Woolrich Coat and pants...FREE
genesee_mohican replied to Pygmy's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
I'm interested, sending you a pm. -
On state and private land I have a lot of stand site prep work to do, and am scouting some new land I now have access too. Time spent working on stands locations and scouting right now is time well spent. Walking around the last few days on state land I'm amazed at how last falls buck sign pops out at you with all vegetation gone. Scrapes, rub lines, trails and the big picture of last falls rutting activity is never more eye opening that right now, and finding a shed or two is another reward and piece to the puzzle. This is one of my favorite times of the year to be in the 'deer woods' so I try to get out there as much as possible. A time where one can explore bedding areas or clear out shooting lanes without worrying about disturbing deer like you would in the fall. I'm always pushing myself to find better stand locations and I want to have a few spots that I can really look forward to spending some at come October.

Deer Poaching last night
genesee_mohican replied to HectorBuckBuster's topic in Hunting Related Pictures
Just an observation and not trying to give anyone a hard time: 2-3 shots in the shoulder? At night? Pretty good shooting on the 2nd and 3rd shots. Maybe it was froze by the light and didn't move after the first shot? Sad and odd story. -
Mid 60's tomorrow.. the 2nd, and no crowd so I'll wait a day.

Muck woody sport for the farmlands but if I'm hunting steeper terrain and walking more distance on state land I'd rather have my Rocky Lynx for the traction and ankle support.

Allen Lake is a nice place to take kids. Easy access and stocked with trout. Although it may be frozen over for another few weeks.

2015 Shed Hunting Thread - Post your finds!
genesee_mohican replied to burmjohn's topic in General Hunting
Finding both sides is a first for me. There is still a lot of snow on the ground but I was searching an over grown brushy field that was mostly bare, when I saw an antler hanging off a shrub. Pretty obvious like waving a flag "here I am !". As I got to the shed I saw the other side laying there on the ground right next to it. I also found a spike shed in the same area. A lucky day. -
I purchased this camera back in Dec 2014 after reading a topic on "Best Trail Camera Value ". Phade posted a link of this camera on sale at Gander Mt for around $80 bucks and me being a trail cam fan it only made sense to buy at least one. -I initially had it set up behind my house for two weeks. Being the end of deer season the only deer pictures were during the night. -Nighttime pictures are fair, the main issue is with some blur on moving subjects (as seen in first photo). -The cam was set out again on Feb 1st and I had more daytime photos so it was a better test. -From Feb 1st to March 24th it captured 120 pictures. -The battery still shows good life and the camera was taking pictures of deer as I approached the camera site today 3/24 (seen in last photo). -The daytime photo quality is very good and it freezes moving animals with no blur. - I have no way of knowing how long this camera will perform but so far it's done well for the money. Best 20ft Ladder Stand?
genesee_mohican replied to NYBuckHunter27's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Ditto, and 95% of the time my stand is in a tree with a lot of branches for concealment from deer and people. 20' to 25', occasionally a bit higher. Rivers Edge makes a very good tree stand. -
Awesome pics! I agree w Doc on the last one. I'd blow that up and frame it. That is some view from your front yard over looking the area and no houses.

I agree with the chart but would add the .257 Roberts to the light kickers.

Dead Trail Cam value qu
genesee_mohican replied to genesee_mohican's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
I like the decoy/bait idea. I had one stolen for the first time last year and it was quite the disappointment. -
I was wonder if there's any value in a trail cam that died and is just collecting dust on the shelf? I know some people rebuild them or make their own. The camera inside and the housing have to be worth something to someone.

Just pulled one of my cameras today.
genesee_mohican replied to CFHunter's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
It's difficult to get a full body, clear shot of one of those fast moving fishers without a bait pile. I've yet to get a good clear pic. -
Yes, some will carry antlers longer than others. I once saw a 4pt the first week of May and have seen some real beauties with full racks in late March.

It's good to see some trail cam pictures this morning. Sounds like you put the camera to the test and it passed! I have a couple Moultrie M80 cams out since mid Jan and am looking forward to checking them soon.

Pulled my 2 cameras from Walworth
genesee_mohican replied to fasteddie's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Yes, I started seeing them show up last winter along with fishers. Once I got the first bobcat picture I started targeting them with my trail cameras which was a lot of fun and I learned a lot.
