The property I have permission to hunt in the western Pine Bush, is being sold. I was aware it could be sold last year when I gained access to it. Thought it might even get sold before this season? Got the call last night that this will definately be the last hunting season, before it goes on the market. So kinda bittersweet. Last year in there, I was at full draw on what would have been my biggest bow buck ever. Easily a 150" class deer. But he hung up, at less than 20 yards, I couldn't hold any longer, and had to let down. He was gone. So maybe I'll get a chance to redeem myself? We'll see? There are some huge bucks in 'The Bush' for bow only. I won't hunt there unless conditions are perfect. The deer in there are far from easy to hunt. I know I am very fortunate to have the choices of properties that I have to hunt. A better, or less selective hunter than I, would likely have much more to show for it. As my bowhunting career winds down, my goal this year is to get just one more 'good one'. My best chance to do that is in the Pine Bush. Happy to get one more chance.

Just curious if your Cal property blows up the last weekend in October, like the Mendon property did?
-
Wow! After filling the DMAP you can hunt one of those giant bucks that roam that area?? I too am jealous!! Can't begin to tell how many slammer bucks I've seen around there over my lifetime! Best of luck to ya! I'm a little farther away than Paul, but willing to help, if needed for blood tracking too.

I may hit the lake property (always a ton of doe's) or the Pine Bush, earlier in the season? Won't hunt the farm until the first real cold snap. As We usually just hunt bucks there. And we have a bunch of work to do as well. I'm not a big fan of early season hunting. Opening weekend, plan to go to Vermont with Mrs grampy.

I think I'll just keep using a soft case lying across my back seat. No moisture, and a much softer ride. Easy access too. I can see that contraption freezing up or getting stuck. Then whata ya do?

Sorry to see Settle not accepting any responsibility for this "false news", or "mix up". Even when presented with hard evidence he shot the buck on a preserve. Was the 15 minutes of "fame" really worth it?

Oh I'm sure he would! But he might just get a kick out of a crossbow!
-
How did you do that?? Who did you bribe??? Oh wait........I made explorer too! Only 47 more badges to go! Collect them all folks!

Let us know how many slammer bucks you have to let pass, before you take a flathead! I'm very familiar with that area, it's loaded with deer. I know another member here who applied, but didn't draw in the lottery.

Jeez...........The old farts hunting club here!!

Fred Bear. Old school, and still very relevant today. It's good to think outside the box. But that box should be chock full of basic hunting knowledge, and woodsmanship skills, to be consistently successful.

Happy Birthday!!

50 years having a hunting license for me. Roamed the farm even earlier than that. The fire that once burned so bright, for so long, is now slowly fading to a flicker of what it once was. But I'm still in the game.

Well,...I've finally earned my apprentice badge!!!

This kid is nothing more than a coward. Why did he drive her van all the way back to Florida from Wyoming without her, if he supposedly loved her? Then hide behind mommy and daddy. The parents aren't much better than him. Hope they all rot in hell.

Thank You Gobbler Chaser!! Will be mounting it on my Barnett Raptor, as the scope that came with that crossbow doesn't seem to hold zero anymore. Once football season is over, my grandson will use that if he wants to. He didn't shoot his compound much this summer. Choosing to train harder for sports instead. So he may feel more comfortable with the crossbow. Will certainly put this scope to good use! Much appreciated!

Congratulations! Well done on so many different levels! -
I'm seeing some early leaf drop too. Not really changing color much, and just dropping.
-
I have noticed in the last week or so, the leaves really starting to change in the hilltowns of Albany County. Usually about the third week in October for peak foliage color here. It all varies greatly here in NY. What are you seeing in your area??? Pictures would be cool too, as we go along! Fall is the most beautiful time to be outside in NY. My favorite season.

Kinda completes the circle for sure. Great job by you both! So many more memories to come. This is what it's all about.

Can we give out unlimited "likes" now???
-
Yeah......me too. Been a long time since I was a newby at anything. Looks like we all got reset, and more advertising was added. I haven't earned badges since I was a boyscout. Not liking these changes at all. Can fasteddie come back and fix this mess?

Great advice as always from Gman, to shim the scope. The little piece of metal in the nose of these masks we're wearing now, will work perfectly! Glad you're having fun with your new ML! Hope to see it laying across a deer this season!

Gorgeous mount and buck Zeek!! Congrats again!!
