  1. Definitely my most memorable hunt. After I shot him he ran down the hill and across the road into a cornfield. As I was following the blood trail across the road, a lady rode by on a bicycle and said "Are you looking for a deer? There's a dead one right there!" She kinda ruined the excitement of following the blood trail to the deer, but I was just happy to recover my first bow deer. That was 2013 and I haven't shot a deer with a gun since. Maybe next year?
  2. Yea he was my first deer with a bow... on my second hunt of the season. He was good sized but probably only 1.5. Im not good at judging age. This area has great genetics, and nutrition so I think they all “look older”. Most bucks in the area are typical with lots of symmetry. His bases were at weird angles and close together. But it was definitely an odd rack, had some palmation. 5 main points and 2 small ones on the back.
  3. I wouldn't do it until I shot a mature buck with small or broken antlers anyway... at least it would be a combination on 2 deer that I killed. Anyway... sorry Moog... back to skull hookers
  4. But how else would I get a forum-official measurement on the antlers???
  5. I was thinking about mounting the 8 point onto a different deers cape... but I don't want to deal with grief from @Biz-R-OWorld And I can't wait to kill a buck that would warrant contacting @WNY Bowhunter
  6. I have 2 that I regret not mounting... my first and biggest bow bucks.
  7. Looks pretty good... but I think that guy shoulda been a shoulder mount.
  8. This was a practice run to see if I like it. Cut some nice pieces of black walnut this weekend to use permanently.
  9. That diver is worthy of some additional research.
  10. So far Iv had 23 hunts totaling ~55 hours. All bow or crossbow. Looks like I’ll be able to get out 4-5 more times.
  11. We ate Nov 2018 venison last night and today, and with proper handling, aging, packaging, and cooking... I honestly couldn’t tell any difference in taste from fresh venison.
  12. No issues with freezer burn as long as all the air is out... which is easier with ground meat, bulk sausage, and stew meat. It’s harder to get all the air out of sausage links, sausage patties and roasts, so they either get wrapped in plastic wrap and butcher paper, plastic wrap in a ziplock bag, or vacuum sealed. Vacuum sealer is used mostly for sausage or keilbasa that I want to store longer or give away. Today’s deer was #3 which unfortunately might be the last for the season, so I vacuum sealed the backstraps for long-term storage.
  13. Last of the 2018 venison. The Turf got a picture, no time for a pic of the surf (scallops).
  14. Finally got out tonight for the first Dec hunt of the year. Let 2 fat does walk, didn’t see any bucks.
  15. I think I’ve posted these before... he was limping pretty bad in both videos, I assumed he was hit by a car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I punish myself doing euros until I shoot a big enough buck to get mounted
  17. For the brain... I stick a screwdriver in the hole to do a bit of scrambling while its boiling. Then shake it out. Not glamorous, but effective.
  18. Somebody shoot something! Or at least post a beautiful snow-covered picture. I haven’t been able to hunt since Saturday and it’s killing me!
  19. Biz is the local expert on pussy cats
  20. What self respecting redneck doesn't have an old pot and a turkey/fish fryer???
  21. That one on the right is WIDE
