The best and cheapest way to secure your cam is to high mount it. Lock boxes are expensive, and if someone wants one bad enough, they can get to the camera. Either make a homemade version, or buy screw in mounts, and mount the cam above line of sight. Some people will take a climbing stick with them, set it and the cam, and then pull the stick, leaving the cam 10' or so. Rarely will it be seen. And if it does, oftentimes it is out of reach unless someone (again) wants it bad enough.

Spartan and Browning Trail Cameras

Cams that MSRP or MAP for cell/data function will be as expensive or more for the next couple years easy. The market is still in its infancy - you might be able to find deals in the high 200s come February, but that is with a lot of time and effort to find those deals or just blind luck. The cell cams are actually going up in price as the technology requires it for the short term. For example, video transmission is the next big event, while the pic sending units integrate smartphone apps and controls. Once the market matures and companies look for ways to continue sales, they'll then drop the pricepoint. At the end of the day, however, we're combining a cell phone component AND a trail cam. Most of these cams cost a fair amount to R&D. As far as reliability, the Spartans have proven to be very reliable with their 3G data transmission are really the first cell/data cam where I can "rest easy" with confidence. PM me if you want a price on the Spartans. While they are not 250, they're not all that much above it considering what you get with a cell/data cam. -

Really cool buck.

You need to get to know thermals as they will at times override the prevailing wind direction given for a day. With a 450 elevation change...its going to take some serious thought and experience to get it right. If the rocky side is a hard break, meaning deer cannot transgress it - then it is a very helpful bit of knowledge if they are moving to your plot in daytime hours.

For a short time - PM me for discount codes to use via the site. Good deals available. -
Big difference between crops you own/control and those you don't. If I had one plant to plant foodplots with, it'd be beans. Deer will feast on them all summer and then if that field is left to pod out - every deer you want to shoot will be in that field until the last pod is located late season. A standing bean field in December is a sight to see in the afternoons. Agree that if not controlling the harvest, it's a completely different world.

Like Jimmy Hoffa style? NYSTA has historically had some challenges. Tough situation.

It is my goal to get my two hunting partners to stay in their stands. I've done two in the past three years and I used to do around 5 a season - a handful during bow and then opening day of regular season. It is a difficult thing to do however. Most of my sits are 1 or maybe 2 stands. Cell cams are nice because they've already shown that getting down from the stand or leaving the woods early has bitten us in the butt at least twice (once turkey, once deer, both times we were sitting at a diner instead of in our stands).
-
Not for nothing, because I know we (the three of us) give alot of grief about our shooting, but you took to shooting faster than anyone I've met. You are not the 99% on this one so your experience is going to be atypical. Even shooting trad bow right now, you'd outshoot alot of veteran competition trad archers.

First arrow since November. Very unusual for me but life has been busy. Took what I thought to be 20 yards and only a hair high. I will take it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's not a cheap system you are running there... Beans are where it is at in the summer!

Updated the site this weekend. Getting there... -
There is a Cabelas across from Walden Galleria Mall in the Buffalo area.
-
And, the way it reads, you can shoot a buck with a bow on December 12 and 13 in the SZ in the antlerless areas.
-
This links to 2015. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/huntseasons16.pdf
-
Look at the map - Late BOW in SZ closed Dec 20. Late MZ closes Dec 20. Antlerless goes until Dec 22 - and does not match up any implement season date. That's an issue.
-
Implementing the antlerless only was supposed to be pulled due to the abject failure. Also, the antlerless late season goes until Dec 22, yet MZ and bow in those zones close on December 20. Pray tell what we hunt with? Nerf balls?

Go and look at the season dates maps... whoah changes and questions...

I created a video on power options for the Gocam. If anyone is interested, Spartan liked it so much they put it on their social media pages. It is on their FB page now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
