I planted 1 year old wildlife pears about 5 years ago that I purchased from Morse Nursery. They really took off and are about 12' feet high now. however have yet to produce any pears. When I contacted Morse they told me that it's because the plants are still juvenile and should produce within the next few years. Stay away from dwarf because the deer will browse what ever it can reach.

I shot a buck who had his nose to the ground last Sunday in Pharsalia.

I have been using a smoker for about 5 years now and in my humble opinion have mastered ribs. Like most I use the 2, 2, 1 method. 2 hours uncovered, followed by 2 hours wrapped in foil, and finally the last hour uncovered with your favorite BBQ sauce. I know a lot preach the 3-2-1 method but because I prefer the St. Louis cut, I believe the 2-2-1 method works better. I have developed the dry rub to my family's specific taste and I add it before cooking. Just remember with ribs it is very important to remove the membrane from the back prior to cooking. There are a ton of easy dry rub recipes that can be found online. It is very addicting and I have smoked briskets, pork shoulders, chicken as well as beef and venison jerky. Enjoy!

Anyone have interest in a brush hog?
BigGuyNY replied to philoshop's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I am also interested depending on location. -
The atmosphere and people are great. I have been there countless times and have always found it to be a good time. Numerous restaurants offer a TG themed dinner. I would go through a website like hotels.com in order to find something that is close to the subway which can bring you right to the parade route. If I can help you as it gets closer, please PM me and I will provide you with any information I can. There is so much to see and do in the city that time of year.

My 6 year old loves to shoot his bow, however I consider it a "toy" and I am looking for recommendations to move him onto the next level. Thanks.

FYI, Walmart marked down their Dunstan Chestnut trees 50%. The are a great addition to any land management project. I bought whatever was left at the Norwich Walmart.

Unfortunately good people get hooked on illicit drugs and its not always because they are looking for a thrill. There are plenty of cases where the person was prescribed pain medication and because of diminished effects after prolonged use the user needed to find something else to ease the pain. I do not condone any type of illegal drug use and all I am pointing out is that there are good people that have become addicted with no other intention then they were looking to ease the pain. Overdose deaths have become an epidemic in NY and someone I know that is directly involved with these types of death told me that we all will be affected by this one way or another.

A buddy of mine sent me article regarding a tagged deer from Staten Island ending up in NJ. NJ wildlife officials euthanized the animal because they feared it may have CWD. I know it is "only" one deer but could they have tested it and released it if it was not infected. http://www.silive.com/news/2017/05/sad_ending_for_staten_island_d.html#incart_2box_silive-homepage-featured

Sika can be hunted on assateague Island in Maryland. No tree stands can be used but ground blinds are allowed I believe. I have been there a few time but never during hunting season. It is a beautiful place, hopefully I can get out there one day to hunt.

The windows use zippers as well as the mesh. You can open as much or as little of the windows you want.

My buddy has this blind and it's really nice. I picked up one because it's only $79 and it's always good to have an extra. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Strategy-Hub-Hunting-Blind-300D-Poly-Oxford/45032573

Felony charges in Caledonia hunting death
BigGuyNY replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in General Chit Chat
Simply put, any death that is not natural or accidental is classified as a homicide. The main reason that he is being charged the way he is, has to do with his culpable mental state, In this case it has been determined not to be intentional so he is not charged with any type of murder as defined in the NYS penal law. They believe that the defendant recklessly caused her death, hence the criminally negligent homicide charge. -
I have an electric smoker and can understand that some frown upon them simply because they are electric. I really enjoy it and have found it quite easy to use. A big pro is that you can set the temperature and not have to worry about it fluctuating too much. I have fooled around with different types of woods (cherry, apple etc.) and the amount that I add which definitely reflects the taste of the finished product. I have mastered ribs and pork shoulder and have tried a few baskets. Whatever you choose have fun experimenting.

I have been wanting to go antelope hunting for a few years and my wife surprised me with the trip as a gift. Of course she did not book anything in fear of it not being what I wanted. I am looking for recommendations for outfitters that others have used in the past. I am centering in on Wyoming as the destination. Any help is appreciated.

I just purchased a new bag that had individual compartments, each of which are sealed in order to keep odor out and prior to packing it, I washed all of my gear in scent free detergent, hung all items out to dry and once dried I sprayed each item with scent killer spray and then let that dry. There are products available that smell like dirt, pine, acorns etc. to pack with your clothing that act as a cover scent. My concern is that these scents will spook deer. Thoughts? https://www.amazon.com/Hunters-Specialties-Fresh-Earth-Wafers/dp/B0000AW001/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1473544110&sr=8-6&keywords=scent+control
