  1. One broadhead that shoots well from my 370 is the NAP Slingblade. Now being made by Ten Point. These heads fly great with the Piledrivers from this crossbow.
  2. So nice to hear from you Robin. Look forward to hearing more from you.
  3. We have used, and I reload Nosler BTs in 270 and 7mm-08. Never one time, have I ever seen a NBT "blow up" on a deer. Not sure where this wives tale got started, but I've heard it before. I have shot good sized bucks through the shoulder with NBTs, and they drop where they stood. I have yet to see any deer go more than a 75 yards after being hit with this bullet. The vast majority are dead right there, and don't even move an ear. Yes, there is some fragmentation, as this bullet is designed to dissipate most of it's energy before exiting. And yes, there are exit wounds. But "exploding", or "blowing up", and not killing the deer with a good vitals shot is not something I have ever experienced. And outside of a little rib meat, nun of our venison was ever ground before we put it in the grinder ourselves. But to each their own. We all have our favorites.
  4. After trying rattling so many times, over decades, this is exactly how I feel about doing it! I just feel with all that noise, I am just blowing out the deer I hope to see??? So I mostly just sit quietly. But perhaps maybe once or twice a year, I will give it a go, during the first week of November. But I never had it work for me, even one time. That said, I know many others who have done it successfully! Just never has worked for me.
  5. Best of luck to you too! This will be a learning experience for us. Definitely some trial, and a whole lot of error. But we will ask questions, and not hesitate to ask for help from those who have been doing it awhile. One thing that will help, is we have absolutely no shortage of predators here. So we will get our opportunities to learn.
  6. Perfectly stated Dan. I love it when you get all informative on us....
  7. Met up with Cabin Fever in Utica today, to take some traps off his hands. What a great guy! I look forward to another meet up, real soon, when we both have more time! My hunting partner Gary and I, are going to learn how to trap predators. With these traps, we are well on our way to getting all the stuff we need to get started. Thanks again Bob !
  8. This is what coming together as a community looks like. So easy to become jaded these days, with rioting, and protests in our streets. To see something like this, reaffirms there are still vast numbers of good people out there. Prayers sent for the little fella and his family.
  9. Used NAP Thunderheads for years. Now using Muzzy MX4s. Both are great broadheads. And will do what they are intended to do very well.
  10. The love and kindness you gave to Frankie, was just what he needed most, at the point he came into your lives. His story is heartbreaking. But thanks to you, he finally learned life's most precious gift.....love. RIP....little guy.
  11. An absolute stud of a buck!!! Congratulations sir!!!
  12. My hunting partner retired last year. So we are going to learn how to trap predators. Coyote, fox, fisher, and bobcat. We have an abundance of all of em. So we'll see how it goes? If anything, two older guys will get some more exercise!..... lol
  13. No deer seen in the morning, or afternoon sits from two different set up's. Very surprised I saw nothing from two good observation stands? But that's the way it goes sometimes. But in between, a broke tractor got fixed, and our 270 rifles got zeroed in with my new handload recipe. Going out to meet Cabin Fever in Utica tomorrow, to pick up some traps.
  14. I prefer to have the wind in my face when possible. I choose stands for the predominant NW wind where I hunt. But the best spots will have set ups for more than one wind direction. I will hunt a crosswind too. But only if down wind is not where I expect deer to come from. There is "nothing" you can do, or buy, to make yourself scent free from a deer's nose!! Trust me!! The best advantage a hunter can use, is to always play the wind to "your" advantage.
  15. Had a great morning at the lake property. Left there around 11 and went the 7 miles over to the farm. Had a bite to eat and went to check stands and trails for wind damage. Had to cut some trees that fell over a couple wheeler trails. Came back, shot our bows, and sat from 3:30 to dark. No deer seen, until I got up the road a quarter mile, after leaving, and almost had a big doe on my truck grill! Got real warm here today. Cooler tomorrow though. Will get after em again tomorrow. And mid day, will test out my new 270 recipe for both our rifles at the shale bank. First day under my belt. A little tired, but grinning like the Cheshire Cat!!!
  16. Little while ago had some deer below me went to my partner. He passed. After that, two nice bucks came throgh up top. Too far for a shot. Great morning!
  17. Except for a couple of doe's with fawns, pretty quiet and warm here.
  18. When I do hunt from a stand, I prefer a big ol' pine or hemlock tree. That being said, my newest stand is in an oak!...lol There was no pine or hemlock close enough, to where it had to be. Great looking spot Rob!!
  19. Up and at em, for the first hunt of the season for me!!! My lifelong hunting partner and I, will be heading over to the lake property this morning. A huge natural funnel, with lots of oaks. Hunting from the ground, and always a great early season spot. A lot of deer sign in there when I was checking the blinds a few weeks ago. Always a bunch of doe's filtering through, with the chance of a decent buck too. Will hunt the morning, go do a little work at the farm, then hit some observation stands for the warm afternoon sit. Best of luck to all heading out today! Especially the youth hunters, and their mentors!
  20. My heartfelt condolences, thoughts, and prayers to you and your family. I have made some lifelong friends from this forum. And everyone you mentioned, that came to the wake is a great guy. I've met some of em. Including Cathy, who is a sweetheart! They just don't come any better, than most of the people here.
  21. Best of luck to all the youth hunters! A tip of the hunting hat to all their mentors!
  22. Great buck! And sounds like a spectacular trip!!! Congratulations!
