Not prime deke placement but had a few limbs blocking area I wanted set up. It is visible outside that branch. We will see what pops.

They cut in the 20s here last week. One field was over 30. Thats alot of propane.
-
Seen four shooters and two chases last four days. One slam dunk shot opp that went horribly awry. 8h.
-
Its bull. That's what it is.
-
Me and moog pulled an all day sit in those temps. Did ok...got a little cols but nothing major. Back at it again today.
-
Yes...everyone was taking 8g.
-
And it cost people tags. I have a spot in 8g but more in 8h. This bug is bad news. Dec should have shut system down.
-
Yep and three of us pulled 2 8g as a result. Hey, need more deer shot? Lets close the units that need deer shot.
-

He's holding one of the biggest kills in the book for that species if I am not mistaken. You picked the wrong avatar to make fun of there.

Have a good one!

I prefer wind over no wind. Noise cover on entry, defined scent cone on steady winds, and so on. Low areas, low areas with food sources, and thick brushy areas with limited shooting/visibility are where I look to be on heavy wind days. Low areas block wind, low areas with open fields (food or grassy cover) can work well if they don't block wind as much (I've seen more mature bucks in open on windy days - using vision where their nose and ears cant work as well), or thick cover where the wind is blocked and you get some thermal temp bump...big boys like to play in there and roam freely. Wind also helps cover your entry into those spots to get in tight. Now, wind can be alot, but at this time of year, I wouldn't be worrying about it.

I'd already have it hung...it's fine stand wise.
-
Decent stand. API is owned by Bass Pro now I believe, but retails in other stores as well.

Find an honest/approachable hunting county sheriff or state trooper. Let him know your situation and give him access. Word gets out fast.

Off Nov 1 to 11th and back at work on the 12th to give me a few days of non-hunting to be ready for opening of gun. Usually take the two week block but work got in the way for the first time in many years.

Kids read this forum. If your language can't pass muster on that test, it shouldn't be posted. Everyone messes up with their words once in a while, me included. Just know that making fun of a person's sexuality on an open hunting forum isn't something I would want my kid reading about.
-
Was that called for? One thing to disagree, another to bring name throwing in and sexuality attacks. Pretty lame in my opinion.

Save yourself some time on culling the bucks with bad genetics and use that saved time to keep the poachers out.

Topo map, some scouting, and looking at wind directions. Darn near every hill will have some element of it where a mature buck is bedding. Likely won't be too far from his bed. Buy the Hunting Hill Country Bucks DVD if you hunt that terrain alot. That dvd is a learning tool...not for entertainment.
-
Classic hill country bedding and tactics - Terry has alluded to it a bit. You can get in to kill him but it takes alot of thought and effort. He's probably bedding on the leeward side of the wind, 1/3 of the way down from the top. There should be a thermal tunnel or military crest that he travels on that hillside. The tunnel is basically where the wind circulates picking up thermals rising or falling and then the wind (basically the spot where the two meet). You would need to set up to take advantage of that trail to ensure your thermals/wind are off to the side of where he is bedding, allowing you to get the shot off before he winds you. I'll be honest, I'd take a stab at him as soon as I am confident I could make an attempt to get in there. With the time of year, his activities are going to be a variable you can't account for. In my mind, nothing gambled, nothing gained here....and nothing to lose with the time of year coming into play. Look at your topo map...might clue you in to his bedding or likely movements from the bed.

I'm hunting with a .243 in Liv Co this year with the new regs. Not planning on super long shots with the ground I hunt anyway (100-150 yds max), so we'll see how it does. Have a 7mm Rem Mag but little interest in buying rounds for that thing - it likes the Ballistic Silvertips which are $2.50-3 a round some places and I have to check for loose fillings after a session. I'm not recoil sensitive but the older I get, the less interested I am in shooting bigger guns when I know a smaller caliber can be just as effective in the ranges I hunt and be cheaper to hunt with ammo-wise.
