  1. Happy to hear you had a nice birthday,Bill.
  2. I stopped using scents many years ago. I know some hunters have had a lot of success using them. But speaking only for my self, I never was able to fool a mature buck in my area using them. I now just try to get as close to does as I can this time of year. They smell better to a buck than anything I could buy off the shelf. I prefer common sense to scents myself. But if it works well for you or other hunters and it gives you a bit of confidence that is great too. Use whatever works for you in your area. Right now bucks are actively searching for the first scent of estrus does, and will follow that scent far and wide day or night. But after the first few days of firearms season with shooting and much more hunting pressure going on most deer will be seeking cover and moving more at night. And won't tend to be out in the open as much as they are now.
  3. You worked too hard to get him, don't toss him now. Just a little trimming and he will be ready for your freezer. Congratulations!
  4. Great job on a nice buck! Congratulations to your husband! Happy he ended the dry streak and I'll bet he is one happy hunter today!
  5. I practice all year with the quiver on and hunt that way too. Over the years I've gotten a couple of quick follow up shots that made the difference between going home with a deer or not. I hunt mostly from the ground and as long as i keep the drawing process slow I think the arrows in the quiver,to a small degree hide some movement. I will also use just a touch of spray insulation in the holes where broadheads go to hold them tight. The crossbow quiver on the other hand comes off soon as I sit down. It's awkward enough without the quiver!

    Hi all!

Welcome coldwater. I'm a new guy here as well after lurking for awhile. Good luck to you this season!
  7. The bigger bucks seem to just be cruising between doe bedding areas as of Monday, here in 4H. Had group of five does go by and no buck following. The single does are being followed by the smaller bucks or are by themselves. Could be something totally different happening two miles down the road though. Should be full on chasing in my neck of the woods this weekend, and I have four days to get it done with the crossbow! Also very few rubs and scrapes seen for the amount of bucks sighted. But I try to get in and out were the deer don't travel as much, and just ease into my spots.
  8. Three and a half to four and a half. Very nice buck! Hope you get to lay your hands on him. He's got your name all over him wooly! ......lol.......
  9. The sheeple have spoken. Perhaps if there were a more viable cadidate to run against the czar in the first place, we may have had a chance.
  10. He is thick across the shoulders and starting to get the pot belly. For sure three and a half possibly four and a half. A very nice buck!
  11. A thief is one thing in life, I truly despise. It's been my observation that what you do comes back to you. Hope it comes back double for the scum that stole your cams.
  12. Got a good belly laugh from this one! Thanks for sharing Belo. Is he your little guy?
  13. We have dragged them through swamp water and across streams and never had a problem. But we did rinse with garden hose when we got home. Congrats on killing the spike!
  14. My guess is two and a half year old. A very cool looking buck!
  15. What if you are up there and need to do #2? And do you really need a ladder clanging and banging through the woods that you will be hunting? Just make a natural ground blind close by or get a hang on or ladder stand. You will be glad you did in the end.
  16. I cast my vote this morning against the czar and his henchmen! Please get out and vote!
  17. I do most of my hunting on the ground. I like natural ground blinds by small openings in very thick cover. In open hard woods you can't beat a stand in a tree. Sounds like getting up off the ground may be your best bet. Good luck!
  18. Very unusual for me here in 4h. Have seen deer almost every day. Saw nine this morning, six doe and three bucks. Almost had thirty yard shot with crossbow at a mature eight point I've been seeing. But he just didn't give me the angle I wanted and had to let him walk, this time. The bucks are all just cruising and not really chasing, but that will change any day now. Hang in there everyone! It can happen at any time now, so keep alert and be ready! Good luck to all!
  19. Hi and welcome to the forum walt. Partridge run is a lot of land and has all the game you mentioned. I know some guys that do quite well over there. And it's nowhere near as crowded as it was in years past. There is another spot too, take rt.443 through East Berne, go to cole hill rd.get to top of the hill and take right and stop. Parking will be on your right. This state land will get you back aways and not too crowded. I dont remember the name but you should do ok there too.Good luck!
  20. Paying the hundred dollars, give us a legal means to hunt. How we choose to do so is our own choice. I choose not to say another hunters way of hunting is wrong, because its different than my way. I'm as far as you can get from being some liberal that likes throwing money to the government. So you hunt your way and I'll hunt mine. I really don't have a problem with that. It's all good!
  21. Congratulations on a nice buck! I'd say 115 to 118 just a quick guess. Again, real nice buck.
  22. Congratulations to kujo and BfloHunters friend. Nice bucks guys!
