  1. Well done! Those are some nice mounts, I find my self having a little cat mount envy.
  2. That's an awesome thing to witness and you captured the moment like a pro. Thanks for sharing! The camera sure freezes the subject with great clarity.
  3. I've had a few our since early June and will be adding more soon. I had a few come missing last year so I'm changing tactics and a tad less enthused about it.
  4. I'll soon be heading to Rollin's Pond Campground in the ADK's for 10 days of tent camping, hiking, canoeing and lots of fishing. My daughter and I have been going there every summer for 15 years.
  5. Congrats to you all, I know it isn't easy but we'd all like to see you here into a ripe old age!
  6. Nice picture. I just started getting my camera's back out, so it will be a few weeks till I check them. Just 3 mos till archery season opens!
  7. The 2nd guy had a fresh shave and looked to be in decent shape. Maybe he was sleeping away some of the days in one of the many remote cabins in the area?
  8. I've been tent camping in the ADK's for many years. Some of my favorite places are Rollin's Pond State campground , Forked Lake State campground, (sites accessible by water only). And Buck Pond Campground, which has 2 island sites. I'll be heading up again in a few weeks.
  9. I go with the National. Great food and a lot more choices on the menu. Now, if the weather is nice and you want to eat outside by the water, I'd recommend the Beach Comber on Conesus Lake. Just another 20 mins to the east and a neat place to visit in the summer.
  10. Congrats on the new place. I pass through Tupper Lake every summer and camp nearby. It's a beautiful area, hard to beat.
  11. D works just fine. I hope they don't change it.
  12. Answer: 7 Gobblers together could mean several things. If I can come along on your next hunt I would be able to give a better answer to this dilemma. j/k Yes, they will gather in flocks. The flock may break up during the day only to reform again later on. Toms may roost in the same area, but they may disperse as they seek out roaming hens. Each day can be different. Your lucky to have such a nice flock to hunt. Good luck, hope you get a nice one!
  13. Mine fit really well. I saw them on sale at Cablea's, then went to Tractor Supply and tried a bunch on. I was surprised to find that I needed to get a pair 2 sizes smaller that what I'd buy for a leather boot. I use them for stream fishing, spring time scouting n turkey hunting.
  14. We had mandatory OT last fall which started the first week of October of all times. There went any chance to hunt the afternoons. I do save a week of vacation for archery and a few days for gun and black powder, plus I can hunt just about every weekend day so I feel fortunate. My only regret when it comes to employment is that I didn't have the foresight to get a civil service job back when I was young like some of my friends did. They are retiring in their mid-50's on a state pension and full benefits.
  15. Great use of the natural resources you have on your land. You certainly could get the deer funneled to a pinch point and walking by a tree making it a sure honey hole. I like it.
  16. http://www.infowars.com/dhs-to-purchase-62-million-rounds-of-ar-15-ammo/ A posting on FedBizOpps.gov this week reveals that the DHS is looking to contract with a company to provide 12.6 million rounds of .223 Remington ammunition per year for a period of five years – totaling 62.5 million bullets. Click the link to read the entire story. At the end it says.... Furthermore, U.S. soldiers were shooting around 5.5 million rounds of ammunition per month during the war in Iraq, or 66 million rounds annually. Using that figure, the feds have stockpiled enough ammo over the past two years to fight a 32-year war.
  17. It seems to me the last few years I've heard a lot of gobbling going on the last half of April. I heard a bunch of birds out back this am.
  18. I saw some large flocks in Jan and Feb and I saw 3 toms all fanned out this past weekend but have yet to hear a gobble. They seem to survive the harshest of winters so I'm sure there are some decent numbers out there.
  19. I hunt because my father started taking me when I was at a very young age. He'd take me everywhere fishing, small game and deer hunting and I fell in love with the woods fields and streams, the deer and game animals. So, I became an outdoors man and have been that way since I can remember. Simply put, I just love being out there and it's great exercise too which I enjoy. I chose to live out in the country and I have loads of hunting and fishing opportunities close by and I get out there as much as I can, even in the off season so I can scout or just explore. I like to have a deer or two in the freezer for my table fare so taking at least one deer a year is important, it's part of the big picture, maybe a primal part that pushes me and success in a deer season is a celebration for sure. I like the challenge of being up against game animals, whether it's a grouse bursting out of a thicket, trying to figure out a big tom I've been after, or pursuing a smart buck and the does with year round scouting and hard hunting I just love being out there. It's just in my blood, a part of life...That's it. Now I'm getting ready to head outside to do some scouting for deer and turkey on what should be a long and enjoyable hike. GM
  20. Here is a link to the NYS DEC page which shows fishing access, including maps: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/44879.html I like to print a map out and take it with me when heading off to a trout stream. I helps to study them a bit too and use google maps to find the exact location, which was mentioned earlier.
  21. Same here, but given that he was re-elected just months after the Safe Act move, I have no reason to believe he'll ever be dethroned.
  22. Were they taken with egg sacs or night crawlers?
  23. East coy too muddy but coming down. Same for Spring water creek in Hemlock. I was there yesterday, it's fish-able but should be better in a day or two unless we get a lot of rain.
