on stand selection. I have seen bucks walk within ten yards of a camera and not have his picture taken. Because he walked behind it! I think the bigger thing to being excited to hit the woods, is having a perfect wind for the spot you decide to hunt. If you've done your homework, you'll be expecting a buck to show up there. Even if he hasn't shown recently on a trail cam. Any time I get a nice buck on camera, I try to piece together where was he coming from? Where is he likely heading? And then come up with a plan to try to intercept him, in the best spot in between. I very, very rarely hunt a spot where there is a camera nearby.
  12. grampy's pick for week two....... Moho81 Current points.....0
  13. If this is indeed CWD, hunting as we know it now, will never be the same for much of NYS Hopefully just some sort of intestinal disease from a local water source?
  14. Heading over to Vermont today. Last official husband duty before Mrs grampy becomes a hunting widow for a couple of months. Best of luck to all who are out there! I'll be joining you soon enough.
  15. So very sorry for the loss of your beloved Mom. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with you. We all grieve in our own way. I know for me, after my Mom passed, it was the quietness of the woods that brought me closer to her. Many times, I'll sit out there and think of loved ones who have passed on. The joys. The sorrows. They all come back to me. It is there where we can all gather again, until it's my time to join them. It's there, when I'm gone, that I'll go to find my grandsons, and others I have left behind. Know that your Mom is with you know, and she loves you very much. Go to your quiet place. Talk to her. She will hear you. God bless you.
  16. Congratulations!!! The Pine Bush is certainly a magical place to bow hunt!!
  17. Not so much to kill deer anymore. It's the peace and serenity of the outdoors, that really draws me in now. Anything more, is just a bonus.
  18. My God daughter, with her first solo DeerSearch, bloodtracking find with Xola the wonder dog! She learned her lessons well. So proud of her!
  19. Love your "redneck blind" wolc !!!
  20. Shot my bow over at the club Monday, shooting broadhead and hunting set up dead on at 30 yards. Even flung a few from 40 yards, that hit good! But actually looking for a chip shot under 20 yards at a deer. So, all set there. Clothes all washed and sprayed with Sawyers. Boots and socks too. Pack all set. New batteries in my tracking lights, and rangefinder. Got a roll of blaze orange surveyor's tape to aid in tracking. Checked my HSS safety vest over for any rips or tears in the seams or straps. Checked and installed all safety lines last weekend. Knives are all razor sharp. All set to hunt for another season!!! Not sure when I'll be out there though. Going on day trip this weekend with Mrs grampy. Have some work that needs to get done up at the farm too. Mid October.......maybe? Early season is usually pretty slow around here, except for flat tops over to the lake property. So we'll see?
