I do like the aspect of getting away. That said, I am a huge proponent of implementing technology for hunting. Especially proper game camera use and internet scdouting. Layering topos and aerials alogn with wind and weather information narrows down my scouting. I like being able to be here, look at info for Ohio, go there, and find out I am right on the money for where I need to be, I do prefer to sit and hunt as much as possible, but texting often comes into play as its hard to get away for any length of time now. I do however, "happen" to leave my phone at the truck once in a while.

Agree or Disagree Poll

A dollar and a dream! I agree that makes no sense. -
Fall plant with a WR cover in my opinion. I REALLY like Alice white clover. I think outside of a few varieties, clover plots are the same as long as they can take grazing pressure and the cold conditions here - at least from the common man's management POV. If you're into heavy management of a big block of ground, then that changes things, but there's a point where returns are no longer ascernible. Mix in some red, some hearty whites, and fall plant with something to help it focus on root structure and come in strong the following year.

Agree or Disagree Poll

I actually think it's not far off. They're simplifying the structure and reducing cost. Look at licenses like a tax...less tax...more business/growth. Now, I don't necessarily think it will lead to more revenue now than before, but the funding may be increased from different sources or the tag structure itself. For example, in Ohio, you can buy antlerless for $X dollar, but the tag is no longer valid after X-date (usually the start of regular season). You can however, buy an either-sex tag for more than double the cost of the antlerless, which is good for a longer period of time. You can buy up to X either sex, but can only take one buck. I think the funding part is meaning the money can be earmarked for actual spending rather than stockpiling the coffer. -
Lots of people order from them. Probably one of the most well known companies out there.

The cause is timing, really. There were no true candidate within that "age/generation" range willing to run against an incumbent. The new crop to me will be much more successful imo. Rubio, Jindhal, and Ryan really want to try their luck for 2016 when an open competition brings better odds. Really, they're the next "generation" so to speak. Nobody from the current camp could produce...and Romney was the only transition from 2008 left. I know it seems like the pursuit of nomination was tough for him, but it was easy because nobody really had a good foothold. Ryan's talk came about too late, and you better believe he took the nom with the intent to lead the push for 2016. Rubio knows he has a legit shot, and carrying Florida, makes his nomination much more likely IMO. He's also much more inclined to have base support while pulling in the hispanic vote. I like Jindhal (he literally headed the Louisiana Department of Health at 24 years old...seriouisly, 24 years old!) but he really hasn't done enough on the national stage or have the clout to really contest.

Are you crazy or something? It's burgeoning right now. He's one of the hottest DNC tickets for president. You must skim over reality. The guy is not for me, nor for most on this site, but he's not even close to having his political career over to our dismay. He's on the 3-4 year plan because he's going to be running for POTUS.

.410.... Relax.
-
He's on the 3-4 yr plan for NY. Beyond that doesn't matter...

I strongly disagree about the re-election. He's a top two or three DNC candidate right now. Hillary, Cuomo, and Biden. Trust me, he knows he has a shot to get the DNC nomination. In fact, I think he's a lock favorite. I don't think Clinton will re-establish herself healthwise and with enough vigor to win. Biden, as much as he may seem like a favorite right now, another four years will age him pretty fast. Cuomo is ripe for the picking in my opinion - and he knows it - and that is why you see efforts to be progressive, get the budget done on time, etc. Him and his staff are no dummies. It's a very calculated and unfortunately, well-planned effort. I dislike him as much as anyone on here, but face the facts - he knows what he is doing here and he thus far has done it with minimal damage to his base.

This not a plan for re-election. This is a plan for DNC nomination for President. The gun laws, the gas station requirements for generators, the "trying to appease hunters" with this program, and the ads...see the ads lately? Pushing to get the budget done on April 1 and touting no new taxes = more jobs. His supporting cast is doing a great and sly job at making a push for the DNC nomination. I hate to say it, but it'd be better for America if the budget here in NY was late this year and every subsquent year he is in office. Otherwise, it's just more spin in his cap to tout for the national campaign.

They're nice. My FIL has them, but they're not really all that cost effective and long-lasting before recharge. Value packs of the foot warmers can be had pretty cheap and will last more hours than a single charge of the insoles. I think my FIL likes them because he's a gadget guy and not someone who hunts for more than 3-3.5 hours a single hunt outside of opening gun day. Plus you have to remember to charge them...I usually keep my hunting boots in a separate tub and change out of them at the truck.

Ever see Dave Watson? Lots of people doing that but not nearly as proficient.

Someone on this site I know has a new Escalade and a new BMW...I can't wait until he plugs a 200+ pound rut stunk buck this fall. I'm going to video tape it all.

http://www.bowhuntingsupershow.com/ New show and they just released the vendor list. Talk about a who's who list for the public! This is about as good as it gets for the public that can't get into the ATA. I know I'll be making the drive...it's only 3 hours and 50 min from Rochester.

That's a RH bow Joe.

Sticker says 70. Good thing I shoot 28". Awesome bow.

This thread comes around every year. I think it's just turkeys being turkey, honestly.

Do people not stack up wounded deer by trying to always go beyond the effective range of the weapon of choice? That issue has zero to do with the calibler/firearm of choice, but rather the human element. To me, there's no difference between a 12 gauge hunter slinging one out of its effective range/shooting capability and the .410 hunter doing the same. The critical component is the hunter, not the weapon. If both stay within their effective range, then there's no difference imo.

Passing it on...if I hadn't moved onto black flash, I'd be buying...and I'm still tempted. http://theoutdoorspy.com/ Sale ends today, but he has SG550 cams for $90! The SG550 pretty much revolutionized the digital game cam market. I had one of the first production models as HCO sent me one before they even sold to the market when I wrote new game cam articles for a publication. That cam single handedly worked for years and years before giving up the ghost last year.

Ha, love ya Grow! I've seen clubs purposely drop dogs several properties away so they can trespass for deer. I've also seen instances where the hunters doing that blatantly told that to the landowners face. Tough to enforce when dogs can be retrieved legally in VA that way. Different up here for sure, but the premise is the same...ethics apply here and most probably would agree that had the guy asked ahead of time, he probably would have gotten permission to run dogs for yotes or retrieve them.
-
You mean DSLR? I bought a Rebel XT many years ago and still use it to this day. I've shied away from it whilst in the field as basic point and shoot cams have started to carry much of the functions I would use it for (supporting photography for articles, but not necessarily world-class images).

Running dogs is indeed not easy. I've seen some awesome and some not so awesome aspects of running dogs for deer. We ran on 4,200 acres of continuous parcel. And, we had plenty of situations where the dogs (stupid walkers...they'll run a straight line for miles before realizing anything) went well beyond our land, on hunts that were some of the most highly organized I have ever been a part of. You could legally retrieve dogs on others property there, so imagine how that can play out. But, we had good relations with all of the surrounding parcel owners and then beyond that even. I just don't see how one can ethically run dogs up here when the dogs are likely to cross borders based on the small parcel sizes unless you have absolute permission. If I want coyote control, I'm bringing in a trapper to lay some steel. Split - Honest question - If this guy is indeed running coyotes with dogs, if he came to you, noted how he hunts on a neighbor's land and kindly asked for permission to run dogs, would you have let him?
