Expensive as all get out but you'll never buy a better pair of rubbers than those made by Le Chameau.

That there is a fine bird and one happy hunter. Congratulations.

True enough. And I won't see a red cent of what I've paid in. So...
-
I resent that last bit. And you can thank me for your social security payment later.

I work two part time civil service jobs to make full time money. No benefits, no retirement, no paid leave of any kind and no paid holidays. Welcome to the new way of the future, doing more with less and all that happy monkey paw. That being the case, piss on work. I take two unpaid weeks in October for an annual cast and blast and any other day I damn well please. I agree w/ Belo, you decide your "level" based on what's important to you. The wife and I own our house and vehicles outright and have five years left on 1 student loan. No cable, no iPhone, no new fancy cars so we live comfortably on what little we make. It's all about what you value, and my time is worth more than the money I'm paid.

It's true. All liberals imbibe copious amounts of illicit drugs daily. Breakfast: Wake and Bake Lunch: Drop acid (that's what that song "Afternoon Delight" was all about man!) Dinner: 3 lines of coke with a gallon of Thunderbird to take the edge off and finally a good ole bottle of Nyquil to put 'em down It's a wonder anyone who votes Democrat is even alive.

Though I had forgotten for some time, hunting is an essential part of our humanity. Not to go all Leaves of Grass here, but we can learn a lot of great importance from the hunt; humility, patience, empathy and compassion (contradictory but true), and, best of all, how to shut the hell up and just be. Oh yeah, and the animals we hunt have a tendency to be tasty.

Ok. So, I'd say that about settles it. Yikes.

Camp?

Thanks Lawdwaz. That was dope.

How involved are you with new hunter recruitment?
scolopaxmatt replied to wooly's topic in General Hunting
I'm of the mind that hunter retention is just as important as recruitment. Taking a friend who hasn't gotten out in years past (wife, kids, job, house etc.) and reacquainting him with the pursuit counts I would think. He/she may have previously been a hunter but for all practical purposes wasn't for whatever reason. Or a stranger for that matter. Basically you guys are all strangers to me, but I wouldn't think twice about offering company on a bird hunt nor accepting same offer. I also take recruitment to mean persuading non hunters that what we do is not simply murder. When I run into hikers, joggers, dog walkers and the like I make an effort to be friendly. I keep my action visibly open (broken as it were) and wave. I've recommended wearing some blaze orange or other bright color and steered some away from areas I know are full of traps that could harm their dogs. I've gotten the hairy eyeball a few times, most often from other hunters, but when an interaction seems to end well its a plus for all hunters. We're not the beer swilling bubbas we are sometimes portrayed as, nor are we bloodthirsty murderers taking aim and anything that moves. Proving that point to anyone who will listen, for however long, goes just as far as taking a buddy out on his first hunt in my mind. -

Her (Woerner) district (including my hometown) is a very rural district. Some residents might argue otherwise citing sparkling Saratoga and Glens Falls as examples, but I'd argue that point. Anyways, the college students she was speaking to are drawn mostly from the surrounding small towns and are thankfully at least familiar with hunting if not actively engaged. While running for her seat she supported repeal of the SAFE Act. Since taking office her stance has softened a bit from repeal to revision. No real surprise there. I guess the question is which way will she go from here on out. I commend her seeking input from the electorate. I just hope she listens. -
Nope.

If only it were that simple and easy. It's a long, hard road to surly north country bumpkin.

I for one do not think we as gun owners should be made to keep our firearms under lock and key. Personal responsibility aside, it would be nearly impossible to enforce. -

Guilt mongers. It's called personal responsibility. -

The price of gun safes just went up. http://poststar.com/news/local/assemblywoman-asks-students-about-gun-safety/article_55142a66-cf2d-11e4-b39a-c781cd026d5b.html -
Congratulations. Let's hear if for Region 5.

That about sums it up.

The timing is about right for the early birds returning to their singing grounds. Unfortunately there's an awful lot of snow left. In any case, a cool find. Keep that little fella and roast him.
