I think the point being made by a few (myself included). Is that realistically, there is nothing we can do to totally become scent free, where a deer down wind will not smell us. Proven fact. So the best way to hunt is to play the wind as much as possible. Of course, it does not make it worse, to use some type of scent control. But any deer, especially a mature buck down wind, will bust you more often than not, no matter what you do.... or don't do. Especially us ground hunters. And throw in changing wind directions and thermals, it does get a bit tricky at times, but that is hunting. I'm convinced that we never see some of the deer that scent us. Regardless of how much we do to prevent that from happening. I also believe that most successful hunters need to have a certain degree of confidence. And if using any type of scent control, gives the hunter a little added confidence, then that is never a bad thing, or a waste of time. Do whatever works best for YOU the hunter!

With each deer I kill with the Nosler BTs I become more impressed Dan. And getting confirmation from someone with your experience doesn't hurt either.

Sako 85 Classic in 270, shooting my hand loads with 140g Nosler BTs, propelled by 59.5 grains of H4831 at about 3000fps Topped with a Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40. It has dropped every deer it ever shot at. Even a couple from it's first owner moog.

If I go to the Mobil in East Berne to get a coffee and a breakfast sandwich, I may spray the bottom of my boots before heading back in? If I remember. Been a lot of times when I had to put down my smoke before shooting a deer though. Then calmly pick it back up after the shot and grin.

Pin is bright with no clutter like you say. I didn't move mine for years! Just got used to aiming a touch higher for longer shots. With your arrow speeds, you won't need to adjust near as much as I did. I think it will be a good fit for ya buddy.

I used HHA on my old bow for years and loved it! Has everything you mentioned on your wish list too. I set mine at 20 yards and was good to 30 just aimed a touch higher. Never had an issue with it.

Just getting ready to head in to where I saw all the small bucks yesterday. Hopefully one of their daddies will show up this morning? 24 degrees and calm now. Cranked my hunting theme song November Rain on the way up this morning. That has worked before! grampy is going in HOT !

Just put your back to a big wide tree. Or find a blow down and get in there. A large rock, or throw together some stuff found lying on the ground to make a blind. I've killed a bunch of deer from the ground with my bow. Crossbow is even a little less difficult.

I've done it three times. Is there any other way but from the ground?

Total of 8 bucks seen today. Two closest were five yards from my ground blind. But none were shooters for me. Lots of cruising and chasing. Got to see a couple bucks fighting, and watched another go to town making a rub. Great day in the woods!

Just like most lands, you need to know where the bedding and feeding areas are. Then try to set up in between them. That's as basic as you can get. Lots of variables to go with that. But not being able to scout at all and just looking at a map, makes it a crap shoot at best. But once you get in there, perhaps you'll find some fresh deer sign to set up on? But just using what you gave us, I'd pick #4 as you have the creek bottom and a little bit of elevation. Deer like edges, always remember that. Looks like a bit of a pinch point there? This could be the way to go. You are right of course my friend. I'm willing to go that route. Thank You! Thanks also, to you all for the pep talk. I was so down walking out, and posting from my truck. You guy's definitely made me feel better. I've never been a quitter, and over many years of bow hunting, I have had many highs and lows. It's a given part of what we do! I do know and except that! I guess age is catching up with me a bit, and perhaps I'm not dealing with it as maybe I should be? I'll be OK, no matter what happens with bow hunting. I'll still be out there.

IDK??....In the off season, I may go over to my archery shop and see what we can come up with? My bow has 80% let off? And only set at 50lbs. Don't know how much lower I could go and still be effective? Shoulder surgery is in the plans AGAIN. Not sure how much that will help or hurt. I do the exercises every day, and have done months of PT. But the doc says with multiple tears and debris scarring in the socket, surgery will help "some"? But at the very least, a four month recovery time for each shoulder. I've pushed myself the last couple of years, just to shoot. And dealt with the pain. But I think I'm done now. Been a good run. I had more than my share of good days.

No.... WMU 4J is bow only. Will just hunt with crossbow up at the farm until firearms season starts. I've had a good run of almost 40 seasons with the bow. Guess time has caught up to me. Hate ending it like this.

Blew a chance at what could have been a P&Y buck this morning in the Pine Bush. Saw him near the end of legal shooting time last night. He didn't come closer than fifty yards. Got set in the same spot this morning. Around 7:45 I see movement and he's coming right to me! As his head goes behind a large tree at 18 yards I draw my bow. AND HE STOPS!! I have two bum shoulders, and can only hold full draw for 30 seconds or so, tops. I held as long as I could, and had to let down. And as I did he stepped out, caught the movement, and was gone! I'm done bow hunting. Anyone who wants a nice Obsession bow shoot me a PM. I'm officially retiring from bow hunting.
