  1. Just will never understand, what some will do to get recognition for killing a big racked buck. Is your integrity. and your word as a man, in the eyes of your family, really worth sacrificing over a freakin deer???
  2. Be interesting to see how this all plays out!
  3. Why not get a more modern ladderstand with a larger platform? Safer, and much more comfortable.
  4. So happy to see this thread again!! It is absolutely awesome to follow along with the "Dream Team"!!! Wishing you and the pups a safe and successful season Tom.
  5. Our place is rural farm country, with hundreds of acres. Just happens to border state land. Division has no boundaries.
  6. One of hunter educations golden rules is "Be 100% Sure Of Your Target And What Lies Beyond It". I have made that statement over, and over in hunter ed classes for years. Do I actually think that this was followed by 100% of the people I told it to?? Heck No!! As a matter of fact, most instructors felt that if they ever mandated Blaze Orange, would that give the green light to shoot, if you don't see it?? That could conceivably be, a costly, or deadly mistake. As not all people in the woods, will be wearing Blaze Orange! Simple as that. NYS has had one of the safest hunting records in the country for many years. I see no reason to mandate blaze orange. Especially while hunting an elevated stand. Remember??? Be sure of your target? I have always worn BO and it has not affected my hunting at all. But when you mandate something, most will assume ALL others will comply. That could actually lead to more shooting "incidents" Our farm property borders state land. And we have had issues with anti hunters trespassing, banging pots, yelling, and all sorts of stupid stuff. DEC gets called, and just gives them a slap on the paddy's, and tells them to leave. Only to have more come back the following weekend. I had the ultimate revenge some years ago, when they drove a nice buck right to me, and I dropped it. I kept yelling back THANK YOU!!!!
  7. The blaze orange, with the branch pattern is what I prefer to wear. To a deer, this looks like black branch on gray background.
  8. Bow shooting great. Everything is ready to go. Home early from doctors today, so will go down to the reloading bench. Same recipe as last year. Lake property is usually pretty good early season. The farm, not much happens until mid to late October. We have some work planned up there for early to mid Oct. So likely won't be hunting much before that's done?
  9. Awesome! Great gun, and he looks happy!!! Congratulations!
  10. As you know, enjoy every second, as time fly's by so fast. My youngest grandson just started his senior year.................jeez, where did the time go?
  11. I too think prices may dip slightly over the next year or two. But......I don't see the bottom dropping out of the market either. Nothing else is going down in price. Real estate won't buck the trend. Still a good investment IMO.
  12. Thank you! But you need PP's to draw a 4H tag. It seems like I draw one every other year. I have someone who will likely only hunt opening day, and or, Thanksgiving. I was promised his tag after that.
  13. Congratulations on the early doe's guy's!!! Great way to get the season started! wolc, you'll get one before the week ends. Leave that phone in your pocket man!
  14. Me too. Nasty disease. Nature can be cruel. And will take her course.
  15. Too bad. I hate seeing critters suffering.
  16. Love those Browning Dark Op's cams!!! They work for years, and are almost indestructible. But still working, after being submerged in a flood, is unheard of!! I'd write to Browning to give a testimonial? Sorry to see the flood took away your crossing spot. Look for tracks nearby, as the critters will certainly find another concentrated spot to cross.
  17. In the center picture, you can just barely make out the rings of a coon tail. So I'm with TF on this one. At first glance, I was thinking a pair of fishers though.
  18. Since buying our new place back in May, I've gotten many small projects done. The interior was completely remodled before we purchased. But unpacking, hanging things, decorating, organizing, and generally just making it our own, has kept me busy on rainy days off. The outside is where I've done the most. Stripping and restaining the back deck, power washing the house, cleaning rain gutters, cutting back multiple loads of brush, and doing fresh landscaping. Still need to put in a power outlet in the basement for my music studio. Just about done with my to do list before hunting starts. Will be reloading some 270 rounds in the next week or so. Always chores, or something to fix up at the farm though.
  19. Looks pretty high. Still have at least four or five weeks of growing season left. The new growth after cutting will be more palatable to the deer. If you are going to cut it, do it now. If you can't get to it for a couple of weeks, leave it as is.
  20. During firearms season I've always worn a hat and vest with blaze orange. Never seemed to hinder my success. And have killed deer at less than 20 yards from the ground. So this new law is just doing what I've always done.
