  1. This could be the way to go. You are right of course my friend. I'm willing to go that route. Thank You! Thanks also, to you all for the pep talk. I was so down walking out, and posting from my truck. You guy's definitely made me feel better. I've never been a quitter, and over many years of bow hunting, I have had many highs and lows. It's a given part of what we do! I do know and except that! I guess age is catching up with me a bit, and perhaps I'm not dealing with it as maybe I should be? I'll be OK, no matter what happens with bow hunting. I'll still be out there.
  2. IDK??....In the off season, I may go over to my archery shop and see what we can come up with? My bow has 80% let off? And only set at 50lbs. Don't know how much lower I could go and still be effective? Shoulder surgery is in the plans AGAIN. Not sure how much that will help or hurt. I do the exercises every day, and have done months of PT. But the doc says with multiple tears and debris scarring in the socket, surgery will help "some"? But at the very least, a four month recovery time for each shoulder. I've pushed myself the last couple of years, just to shoot. And dealt with the pain. But I think I'm done now. Been a good run. I had more than my share of good days.
  3. No.... WMU 4J is bow only. Will just hunt with crossbow up at the farm until firearms season starts. I've had a good run of almost 40 seasons with the bow. Guess time has caught up to me. Hate ending it like this.
  4. Blew a chance at what could have been a P&Y buck this morning in the Pine Bush. Saw him near the end of legal shooting time last night. He didn't come closer than fifty yards. Got set in the same spot this morning. Around 7:45 I see movement and he's coming right to me! As his head goes behind a large tree at 18 yards I draw my bow. AND HE STOPS!! I have two bum shoulders, and can only hold full draw for 30 seconds or so, tops. I held as long as I could, and had to let down. And as I did he stepped out, caught the movement, and was gone! I'm done bow hunting. Anyone who wants a nice Obsession bow shoot me a PM. I'm officially retiring from bow hunting.
  5. I know I have some 220s Bob. Let me check tomorrow to see if there are some 330s in that lot I picked up from CabinFever? If there is, I'll figure a way to get em out to ya. How many do you need? I just checked the list, 280 is the biggest we got.
  6. I know I got an ugly mug. But that bastid has me beat hands down! Glad you got your camera back Biz.
  7. Hunting partners daughter, and my god daughter, scores her first bow buck this morning! Seven point. She made a perfect double lung shot. Deer went about 60 yards. Was so pumped and happy for her when I got the text "buck down "!!! Had to skin and cut him up right away, but didn't take us long. I saw three doe and another small buck before coming out for the celebration. Im out now up near the big swamp, hoping to give her buck some company in the freezer! November 10th. The "Magic Day" indeed!
  8. Well yesterday saw nine deer! Hunted pretty much dark to dark, in two places. 8 of the deer were doe's and fawns. One was a small buck that got a pass until next year. Thing is, the doe's were just casually feeding along, with not one buck harassing them? The two year old buck was all by himself feeding on acorns! Anyways.....back at em again today. As today is Nov 10th!!!! What I call the "Magic Day"! Not sure how much magic I'll see out there today? But I'm going to try to pull a rabbit out of my hat, so to speak. Best of luck to all heading out today!
  9. I'm up and at em again! Cams showing a bunch of movement. Hope there is some by me! Guess I'll "cheat" and hunt from a tree this morning, up near the big swamp. Good luck to all heading out!
  10. Blink again, .......and your grandson is starting college.
  11. Another swing and a miss. No deer seen. Back out again in the morning. A hearty congratulations to all you guys that got it done today! Awesome!!!
  12. A life well lived. All the traits of a true gentleman, and outdoorsman. RIP Bill.
  13. Congratulations on a beautiful buck!!!!
  14. Hoping to change my luck by going to the thick , cooler hemlocks. First time for this blind. Lots of buck sign surrounding this woodlot, so lets see what happens?
  15. Congratulations to you and the Mrs!! Fine looking little hunter ya got there! Enjoy every second, as time passes so quickly.
  16. 100% fisher. Very cool critters.
  17. No excuses. I'm simply not setting up where the deer are when they move. We've played this game many times. Eventually I might get it right...lol Good luck with the recovery of that monster Don!
  18. Congratulations to all who got one down today! Some real beauties! Except for an hour and a half, I was in the woods dark to dark. In two WMUs 4H and 4J. Both excellent deer properties. Saw NOTHING! Pretty dismal year so far.
  19. Good luck to all heading out today! It's that time, when anything could happen, at anytime of day! Regardless of weather.
  20. Crossbow in the morning at the farm. 4H Bow in the afternoon for the first Pine Bush sit. 4J
  21. Awesome buddy! Hope to catch up with ya, at some point this weekend?
  22. Congratulations!! Beauty of a buck!!
  23. Way to go Matt!!! Nice buck my friend!!! Congratulations! Hilltowns buck?
  24. Since my hearing has gotten worse as I age, I rely on my eyes more now. Still have 20/20 vision. I've always been good at picking up movement in the woods. Just like a deer. A flick of a tail or ear is all I need most times, even from quite a distance away. Even the motionless deer, with the horizontal profile in the thick stuff, can tip me off sometimes.
