  1. Acrage probably varies based on how close it is to Farmington/Victor...price goes up close there and then also around the lake areas. It has a good balance for hunting, if that is a factor, but at $128k...I'm hoping there are other factors involved..timber value, any rights, crp possibilities, etc. Also other uses come into play as to value.

    Decoys?

I had a strutter destroyed last year...I kept it in my hub blind in open woods and the blind partially blew over during the week...by Saturday morning...that thing was destroyed...I was ticked. The birds must have been on top of it for days. Picked up a new one cheap...Cabelas in-house brand. I'm going to use a natural jake fan on it that I have. I'll carry a lone foam hen decoy when moving about.
  3. I'm totally fighting the urge now....wrapping up the last payment on my Dakota Quad cab....only 107k miles since I pulled her out of the dealership all shiny and new....I'm thinking she's got plenty of life left. But I'd really love a new full-size...oh well. Gotta come up with a way to save for property somehow, right?
  4. Back on track...congrats!
  5. NE Indiana has good pockets and then there are some good southern counties... Its probably the best sleeper state right now. If they would back the gun season up...it'd probably be a top five state...heck it might even be even with the early gun season.
  6. There are no big deer in Rush. Why make up such fallacy?

    Iowa!!

Do it now...we can go in on the trip, ha. Either public or private...we can figure that out.
  8. Much of suburbia has discharge laws that supercedes this issue. Most jurisdictions consider a bow a firearm that can be discharged...and if they don't, they typically include it in their "no discharge" or "limited discharge" code.
  9. All messages replied to. The scope is a Bushnell Trophy in matching camo.
  10. That store chain has some good sales and regular prices from tiem to time. I worked for them 2000-2001 while in college and had a blast.

    Iowa!!

Gonna be a long 3-4 years for you. I'm in the same boat...no "ins" but my partner and I are starting points pruchasing this year. Looks like a fun trip. I'm going to Ohio this weekend for scouting and hopefully a shed or two and then the Ohio Expo (same company runs the Iowa show) two weeks after that. Found a shed while hunting Ohio last year...pretty neat...picked it up as we were packing stands out after the week was over.
  12. That's worse and worser imo. Cuddyback and Stealth routinely rank (informally) at the bottom for CS. Cudde used to be great (#1 early on) but they have not done all that great to date in recent years despite having a fanbase. Stealth? I don't know how they stay in business. The whiteflash capture has some fans...but that's about it out of the four that I would even look at.
  13. Got the Bodyguard...not a bad gun. The pulls takes a little to get used to, but it is nice. I'd love to check out the DB...people say it is great. I think it is made from the Kel-tec people...or some sort of business deal that involves them.

    Iowa!!

I'm starting the points gathering this year. Figured I'd better start now if I ever wanted to make it happen. Good luck...I'm not so sure I'd want to go there without a tag pending...I'd die from the anticipation.
  15. Have to assume BPS. Cabela's won't cannabalize Hamburg or the MA stores since they are the largest and one of the largest in the chain, respectively. Cabela's recently announced an OH and a MI store.
  16. If reviews are mixed, then might not be a great idea. While Ohio has great hunting, it's not the place I would book a hunt. I'd either go public or gain permission or lease. Obviously if you have other constraints then it makes sense, but Ohio still has alot to offer and the amount of public land that is legit quality hunting is unreal. There are pockets of it all over the state.
  17. Might want to look at 81 to 17 to 95. It saves some time dealing with DC. 81 to Winchester, 17 to around Fredericksburg and hop onto 95 from there and run down. I actually cut about an hour off of the trip by avoiding DC. 295 goes around Richmond so you can bypass it if you time it wrong. 17 is pretty scenic and rural at times. It'll take you past some old fashioned southern estates, a wintery or two, and doesn't contain much traffic. About the toughest part is jumping on 95 but that'll be the case wherever you get on that interstate....
  18. Found 3 yesterday in an hour walk. Rochester area. Seen 5 bucks carrying on walk too.
  19. The largest typical Kansas buck taken this year was shot by a 9mm Glock. Illegally, but stiil.
  20. I have one spot that I hunt a few times each year that is loaded with bearded hens...I've seen at least one while set up 6 or 7 years running now. Pretty funny to see, actually. Must be genetics in the area.
  21. It's not 100% yet..."they are in the process of rewriting the codebook" per the official...so until it is in print/approved...I'm hoping that the typical slow-moving gov't keeps pace and lets it slip by for a while. If they don't have it done by this season..I'm hunting legally there. They estimated 2-3 months. This is the response I got: The Village of XXXXX is in the process of rewriting our Village Code that will prohibit “Actively hunting wildlife or discharging a firearm, bow or other hunting device on private property within the Village Limits.” This activity was banned previously, but was inadvertently left out of our code book when it was updated in 1999. There was ZERO distinction of gun/archery...so you could gun hunt in that time frame in the village as long as you were legal by all other laws. I might see some issue with a noise ordinance...but that'd have been the only angle the cops/police could use if you followed the law to the T. And, of course, it was never mentioned or made public that they ommission occured...so I bet there are plenty others who would have taken advantage of that opportunity.
  22. Finding out that hunting was allowed in a village for the past 12+ years...and that they are closing the loop hole this year. Had primo huntable small acreage access in that village, too...as in always saying as I passed by..."I wish I could hunt in the village there since the deer are in there like flies on poop." Dum-dum village personnel left the act out of the village code last time is was updated in 1999....and now they are fixing it. It was in there before the update in 1999...they simply forgot to put it back in.
