  1. If your cloths and self reek of odor when you go to your stand, you will be more easily detected by a deer's nose and leave a lot more scent behind at your stand site tipping off more deer your long gone. There are simple and inexpensive ways to decrease the amount of scent you put off while in the woods making you less detectable and less alarming to a deer's nose. Of course playing the wind is a no brain-er but being less alarming to deer that come in downwind or as you walk to and from your stand can't hurt, so here are some simple things I do. 1) Wash all cloths with ALL free and clear laundry detergent. It's no more expensive than any of them and found in most stores. 2) Shower with Scent Away soap/shampoo, leaves no odor and also very inexpensive. 3) Brush teeth with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide (recommended by my dentist as well). 4) Store all hunting gear where they won't pick up strong odors. 5) Avoid taking in food that might have a lot of odor. 6) spray boots, pack, and other gear with a scent eliminating spray. Hope this helps and good luck featherbeard
  2. The colder temps should have the deer moving. I'm gonna try to find the lee side of a woods or spot protected from the wind, the deer may be seeking out those places too.
  3. It was swirling a lot this past Wed in 8M. If I had half a brain I would have waited a bit before getting to my stand as the wind didn't make up it's mind till mid morning. But looks like it will be blowing steady from the WNW the next few days.
  4. When NOVEMBER arrives, I want to be in the woods every day!!!! I take a week off for bow and another for gun but it never seems like enough time off from work.
  5. I've already sat dark till dark 4 days, with an hour walk in and out. I have to be closing in on too many hrs already.
  6. I've done all 4, and now I have one of the lock boxes that I bolt to a tree with lags. I hiked a mile in to get the camera one morning and forgot my sockets. I got some exercise going back out and making the trip in again.
  7. I saw a nice buck chasing a doe last Saturday. I sat all day yesterday and saw one doe and a 4pt, no chasing and pretty quiet where I was.
  8. That will dampen one's spirits quickly. I took Monday off from work and headed down to one of my stands close to the river. Set up with high hopes as it starts to get light my mood sours as I see another hunter 80 yards away. I've been hunting that spot a few years now but it's time to relocate again.
  9. Grunt tubes, the can, rattling, snort wheeze...they all work at times and a lot of bucks have been called and taken due to the call. Are you saying all calls are just a gimick and all the hunt shows where they have success calling in a buck with a call are faked??? And do you have any evidence to back this up?
  10. I've had good success with grunt tubes after seeing a buck and calling them in. No luck with the can and haven't tried the snort wheeze although they sure do work on some of the hunting shows.
  11. Wow! Nice Deer!!! Congrats, has to feel good.
  12. Nice buck DanielT, congrats!!1 I had a nice buck chasing does come by yesterday at 1pm, then again at 2;30pm. First at 40 yards, then headed up toward my shooting lane at 15 but veered off behind bushes at 20 yards where I had no shot. Close but so so far from getting a shot at a nice buck in the park........again. I'll keep trying.
  13. Wow, no waiting out in the cold for days on end, lol. Great deer and congrats!
  14. Unreal bunch of Booner's there! I wonder where they drop the sheds?
  15. Hard to understand why someone would shoot the deer and just leave it there.
  16. That's a beauty 10 point and a great story. I'm glad your Dad was there to share it with you!
  17. It is looking to be one of the best weekends. Bring your hand warmers and sit tight!
  18. I sat all day yesterday ( I guess I picked the wrong day to take off from work). I saw two spikes early but that was it.
  19. Anyone have luck in the park yet? I saw a decent buck hounding a doe last Fri. Heading there tomorrow for an all day sit.
  20. You left your stand at 8:51am? Bummer, but they are roaming that area so you have a good chance of getting a crack at them. Looks like a great set up.
  21. I can think of more rare causes of death for deer: Old age, buck battles gone bad, environmental accidents like lightning strikes. In captivity they live 6-14 years. It's just the way it is.
  22. And man there are some dandy bucks on there!!!
  23. I hope you heal quickly and all is well with your health Doc. Time flies and before you know it you'll be out there again.
